Charmander watched as the small human stepped into the room. He hadn’t ever seen them before, but a lot of small humans came and went and didn’t even stop to greet him.
“Ah, hello!” Professor Oak approached the small human with a smile. “You must be here for your new partner!”
“Yes,” the small human replied. “You said I should come today.”
“I did, didn’t I?” Professor Oak laughed and gestured for the small human to follow him. “Come meet your potential partners.”
The small human followed, but they looked nervous as they approached the table where the pokeballs that new trainers always took were sitting. He didn't like that; the small human shouldn’t be afraid of his sibling or the others who were waiting. Clearly they needed some help.
Charmander took a step toward the small human, leaving his comfortable bed and attracting their attention and Professor Oak’s.
“Oh!” The small human squeaked. “Hi, cutie!”
“Char!” Charmander ran to them, and grabbed their shirt in his claws. “Char, char!”
“Well, I’ll be.” Professor Oak sounded surprised. “Seems like my old Charmander has taken a liking to you.”
“Char!” Charmander agreed. He was ready to take care of this small human, and make sure they weren’t scared of anything ever again.
