Work Text:
The last thing Ena was expecting on a Saturday morning was to wake up. The second last thing Ena was expecting on a Saturday morning was a skinwalker in her bed.
Needless to say, Ena jumps out of the bed quite quickly. The sudden movement aggravates a growing migraine.
Lying on the other side of the bed, disconcertingly close to where she had been, is the spitting image of her best friend-slash-longtime crush. Her pink hair splays out across the pillow, adorably messy, and her upper torso is exposed by the blanket that only half-covers her body. She’s wearing a loose t-shirt which is slipping off her shoulder. Ena blushes furiously and turns her head away.
There are two possibilities:
1) There is a skinwalker in her bed, and she needs to get out, now.
2) Mizuki somehow ended up in her bed last night, and Ena can’t remember how it happened because she was too drunk.
For the sake of her sanity, Ena decides it has to be the first.
The skinwalker stirs. Ena backpedals towards the door. Pink hair lifts off the pillow, and there’s a thump as it flips itself over in the bed.
‘Enanan?’ it asks groggily.
Nope. Nope, nope, nope. She is not dealing with this today. Ena is blushing at a skinwalker’s morning voice. Why is she blushing about a skinwalker’s morning voice. And it looks just like Mizuki, and as the hair falls out of its face and it yawns –
Oh. Ena can’t really deny that it’s Mizuki anymore.
‘Oh my god. Why are you in my room.’
‘Haah? Enanan, you invited me here.’
Ena might die. Really. Mizuki’s voice is a tone deeper and huskier than her normal voice, and Ena might just be imagining that voice whispering forbidden things in her ear. She slaps herself.
‘Uhhh, Enanan?’
Mizuki is getting up from the bed now, which is dangerous. Ena backs up against the door. Mizuki looks confused. There are very unintelligible things spilling out of Ena’s mouth. She probably looks like an idiot. Mizuki is right to be confused.
The t-shirt slips further down Mizuki’s shoulder as she sits up. The bare expanse of her collarbones and her shoulder feels like forbidden territory for Ena’s eyes. She makes eye contact with the floor.
‘I-I d-don’t remember what happened, can y-you fill me in?’ Ena stammers. Idiot. Ena never stammers. Why is she stammering.
Mizuki giggles. Oh god, Ena’s face is about to explode. Even her laugh is tinged with sleep, more mellow and raspy.
‘Enanan really forgot, huh?’ She pats the bed beside her. ‘Come back first.’
She says it with a lilt to her voice, and Ena really needs to stop thinking about Mizuki’s voice. She dares to look up at Mizuki, and it’s a mistake, because she’s looking at Ena with sparkling eyes and a devious smirk, and her shoulder is so smooth. Ena looks down again. Just what happened last night? Just imagining the possibilities sets Ena’s cheeks aflame again. Also, she’s pretty sure that t-shirt is hers. Mizuki is in Ena’s bed, wearing Ena’s clothes, and Ena has no idea what happened to get them here.
Mizuki pats the bed again. Like an obedient dog, Ena walks over and sits down on the edge of the bed, strategically facing away from Mizuki. The strategy lasts about five seconds, because Mizuki draws herself up beside Ena and pivots… onto Ena’s lap.
‘MIZUKI????’
Mizuki leans in next to Ena’s face. For a moment, all Ena can hear is her soft breathing and the erratic beating of her own heart. And then Mizuki is whispering something scandalous into her ear.
‘Want me to help you remember?’
Ena is deceased. Dying. Dead. Mizuki has killed her. She hopes Mizuki derives some satisfaction from seeing her smoking corpse.
Mizuki giggles again. ‘Just kidding, Enanan. You should’ve seen your face!’
She’s grinning as she gets off of Ena’s lap, stretching her arms in a way that makes the hem of the t-shirt ride up, exposing her waist.
‘Don’t worry, I didn’t do anything weird, Enanan.’
Lord have mercy, Ena is about to kneel on the ground and break into prayer.
‘If anything, Enanan was the one doing weird things.’
‘H-HUH?’
Mizuki’s wearing a shit-eating grin now. She prances around the room with her hands behind her back as Ena collects what is left of her self-respect.
‘What do you remember?’ Mizuki sing-songs annoyingly.
‘Just tell me what happened, jeez!’ Ena huffs.
Mizuki doesn’t say anything, but she stops by the corner of the bed and slides in next to Ena again. Ena tries to lean away, but Mizuki keeps closing in, so Ena ends up shuffling until her shoulder hits the headboard, and then she finds herself caged in by Mizuki’s arms. The shit-eating grin has turned predatory.
‘Well, that’s no fun, is it?’ Mizuki drawls. A finger comes up to Ena’s chin, lifting it so that Ena is forced to meet her eyes. ‘Enanan, you’re so cute when you blush.’
‘Wh-wha- M-Mizuki???’
Ena is floundering. Curse Mizuki. Ena never flounders.
And then she stills. Involuntarily. It’s out of shock. Because Mizuki presses a kiss to her cheek. A kiss. What. Ena’s brain is doing cartwheels and backflips. Probably off a roof. Her brain has completely vacated her skull. The headache is no longer. Her mouth opens and closes like that of a fish out of water. It’s very unattractive.
‘That’s payback,’ Mizuki laughs. She’s also sporting a blush now, and a triumphant grin. Her wiggling eyebrows snap Ena back to reality.
‘MIZUKI! WHAT? EXPLAIN???’
‘Do you really remember nothing?’ Mizuki asks. Her face falls a bit.
Ena manages to form a coherent thought for a second. ‘Uh, I remember that we… went to a bar, and then…’ Her face reddens impossibly further. ‘We did some shots. Nothing else.’
Nope, nothing else. She’s sure that whatever image she just conjured in her head was just a perverted dream she had. There’s no way she would do that in real life.
‘Oh…’ Mizuki breathes. And then the shit-eating grin is back on her face. Ena represses the urge to punch her.
‘Then you don’t remember pinning me against a wall and kissing me? Or telling me you’ve been in love with me for years? Or trying to-‘
Ena slaps a hand over Mizuki’s mouth.
‘You’re kidding me, right?’ Ena is wide-eyed, pleading. Her life is over. She should just keel over and die already, because if what Mizuki says is true, then this is SO embarrassing. And it still doesn’t explain how Mizuki ended up in Ena’s room, wearing Ena’s clothes, with – wait, is that a HICKEY ON HER NECK WHAT?? Ena looks closer, subtly. Mizuki definitely notices, because she makes a weird choked sound that sounds like a repressed laugh. Upon closer inspection, there’s also a bruise on Mizuki’s collarbone. And her shoulder. Oh god.
Ena buries her face in her hands.
‘Oh my god, Mizuki. I am so sorry. Please forget everything. Forget I ever existed. I am but a speck of dust in the air.’
‘Enanan,’ Mizuki says softly. ‘In case you forgot this too, I said I love you back.’
.
..
… What.
‘Mizuki. Are you being serious?’
There’s a pleading look in Ena’s eyes. If Mizuki is just messing with her, she might kill someone for real. But then Mizuki is taking her hands off the headboard and reaching for Ena’s hands. Ena watches in slow motion as Mizuki lifts one of her hands to her lips and places a lingering kiss on it.
‘Yeah, I love you, Enanan.’
Wow. That’s… Wow. Ena doesn’t know what to say. Theoretically in this situation she should probably say something like ‘I love you too’, but somehow that feels embarrassing to say out loud. Even though she’s apparently already said it out loud. Oh god, she confessed to her crush while drunk. That might be just about the most mortifying thing someone can do.
‘Oh, and Ena, seriously, don’t worry. Nothing, uh, nothing weird happened between us. You just tried to kiss me, and then you tried to kiss some.. uh, other places, and you were too drunk so I took you home, and you kind of… wouldn’t let go of me, so I had to get into bed with you.’
Ena stares at her hands. What has she done. Oh god.
‘Haha, Enanan is really embarrassed, huh? Don’t worry, it was really cute seeing drunk Enanan~’
‘Mizuki, I love you but please for the love of god shut up.’
