Work Text:

It’s been a while since Shu and Mika went on a date, which was expected, considering how busy they were. They started talking about finding the time to go to one.

They talked for a while, bringing up ideas and deciding which ones seemed better.

And eventually, they figured it out.

Shu and Mika had reached the area for their date. They decided to go ice-skating. They stood in line to get ice skaters.

After they were done, they sat down somewhere to put the shoes on.

Shu, who had done this many times before, easily put them on then turned Mika’s attention to him.

“Kagehira, I would like to remind you a few things before we get in. As you know– ice skates, the metal blades, can be dangerous. I abhor just the mere thought of those beautiful hands of yours getting injured in the slightest! So, it is necessary to remember that if you fall, you must close your hands into a fist in case of other skaters skating onto your hand. Apart from that, take these gloves.” Shu said as he gave Mika the gloves.

Mika nodded and happily put the gloves on after he was done with the ice skaters.

Mika was wearing a thick coat with a sweater underneath. He had thick pants as well, which he wore instead of his first option.

The first option being…ahem…shorts.

(Two hours ago)

“Oshi-san! I’m done dressing up!” Mika said as he happily walked over to Shu.

“Oh, great-” Shu said as he turned around and looked at Mika, though he quickly cut himself off. “What?! Non! Are you going on a walk?! Kagehira, you are going to be in an ice rink. You're gonna freeze to death before even moving a picometer!” Shu scolded, annoyance practically forming his face.

“Ngaaah, ‘m sorry, Oshi-san!!! I’ll be fine though! The cold is nothin’ for me!” He smiled.

“You dunce! How could you be so idiotic? Even if you don't mind the temperature, people scrape the ice with the metal of the ice skaters all day! What if you fell and scraped your beautiful shins, or knees, or both!” He said with an expression full of perturbation.

“Whaaat–? Ehehe…! You think ‘m pretty?” Mika said as his face formed a dumb grin, featuring a blush on his cheeks.

“Listen to me for once, will you? Or you’ll get scoldings instead of compliments

(Present)

So, there Mika was, getting into the ice rink with his boyfriend.

As shu got in the rink, he felt excitement growing in his heart, going up his throat into a happy hum. He looked over at Mika who was standing near the edge of the rink, holding onto the railing. Shu, who assumed he just wanted to get used to the cold for a few seconds, simply called him over, hoping the act of skating would heat him up.

Mika nodded from afar, then pushed himself from the railing; that's when it hit Shu.

Mika’s feet were parallel to each other.

Shu knew- no, every person who learned how to ice skate knows that standing like that will lead to absolute disaster.

Shu quickly skated towards him, as he noticed Mika falling forward. However, Shu caught him, getting a little wobbly himself as he helped Mika stand up straight.

“I thought you knew how to ice skate…? You never brought up not knowing how to when we talked about this!” Shu was baffled at Mika’s uncommunicative ways, despite talking 90% of his days. “Well, don’t worry, Kagehira. I’ll teach you.”

Shu held both of Mika’s hands as he guided him through the rink. Mika, however, was still feeling nervous. His body, mainly his legs, were wobbly.

Occasionally, Mika would stumble, and Shu would be there to help him regain his composure.

“Kagehira, you're doing good. Calm down and focus on your legs. I’ll be here to catch you if you fall.” He smiled at Mika.

As they were about to make a turn, Miku felt balance make himself lose control of his body and fall. Thanks to his instincts, he held onto the closest thing to him; Shu.

Mika held onto Shu’s shoulder as he tried to balance himself. However, Shu was caught off guard, the sudden grip on his shoulders making him stumble. Mika’s panicked grip on his shoulders didn't do him any favors either. Mika’s wobbleness quickly passed onto Shu.

“Kagehira-!!!” Shu yelled.  They continued trying to keep standing before Shu’s feet accidentally skated forward as his upper body stayed where it was (due to Mika holding him), which caused him to fall back.

Mika, who’s support just collapsed, fell along and landed on Shu, with his head being above Shu's shoulder, which resulted in his jaw getting scraped slightly by the already-scraped ice.

Mika looked at Shu, who seemed quite upset at the ordeal. Mika smiled and spoke up. “Gaah… No plane an’ we still collapsed, huh? Ehehe!”

Shu huffed as he replied. “Wha- why on earth is that your first thought, Kagehira?! Is this really the time to become a comedian?”

“Woaah!! Ya actually look real pretty up close, ya know?” Mika said with some blush growing on his face.

“Of course I do, you numbskull. Also, I very clearly asked you why you said that, don’t ignore my question and go on how pretty I am. Work on your manners, Kagehira! And get off me so I can get up-” Shu spoke, his voice filled with irritation. However, he cut himself off as his gaze shifted to Mika’s hands.

Mika's hands were open, despite Shu saying how much he abhorred the thought of Mika’s hand being injured. Mika’s fingers were spread out over the ice.

“Kagehira! What did I tell you about keeping your hand in a fist? Didn't I tell you how much I abhor the thought the mere thought of-”

“What’s abhor???”

“First of all, do not interrupt me, or anyone! Manners. Second of all, could you not figure out the word or the meaning of the sentence at all?” Shu asked.

Mika shook his head. “Nahh, I didn’ understand the sentence, ya seemed really excited ta go ice-skatin’, so I figured I’ll jus’ be fine.”

Shu sighed in annoyance. Rather than getting up themselves, one of the staff, helping people around in the rink, helped them get up. Shu thanked them, his slight embarrassment getting (easily) overshadowed by gratitude. As they left, Shu turned to look at Mika, then his eyes landed on it.

The scrape on Mika’s jaw.

Honestly, it was barely there. It was the smallest, slightest scrape Mika ever had, he didn’t even feel it, but it was there, and that was enough to get Shu’s attention.

Shu remembers every detail of Mika, from the tips of his fingers to the ends of his feet. So a small, almost-invisible scrape is immediately detected, to put it dramatically.

“Ah, Kagehira! Are you okay? So sad a fall had to alter your beauty.” Shu said, gently holding Mika’s jaw.

Mika felt his face heat up from the touch and the compliment. If his smile wasn't already big, it widened as he nodded. “Don’ worry, ‘m good!”

“You imbecile… Physical contact is an everyday thing between us, let alone compliments.” Shu replied.

“Yeah but I’m the one who initiates cuddling the most!” Mika replied. His body moved forward a bit as he said that which reminded him he was on ice, making him feel like he was losing his balance, which resulted in him holding onto Shu’s shoulders. Shu noticed the slight panic in Mika’s actions and held Mika by his waist to help him.

But in all honesty, that just ended up in a bit of an awkward situation.

Back to the topic; it really was true that Mika was the one who usually initiated the act of cuddling. Physical affection wasn't something he was too fond of, but Mika’s gestures always managed to make his heart flutter.

They continued skating through the rink, Mika often stumbling. Shu noticed a big improvement when Mika got over his nervousness, forming the realization that Mika had troubles because of his wobbliness.

Eventually, it was time to leave the ice rink. They changed back to their shoes. Mika tapped on Shu’s shoulder.

“Oshi-san, today was really fun with ya! We should go ice skatin’ more often, especially with how much fun ya seemed to have!” Mika smiled.

Shu nodded, “you're right, Kagehira. We really should.”

The day was fun. They enjoyed ice skating, but more importantly, being in the company of each other.
