Work Text:

It was dark and lonely in this digital space Cassidy had been confined in. She has been stuck here for around five years ever since Ultimate Custom Night had been disrupted and William's whereabouts were unknown. And it was full of peril! Vicious Chasers, Bats, and Spiders as she called them infested this place and she had no way to fight them. All she could do was run and hide from them.

Cassidy: Don't you guys ever take a break?! Leave me alone!

Dark Bat: AHAHAHA! You Insignificant pest! We'll never stop!

Dark Spider: WE are retribution for YOUR misdeeds against our father!

Dark Chaser: And now, we're going to catch you again! And we won't let you escape this time! Be ready little one. This is going to hurt a lot!

For all this time she had been here, these and many more creatures like them had been attacking her without end. She learned quickly that she could only run and hide from them. Sometimes she was able to evade them. Sometimes she couldn't. And when they caught her, well, it was never pretty... They would mock, stab, beat, and maul her beyond anything any normal person should withstand. Many times, they would turn it into a game to see who could make her scream the loudest. But this time, it was different. She noticed recently that they were even more relentless, aggressive, and brutal than before. She didn't know what they had in store for her if they caught her, but she didn't want to find out.

Cassidy: (Huff, huff) I can't let them get me! I have to get away! I have to- No. NO! NO! NO! NO! WHY NOW!?

Her luck had taken a turn for the worse. She ran into a dead end. And for fate to just spite her even more, she noticed there were more of them. At least two dozen of these monsters have been trailing her this time. She had nowhere to go. Nowhere to hide. She was truly helpless. It feels as if it were that cursed day in 1985 all over again.

Dark Chaser: Come on everyone our game has gone on for long enough! "Glitchtrap" wants her brought to him. To be trapped for good this time!

Glitchtrap. It was a name she has been hearing more and more. First it was just whispers, then in their dialog, and then they speak of him as some god. She didn't know what it was but she had a terrible sickening feeling about it being related to, HIM. Or worse yet, he came back yet again.

Cassidy: St-stop! St-st-stay back! PLEASE STAY AWAY! SOMEONE! ANYONE! NESSA HELP!

She sometimes was able to see a young lady with blonde hair and green eyes trapped in one of the rooms. She came to know her name. Vanessa. But every time she tried to save her or if she spent too long there, they'd find her and torture her. And probably Vanessa too. She used to be able to spend around 20 minutes with her just trying to save her. Then just talking when she realized she couldn't. But as the shadows started to catch on, the time she could spend without getting caught became shorter and shorter until it was impossible to get near that room. Tears start to trickle down the poor girl's face. Oh how she wished that she had just listened to Old Man Consequences then. Then none of this would have happened. How she wished for someone to just take her from this horrible place and put her in a place of rest Cassidy had now wished she took up. But nobody came. Why would they? There was no one here but her and these demons. She was tired and couldn't run anymore and she learned long ago fighting wasn't an option. With these thoughts flooding in her mind, she began to close her eyes and cry. She hadn't cried in so many years but she couldn't hold it in any longer and those monsters of agony and code noticed.

Dark Spider: Aww she's crying. Our father's tormentor is crying! How cute.

Dark Bat: Ha ha! Nowhere to go this time eh buttercup? That's too bad! It's time for us to have some fun!

Dark Chaser: "You will not be spared! You will not be saved!" Don't you realize, you're as much as a murderer as he is. This is what YOU deserve! Now this is the end of the line for you PEST! THIS IS YOUR HELL CASSIDY BROOKS! Suffer now and forevermore!

But just as they were about to close in, a flash of golden light started to fill the room. It started very fairly but grew to be overwhelming for these creatures. A grey figure with a terrifyingly unrecognizable face and a amber righteous fury in its eyes started to materialize. Someone else had just arrived and they didn't like it.

???: Get out...

Dark Chaser: What? What is this? Who dares interrupt our playti-

[SLASH]

The lead chaser was vanquished in a single stroke of the hand and 15 other dark creatures followed in short order under a flurry of punches, kicks, chops, and bites to their heads. Their corrupted and agonizing screams started to fill the corridor.

???: 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗧!

And as the last of the shadows who dared try to fight was crushed between its small hands the remaining beast still alive knew they would be wise to heed its warning.

Surviving Dark Bat: We need to get out of here!

Surviving Dark Spider: Retreat! Retreat!

She couldn't believe it. They finally left. But she didn't know what caused them to leave. But she saw it. Someone the couldn't recognize due to her fatigue and fear. But it scared her all the same.

Cassidy: (Pant pant) I don't know what you are but get away from me! D-don't come any further.

But it came closer and closer.

Cassidy: I'm warning you! GO AWAY!

But it just kept walking closer until it was around two feet in front of her.

Cassidy: NOOO DON'T TOUCH ME!

She closes her eyes expecting the worst but the worst never came. She felt a soft warm hand on the cheek of her face, drying her tears away. She opened her eyes to see it up close. What she saw truly shocked her.

???: Cass, don't you remember your old friend? It's me.

Cassidy: E-Evan. It is you. You came back. You. Came. B-back...

Her vision was getting blurry and she was too tired to stand. The last thing she could see was Evan running to catch her in his arms before she collapsed and her vision went dark.

...

Five days later when she finally came to, Cassidy had found herself shadowed by her best friend Evan. By the looks of it, he had been diligently at her side for days on end. And concern turned to joy when she finally awoke.

Evan: You're awake. YOU'RE AWAKE! I've been waiting so long Cass! How are you feeling?

Cassidy: I-I don't know. This is so strange. Where are we Evan?

The next thing she noticed was an array of food. It looked so nice and delicious. She hasn't eaten in decades so the thought of eating something was so mesmerizing to her. But by the food, she saw something she thought she'd never see again. It was Old Man Consequences.

OMC: It has been a while, Cassidy. We are in one of the safe locations in this darkened castle. Those dark creatures of agony cannot attack you here. And none have followed you here.

Evan: Nothing that survived anyway. I made sure of that...

Cassidy: Old Man Consequences! I-I'm sorry! I should have listened to you! Please forgive-

OMC: You should eat what is offered to you. You need to replenish your strength. Get up and partake. We shall meet again soon...

And in a small flash of red, he disappeared into thin air.

Evan: He's a strange guy. Anyway, come on! I brought all this food for us to eat! Pizza, fries, sandwiches, cake, juice and so many other fruits! It's all from paradise Cass. Believe me. It's all really good! Get up and take some! Actually, let me help you!

Cassidy: Evan, you don't have to- Woah!

But before she could protest, her eager companion swiftly got her from the ground and lead her by the hand towards the food. The first thing she felt was, how cold the floor was. That's when she noticed that she wasn't wearing her boots. She was completely without footwear. And that's when she noticed that Evan was also barefoot was well. She was so puzzled about that.

Cassidy: Hey Evan I have to ask. Where are our shoes? I don't understand this.

Evan: Oh. Old Man Consequences said that the best way to get you to rest properly was to get those boots off while you rested and since I was here for a while, I wanted to relax too. Don't worry, our shoes and socks are over there but we won't need them for a bit. For now, we should just relax and eat!

She took a look to her side to see her black boots and Evan's shoes side-by-side with his socks neatly tucked inside his shoes and her socks slightly visible inside and hanging out of her boots. Yellow knee-highs. It's been so long. She had forgotten that her socks were even yellow or that she even had them for that matter. But it was just a passing though compared to the food and her friend dragging her to it.

Cassidy: I guess that makes sense. I guess we can sit here for a bit.

Evan: Let's dig in! I have so much to talk about! And I think you do too.

The duo then sat and ate. As Cassidy was eating, she was absolutely overwhelmed with the sensation of eating. It's been around 50 years since she ate anything. The taste was amazing, and the feeling of just putting food in her mouth and just feeling the food felt like a form of heaven to her. She could barely control herself. All while Evan ate like a little gentleman. With taking small neat bites of his food and deliberate taps to his mouth with a napkin. And then Cassidy was curious. She had a few questions for Evan.

Cassidy: So, how were you? You seem so much happier now. Where did you go?

If there was one thing Cassidy noticed about her old friend was that he looked so much happier than before. He didn't have perpetual tears on his face, he wasn't broken or afraid on anything. He was so cheerful and bubbly. It felt like how it used to be when they were alive. How it was always supposed to be. Until the dark days... It kind of filled her ghosty heart with a little joy.

Evan: Oh me? I was in the flipside Cass. And not the place with Animatronica but the real flipside. What they call paradise. When we had our happiness days, we knew who we were. And when we knew who we were, we were freed. all of our friends are there.

Cassidy: Paradise? Is that where we go to rest? What is it like? Is it, nice.

Evan: Nice? Oh Cassie, you don't know the half of it. It's like, the most beautiful version of earth you can think of! The air is so pure, the sky is so blue and the stars at night are so shiny, and the sun is so bright! The ground is softer than the softest pillow! I can't help but run on it without my shoes. And I almost never did that when I was alive. It's a place of great peace and joy! And so many passions. Susie always wanted to be a vet but since nothing gets sick, she grooms animals. So many kinds of animals. Both extinct and still on earth. Gabriel started taking up flying a plane. Jeremy began a band with all of us. Fritz took up sailing like the captain he was always meant to be. His eye even healed but he wore his eye patch for so long, you almost never see him with out it. Charlie and Elizabeth spend time with their dad and moms. They even adopted a pet bear! And I love to write poems and walk across the Forest of Eternity. People think that going to rest after you die is a great boredom or even nothingness but it's so much more than that. You'd love it there! I felt truly free Cassidy! All my fears and sadness were all gone. Nothing can hurt us anymore. Many of our parents are also there too! Except for dad of course... Each of our families have there own houses but we kids have our own little place too. When I didn't see you or Andy, I was confused. I know you two didn't fall into the abyss because you both still had a place and a home in paradise. I knew it wasn't the great beyond because you have to spend some time there first. So I knew you guys were somewhere else. So I checked the great prison. That's where I met the old wizard. He helped me find you.

Cassidy: You were looking for me?

Evan: We were all looking for you Cass. That's what friends do. I wanted you to be happy with the rest of us.

Cassidy: I must have had you and everyone worried sick. I'm such a horrible friend! I don't deserve you!

Evan: That doesn't matter. I'm here now. And I'll always be here for you. Now that I told you about me, what was it like for you?

Cassidy: It's hard to explain. Get ready. It's going to be a lot.

Cassidy then explained her situation to Evan. How she and Andrew had created Ultimate Custom Night to punish William. How it kept his form and consciousness between life and death and how it eventually fell apart. She felt that he could have escaped somehow and that her brother went missing again. And how she was trapped here for so many years.

Cassidy: And that's how it all happened Ev. I've been stuck here for so long. I thought I'd be attacked by those things forever. I thought I'd Never see you guys again.

Evan: So that what happened. Well, we got to stop this!

Cassidy: But how?

Evan: Don't worry, you got me! Didn't you see me take those things out? I'll tell you how on the way. Come on! Put your boots and socks back on and deal with this!

Cassidy: R-right!

As they both get ready to make their way out of the saferoom into the dark corridors, Cassidy thought to herself that she might finally have a chance to fight back and stop this evil once and for all and how she didn't have to do it alone anymore. As they trekked throughout the darkened castle, they did come across a couple of enemies but not only did Evan make work of them, he taught her how to fight them off. It wasn't perfect but she was no longer defenseless. She started to slowly gain a bit of her confidence back. She could now defend herself.

Cassidy: Thank you for joining me Evan.

Evan: No problem Cass! So we're here to stop this "glitch" right?

Cassidy: Yes. It calls itself "Glitchtrap". While it could be just code and agony, I think. I think your dad might have come back again...

Evan: Yeah. I feel it too. In my very soul. We have to put an end to it!

Cassidy: ... I should have listened to Old Man Consequences. This is all my fault.

Evan: What do you mean?

Cassidy: He told me to let William be with his demons. To rest my soul. But I didn't listen to him. I was just so hurt and angry about what happened to all of us. About how he kept getting away with it. How he kept coming back. I wanted justice. I wanted revenge. But look at what that did. All it did was make more suffering and pain. And now, when Fazbear Entertainment found those files, it was unleashed unto the world and it trapped me in this dark place. What escaped is an evil worse than anything I could have ever imagined. Now he's back! He can make people do whatever he wants now. And now I have no power over him anymore. I-I'm -

Evan: Cass! You're crying. Ar-are you ok?

Cassidy: No! No I'm not! I haven't felt this way since the moment of our deaths. I'm scared. I'm so scared. I don't know what to do! And it's all my fault!

The young boy puts his hand on the shoulder of his crying friend. To comfort her as she used to comfort him all those years ago before he died and while their souls were trapped in machines within the old pizzeria.

Evan: Cassidy! We're just kids. It's ok to be angry and afraid. That's what makes us human. My mom said that. I know he hurt everyone in ways no one could have ever imagined. I know you wanted to make my dad pay for his crimes. But you and Andrew should have let him be punished the right way. Old Man Consequences was right. But it's not that dad doesn't deserve to suffer. He definitely does. But you shouldn't be the one to do it. You shouldn't be filled with such hate and anger. You two should have come with us. In a place where our tears could be wiped from our eyes and true peace flows like a roaring river. Where nightmares are a distant memory. Where we could live happy and free. Forever and ever.

Cassidy: I-I know. God I'm such an idiot! I let all of this happen. I bet everyone hates me and Andy for this...

Evan: Hey! No one hates you. See? I'm with you. Our friends on the flipside are with you, and everyone in Hurricane who is still alive are all counting on you! Here. Take this. Charlie wanted you to have this.

Evan reaches from his pocket to pull out a small green jewel and he hands it over to his teary-eyed friend. Within a blink of an eye, they transform into a lantern, a breastplate, and a sword, instantly equipping itself onto the young girl's spectral body.

Cassidy: (Sniff) What are these things?

Evan: The emerald inside the lantern is life. A light so you can see and guide others out of the dark and into freedom. The armor is strength. It will protect you from any evil thing that would dare try to harm you. And the sword is courage. The willpower of virtue that slays the wicked and protects the innocent! I think they fit you don't you think?

After hearing her friend's speech, she couldn't help but to start laughing. It wasn't a laugh to make fun of him or to put him down. But a laugh of pure joy in what Evan said to her and he couldn't help but join in too. It was a bit cheesy and to most people, they would have bullied and belittled him for such a speech but that's what she and all the other missing children liked about her adorkable little friend. He was himself. A true ball of sunshine

Cassidy: HA HA HA HA HA! I guess you're right about that. Heehehehehe! Did Ms. Clara help you come up with that one? Ha ha.

Evan: Yep! She and Lizzie helped with that one! You know how mom, me, and sis always loved fairytales about princesses and knights! In fact, the armor thing was her idea but we all pitched in some kind of way to make this. Mom and Lizzie helped with making the armor. Charlie made the emerald and Susie made the lantern. While Gabriel, Jeremy and Fritz helped make the sword.

Cassidy while looking through her reflection though her sword was absolutely touched by what she heard. Her friends, the ones who had been with her since childhood and death had all helped to make this. She couldn't have ever had wanted anyone else as friends and family.

Cassidy: Stop. You're going to make me cry again...

She stares into the darkened expanse of this shadowy castle.

Cassidy: I guess it's just us now.

Evan: It's more than just us Cass. This is for everyone who ever died here. Who's lives were broken because of dad and this accursed company. This is for those who are alive and who needs saving and our town that we must protect!

Now something wonderful happened. Cassidy was now filled with a new purpose. A bright and vigorous determination not targeted for revenge, but justice and salvation. Not to condemn, but to save!

Cassidy: Yeah. Yeah! We got this! I choose to fight! But I'm not going to fight against what I hate but for what I love! And that's all of you! Thank you Evan! Let's do this!

Evan: Hurray! Hurray! Let's go!

Cassidy: Yes! Let's- Wait. I have to do this. This is my fight. I don't want you getting hurt! I need you to do something else.

Evan: Really? What is it?

She has remembered that there was a boy here. A nightguard who's under the twisted control of Glitchtrap. And plenty of animatronics. Animatronics who have been corrupted and are set out to capture and kill this boy.

Cassidy: There's a boy here. A boy who's stuck in this new pizzeria who is in grave danger. He strangely, looks a bit like you. I think his name is Gregory. You need to find him Evan! Please! Protect him! But be careful. There's a woman here, named Vanessa. She's the nightguard here. You cannot let her catch him or she'll kill him! Just like we were killed!

Evan: H-how can I help? What should I do?

Cassidy: There's a new Freddy here. I think you know what to do...

Evan: Heh. Even when I'm dead I still have homework. Alright! I got you! I'll do my best! I'll find and protect this Gregory and take out the nightguard. Please, stay safe Cass.

Cassidy: Wait! Don't hurt her! She's under his control too! I don't want another innocent person getting hurt because of William's evil...

Evan: If I can't kill her, how do I stop her?

Cassidy: I'll do what I can. But I will do my best to free the night guard. She's the glitch's captive. But I think the best way to free her is play the Princess Quest games. Though I'll try to do that myself if I can. I just want you to keep that boy safe. Evan, If I don't make it back, if something bad happens to me, please, get the crew.

Evan: Don't say that Cassie! We will make it back! But if you're in trouble, I'll get everyone! You know how Gabriel, Jeremy, Susie, Fritz, Charlie, and everyone are just itching to give dad a good thrashing. Let's do this so we can go home and be at peace! So we can read our favorite stories, play games we never got to play, learn new things, eat our favorite foods. (And even the ones we didn't like before.) Explore the forest of eternity and just be with the people we love!

Cassidy: You're right Evan! Let's do this! (High fives each other)

But as they were about to part ways, Evan had remembered to give something to Cassidy, he reached into his other pocket and pulled out a shining golden marble. And when it touched Cassidy's hand, it instantaneously transformed into something beautiful.

Cassidy: What is this?

Evan: It's something me, Andy, and Ms. Brooks have been working on for a while. Our final gift to you. It's a crown! It's leadership. You've grown so much and did a lot to help us. It doesn't have the same power as the other things but you know we have faith in you. And you know, every princess needs her crown!

Cassidy: Drewy. He's free too?

Evan: Yeah. A boy named Jake helped him free his soul a while ago. He's with us now.

Cassidy: I have to thank this Jake boy- Wait! You said Ms. Brooks too. M-mom is there with you guys!?

Evan: Yes. She died over 30 years ago. Dad considered her an annoying loose end... He had her forced in an asylum and had her murdered shortly after. She's been waiting for you for so long. She missed you all so much.

Cassidy: Andy... Mama... Everyone... Thank you.

As she was on her way, she had thought about one other person. Michael. The one who had always been there to help stop William in whatever scheme he came up with. The one who helped free everyone's souls from their prison. The one who survived them all so many times. When she thought of him, she had to bring him up.

Cassidy: Hey Ev. Do you think Mike might be around too? I haven't seen him in a bit but I feel that he's nearby.

Evan: What!? He should be helping Mom comfort Lizzie and protecting our friends and family! He should not be here! Why would he be here!?

Cassidy: I Don't know. I think he won't sit this out. Are you still mad at him?

Evan: ...Yes. I know he saved everyone and I know I forgave him but it still hurts by heart to think about him sometimes. But most importantly, he doesn't know what's going on! I need to find that new Freddy now and reach Mike. I can't let him mess this up!

Meanwhile, Michael is about to take possession of Glamrock Freddy. This will leave Evan as a subtle guide to Gregory instead. And so starts Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach.
