Muffins and Penny Argue Over What Color the Dress Is

Summary:

What the tin says (this originated from an inside joke and I thought it would be the funniest thing to try and write about it)

Work Text:

A few days ago, Penny was searching online through dresses to pick through. She had a habit of wearing them around when she could, usually to dances and parties with her friends. It felt like they had a natural fit to her. After having selected through a few to show off for an upcoming gathering, there was one dress that had stood out to her. Penny wasn't sure if it was because of the lighting, but she was interested in buying it. Her partner Muffins walked by and found Penny looking through the catalogue. She greeted Penny and surprised the dog with a gentle touch to her cheek. Penny left out a soft sound as the surprise of Muffins waved through her body.

"Heya Muffins," Penny teased.

"Whatcha workin' on?" Muffins asked.

"Oh, y'know, preparing for something special."

"Hm?"

"Looking through some dresses to wear for the event."

Muffins looked up at the screen and became interested in some of the designs Penny chose.

"Here, I'll show you the one I'm thinking of trying out," Penny told Muffins. She scrolled up as her selections went down through the screen until the one she had in mind was there. "What do you think?"

Muffins was in awe of the dress. "Oooh, I think that'll look good on you!"

Penny giggled, "Yeah."

"The blue and black compliment well with your fur."

"Ye- huh?" Penny was confused.

"The blue and black on the dress. I think it'll look good on you, bud."

"What blue and black?" To Muffins' surprise, Penny didn't see the colors of the dress the same way.

"The dress?"

"Ah, you're a funny one Muffins. I like ya when you're like this."

"Wait, Penny, what's going on?"

Penny let out another laugh, "You know the dress is obviously white and yellow."

"No?" Muffins responded. Penny started to notice that she was genuinely confused through her conflicted facial expression. Muffins pointed to the screen, "Look, it's blue and black."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"I think the lighting's throwing you off, Pen."

"Wh- but how?"

"Look at the title of the dress too, it says it right there: black and blue."

Penny stood there blank at the screen. It did indeed say so, but the colors did not register with what she was seeing. "How?! It's white and yellow!"

"Penny, I don't see it that way."

Penny pointed to what she thought was the yellow of the dress, "Doesn't that look gold to you?"

"Well, there's the sun that adds a little yellow to it, but it's just the lighting of it."

Penny squinted her eyes and tried to force herself to see the dress in the colors that Muffins told her. "Dude, I just can't see it."

"You're gonna make me call the others about this."

"If I buy it, is it going to be blue and black?"

"Well what do you think?"

"I don't know man, it's just..." Penny couldn't put her words together. Her thoughts became scrambled as the picture she had in mind of herself wearing it wildly changed. The lighter colors fit with her well and she just didn't quite get the same appeal for the now darker colors of the dress. This whole thing seemed silly to the both of them but how could it be so complicated to agree upon a simple color of a dress?

Penny and Muffins continued to argue about the color of the dress. It was more of a playful banter, yet it still baffled both of them on how there was such a disagreement. Catching the two off guard, Pinky came in their room and walked in on the debate.

"Bro, both of y'all are tripping. It's green and orange!" Pinky boldly told the two. Muffins and Pinky became silent and looked at him in distraught. Pinky tried to brush it off with his signature snickle, but for some reason the two's death stares completely overtook him. Pinky fainted and lay there on the ground with his arms drooping on the floor, his mouth wide open.
