Work Text:

The blades of grass gently swayed with the wind, making not a sound in Floralia Wood. As usual, the fairy lights grabbing ahold on the trees lit up the pathways with the same hue combination of sage green, blue, and purple, looking beautiful underneath a black sky decorated with stars.

Loud chirps and squeaks from the woodland creatures tone down into nothing but silence in the dark.

Finally. There is some peace.

Underneath the lush grass lay Dorago, observing the stars. Grouped close to another, they resembled multiple shapes.

There was a small constellation replicating an actual shape of a star. Then another in the shape of a worm.

A flower. And another small star.

There was one too many, he lost count of how many constellations he saw.

Looking to the side, his eyes were set on the bushes resting against the trees surrounding the dragon like a barricade protecting him from harm. Nothing was really special about the bush, it was just a bush anyway. He shifted his attention to the trees, then to the sky again.

Sigh.

I am in need of movement.

Taking a deep inhale, he sat up carefully just so his cape didn’t get stuck underneath. But sitting up isn’t enough to take in all of the sights he silently yearns for. He then stood up completely, letting the quiet winds lure his mind into a calm state.

The dragon moved gracefully but silently through the green blades, deeply looking into the night sky, yet not knowing where his legs would take him.

Just when his own set of eyes were glued onto a bright speck of a star…

Crunch.

Oh.

His mind quickly came back alertly, worried that he stepped on a fragile object.

Slowly lifting his foot up, he had stepped on a peculiar leaf, with teal highlights dimly glowing. He was reminiscent of what leaf belonged to what, and it seems like this one was in possession of something…delicate.

Delicate. And never…seen before.

Wait.

He lifted his head up to find a place. A beautiful place.

It was a field full of an astonishing amount of flowers—the leaves on them illuminated the ground with a dim teal-green glow, which was helpful in case someone went down this path. Different varieties scattered across the surface, leaving Dorago’s breath on hold, trying to acknowledge the fact that he’s never seen something as perfect as those clusters of plants close to each other and making a masterpiece out of it.

He moved closer to the area. It was clear that his movements were full of curiosity, and his senses were entranced.

A sweet aroma filled the air once he had come in close proximity to a couple of flowers. Observing the patterns and details, he circled around them, squinting his eyes.

Intrigued, he searched left and right to observe further.

Enough to find something familiar in the distance.

A blurry visage of a cream-white flower appeared. Its edges, albeit unclear to see with such tired eyes, were sharp but not too sharp. His feet unexpectedly took him to the flower.

Turns out that flower was a-

A…lily.

The beast’s expression softened, just by his pupils dilating, and his tail wagged faintly.

Lilies in Floralia Wood are not common to find, even if one comes across the field, which…as recent records has mentioned, this specific part of the forest was never found. Not even a foreigner can find it.

So how come the dragon did…?

Dorago crouched down and sniffed the lily.

The scent felt…comforting. Almost melancholy, in a sense, bringing back old memories of when…

Back when…his world was complete with the little girl he once knew of, filled with a light so bright no one could live up to, to this day.

He gently picked the flower up with a shadow hand and bought it close to his nose just to take in the scent once again.

Within seconds of his inhale, fragments of his memories echoes in his head.

And they’re not the bad kind, thank goodness.

He sighed in satisfaction as he opened his eyes and looked up to the round gap the trees made, exposing the night sky above.

However, all of this movement made him sleepy, so he laid himself down yet again, holding the thing he cherished most to his chest.

But not only was there a cluster of these constellations, but the moon presented itself out of nowhere as well. Additionally, legends in Floralia say that when an adventurer in this unknown area sees the moon uniting the constellations one by one, a single wish can be made, and nothing else.

It only works in here, as his daughter remarked one time.

Now this proved to be a perfect night after all.

The dragon closed his eyes and sighed, preparing to explain what he desires, or in this case, wants for someone.

“Take care of my kid. There’s really not much I can do for her now, but please…”

“Do what you think will keep her safe from harm.”
