On Days Quite Like This One

Summary:

A nonet written for week 4 of the GOetry Pillow Fight Event on the theme "Bubble Bath"

Notes:

We know we're posting it a week late BUT that means that we're posting it on Ineffable Wives Weekend which makes it all the better. 💕💕

Work Text:

Water runs hot across fingertips

perfect temperature slipping

through the space between gasps, hums.

Toes replace fingers then

pink calves slip deeper

beneath bubbles

the angel

sinks and

sighs.

Another afternoon rain-drenched with

drops plopping soft from leaves heavy

the water’s still surface now

disturbed by rippling,

disturbed by splashing

two long, lean limbs

plunge deeper

as she

joins.

“You're sloshing the water,” Az stifles

a giggle and spreads her knees wide

like the space between dimples

brackets demonic grins.

Crowley slinks between

thighs between arms

between breaths

while she

purrs.

It’s hard to remember on days quite

like this one, just how many years

they have spent in this way.

It must be near nine now

Az thinks to herself

running sudsy

fingertips

down sharp

spines.

Despite the years and all of the love

Sometimes Crowley still wonders how

they have gotten so lucky.

That over six thousand

years of withholding

their love could lead

to sharing

a joint

home.

“How could it be that someone so pure,

my angel on earth, could love me?”

She thinks she does not deserve

to hold an angel’s heart

to be intertwined

beneath the warm

waters one

and the

same.

Yet Crowley knows that Aziraphale

could never love anyone else

the way that she loves Crowley

their love forged in fires

in floods and in the

soft bubbles of

shared cleansing

suds of

love.

She is secure in that love which knows

no bounds. The love of an angel

and a demon, forbidden,

and yet together

they are strong enough

are soft enough

to find home

to find

peace.

The simple joy of sharing a bath

the bubbles covering soft skin

is a miracle. The joy

of embracing their love

is a holy gift

they made alone

to their world

to be

"us."
