“Ava what’s my number one rule when we are at the station?” Tim asks as they are walking into the station. He stops and looks at all four of his kids who are looking up at him.
“Don’t wander off.” Ava says looking up with big blue eyes. Her blonde hair is in one long braid, and she has her I’m an angel face on.
“Right.” Tim says narrowing his eyes at her. She’s eight, and she definitely knew right from wrong.
For the most part.
“Don’t go to Smitty.” Daisy pipes up. Tim looks away from Ava to look at Daisy, who is usually the good one unless her older sister pulled her into her shenanigans which happened more often than not.
“Right Dais.” Tim says and his six year old beams up at him. “Smitty does not have good advice.”
Ava nods her head importantly. “Sometimes he does.” Ava says.
“He never does.” Tim says running a hand down his face. Bringing all four kids to the station was the last thing he wanted to do. But Genny was out of town, Lucy was at work and he just needed to do a few things. It would probably take less than twenty minutes but still. It felt like a chore bringing all the kids to work when they were hyped up.
“Levi.” He says turning to his son. “You don’t run off okay? You stay with me and your sisters.”
“Okay daddy.” Levi says blinking up at him much like Ava does when she’s about to asks something unhinged. Tim shakes his head, and then turns to his youngest daughter.
“Junebug.” He says knowing June would probably be the most behaved of the four but her anxiety would get the best of her. “I know it’s a little crazy in there. But just stick with me.”
June chews on her bottom lip and then lips up her arms so Tim can pick her up. Tim bends down and scoops her up and puts her on his hip.
“Daddy can we go inside?” Ava asks. Tim nods and ushers the other three ahead of him. He follows them inside and watches as they take it all in.
“Daddy look cops!” Levi says turning back to look at him. Tim just shakes his head.
“Yes buddy we are at a police station. Come on let’s go find mom.” Tim says. Ava takes off towards Lucy’s desk and he watches as she skids to a stop when she sees Lucy isn’t there.
“Hi aunt Angela!” Daisy say bouncing up to Angela who jumps a little looking startled. Tim sets June down and she runs towards Angela too.
“Well.” Angela says looking over at Tim a amused look on her face as all four kids gather around her. “This is a surprise!”
“I just have to get some things done.” Tim tells her. “I didn’t have a babysitter.” Angela nods and turns back towards the kids. Tim sighs softly knowing they would be okay while he went to find the two new rookies.
Tim walks off towards the break room and sees the rookies leaning against the counter. “Penn! Ridley!” He says. Both of the rookies jump and stand up straight when they see Tim approaching.
“Sir! Sergeant! Sir!” Ridley says. Tim rolls his eyes a little. He had been tasked to train Penn and then Ridley came along. Nolan was his main TO but Tim took over at times to help out.
“Yes sir?” Miles says looking over at Seth and then back at Tim. “I thought today was your day off?”
“It is.” Tim says gruffly looking behind him to make sure his kids were still with Angela. “I need some paperwork done by tomorrow morning.”
“Yes sir.” Penn says. “Where is it?” Tim says and scrubs his fingers through his hair. He really just wants to get the paperwork, give it to the rookies and then take his kids out to eat.
“In my office.” He says. “Look—” He pauses when he sees Ava and Daisy running towards him with the twins close behind them.
“Daddy!” Levi jumps on one side and June gets on the other. He shakes his head and looks at the rookies who are staring at the kids.
“Hi!” Ava says to Miles. “You were the one flirting with my mom.” Miles blinks at her and he’s looks a little stunned.
“Sorry about that.” Miles says looking at Ava and then at the other three. “Are they all yours?”
“You have kids?” Seth asks scanning all of them. “You are married.” Tim opens his mouth to reply but Levi beats him too it.
“He’s married to my mama.” Levi says proudly puffing out his chest. He climbs off Tim’s leg and peers up at Seth. “Who are you?”
“Seth Ridley.” He says sounding almost nervous. “Mini sir sergeant sir!” Levi tilts his head at him looking confused.
June climbs off Tim too and hides behind his leg. “Are you new boots?” Daisy asks Seth curiously. “Is my daddy tough?”
“H-he is a great sergeant!” Seth says. “Ma’am.” Tim snorts and shakes his head looking at Miles who looks half amused and half confused.
“He is a great training officer.” Miles says honestly. “He really is. He must be a great dad.”
“He’s the best dad ever!” Ava says grinning. “I think we stress him out.” Tim rolls his eyes up to the ceiling.
“What’s going on here?” Tim looks around and sees Lucy standing at the entrance looking amused.
“Mommy!” Levi squeals running over to her. Lucy bends down and scoops the little boy up and he hugs her tightly. Tim looks and sees the stunned look on Ridley’s face. Lucy gives him a look and Tim opens his mouth to speak but Ava beats him to it.
“You look stunned.” Ava says to Seth. “Would you like to hear their whole love story?”
“Alright.” Tim says quickly. He doesn’t need his eight year old to air their dirty laundry to the rookies. “I will be right back.” He hurries off to his office leaving the kids with Lucy. He grabs the big stack of papers and then hurries back and puts them in Penn’s arms.
“All of this?” Penn asks aghast. “What—” Lucy shoots Tim an amused look but helps him get the kids out of the break room.
“You better get started.” Tim tells him. “I need it done by tomorrow!”
“Get to work Boots!” Ava calls as she’s leaving the room. Tim hears Lucy laughing and he just rolls his eyes as he gives the rookies one last look before he’s back in the bullpen.
“I think our kids scared Ridley.” Lucy says but she has an amused look on her face. Tim laughs and leans forward to give her a kiss.
“Good.” He says. “It will make them learn not to mess with me.” Lucy just laughs as Tim takes Levi and June’s hands. He nudges Ava and Daisy out of the station.
“Bye mommy!” Levi calls. “See you at home.” Lucy laughs again and then they disappear into the parking garage.
“Hey dad.” Ava says once they are all in the truck. She’s in the front seat and he looks over at her with raised eyebrows.
“What Aves?” He asks. Ava doesn’t answer right away, she just looks out the window and then back at him.
“Do you think your boots will get the paperwork done?” She asks. Tim shrugs his shoulders, it was a lot but between the two of them they could probably get it done.
“Hopefully.” He says pulling out of the parking spot. Ava hums softly, and goes back to looking out the window.
“Dad?” Ava says a few minutes later.
“Yes Ava?” He says. Ava looks over at him, blue eyes big and curious.
“Am I your favorite boot?” She asks. Tim snorts and looks back at his other three kids who aren’t paying any attention to them.
“Depends.” Tim says. “Are you going to do what I ask you the first time?”
“Yes sir!” Ava says giggling. Tim rolls his eyes and reaches out to ruffle her hair.
“You are in the running Aves. You have competition between your siblings and your mom.” He says and grins at the look on his daughter’s face.
“Okay.” She says. “I guess I will be good.” Tim grins a little to himself and he’s sure Ava will do something that will make his hair turn a little more grey. His other kids too but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
