Chapter Text
"Alright class today we're going to be filling out sheets for future jobs we'd like but," Izuku's homeroom teacher started, "I know you all want to be heroes!" He yelled enthusiastically with a toss of the papers and the sounds of his classmates quirks which woke him from his slumber.
"Wah..?" Izuku mustered before Bakugo spoke. "C'mon teach don't get their hopes up, these guys with be lucky to be sidekicks to a washed up d lister pro." The blond snarked. Immediately the room filled with "hey!" "What the hell!?!" And "pompous asshole!"
"Kacchan..." Izuku tried to fix the situation. "I aced the mock tests and I have one of the highest scores in the school." Bakugou said with a smirk.
Their teacher looked confused for a moment before looking at Bakugo's files, "hmm... ah, yes, Bakugo it is true that you have a good shot at being a hero with your quirk and Brain and it says here you're applying for UA highschool?" Their teacher adjusted his glasses almost as if he'd read it wrong.
"Hey isn't UA hard to get into?" A kid in the back yelled. Izuku's notes, from what he remembers, says that their quirk allowed them to shoot lasers of different colors form their finger tips. "Hold on just a moment," their teacher said, starting to diffuse the situation, "Bakugo has good standing to get into UA but it seems we have another applicant for UA."
There was a hushed whisper among Izuku's classmates and as for Izuku? Well, right now he wanted to duck his head or at least just some of his fleece cut. "Who?" Bakugou gritted his teeth, his voice was of an anger as though he was trying to be ok with it but was obviously failing.
"Well," their teacher started, adjusting his glasses slightly, "oh, Midoriya it looks like you also applied for UA." And suddenly all eyes were on him with Bakugo's boring into him till the bell rang.
Damn it! Izuku thought to himself, I got to go befor- and then he felt it, Bakugo had a sadistic smile as his hand started to burn Izuku's uniform. "Kacchan I can ex-" Izuku tried to speak. "Nerd I thought I told you," his fist balled up and Izuku braced for impact, "That a useless Deku like you can never be a hero." The punch was hard and to the gut with the fur underneath barely cushioning the blow.
After what seemed like 45 minutes instead of the actual 5 minutes Bakugo's and his 'friends' attack had ceased and Izuku could feel the bruise and felt glad that his fleece would at least cover it so his mom wouldn't notice.
The walk home was just a series of unfortunate events. Kacchan dumped his note book in the pond and it got Izuku's fleece wet so he had decided to take a short cut under the bridge. What a huge mistake he made.
The Villain loomed above him, the green sludge smelling of rot and possibly ammonia with muck swirling around the sludge monster, empty cans, wet paper towels and shards of glass but it was weird, it was like the mucus like liquid controlled the flow as to avoid the mouth and eyes.
"What a perfect opportunity," the villain chuckle, the voice damp with a autotune reverb in it, "you didn't live long kid but hey! You'll always be a hero to ME!" And just like that its grotesque body lunged at Izuku, only bary dodging from constant harassment from peers.
The Villain tried again and managed to take hold of his hand and used some sludge to cling onto the small amount of soft wool that covered his arms. "Help!" Izuku mustered out before the slime tried to enter his mouth and nose.
Suffocating, that was his only option, the goo stuck and he could feel it trying to worm through hims tightly cupped hand. "C'mon kid, help a fellow mutant out?" The Villain tried.
Izuku managed a nod and while he couldn't use his hand his hooves where free. He gave a hard kick to the mouth and managed to break a tooth, the blood spilled on to the ground as the villain hissed in pain . Izuku didn't have much longer.
The Villain huffed and out of the corner of his eye Izuku saw a puff of smoke? If someone was there they probably didn't care but he was swiftly proven wrong when he was about to give up and the thunderous boom of "I AM HERE!" came from behind them.
The Villain held Izuku as he turned too late only to see All Might pull back a punch, yell "Plus Ultra!" And blow the villain to bits along with Izuku being blown back into a wall.
Instantly Izuku gulped down air like it was water after a period of PE, each breathe hurting in the best way and the tension in him slowly calming. He huffed and gasped on last time before looking at the hero in front of him.
All Might.
Instantly he looked for his book, he had to get his autograph. When he finally found it he saw the hero screwing a cap onto a 2 liter bottle now holding the villain who seemed to be yelling but there was no noise.
"Uh All Might?" Izuku asked sheepishly before looking the hero in his piercing blue eyes, "I was wondering... Do you think that a Mutant quirk user like me can be a hero?" He asked, eyes shut tightly as though any words spoken would be a punch to the face handing the notebook to him.
"Young man," the hero started, pulling out a marker, "what type of Mutant are you?" Izuku looked up as him, his ear pinned slightly and fluffy tail still as he spoke, "it's called [Sheep] sir."
"Then I'm sorry my boy..." All might spoke but his voice didn't sound much like sympathy but more like he found it to be a joke as he continued, handing him his book, "Mutants can be allowed to be heroes but it is a rare few with animals such as a tiger or perhaps a dog quirk, weak animals cannot protect, only flee such as the animals you come from and those that are strong yet scary? They become villains such as him." He held up the sludge monster in the bottle, it's red-yellow eyes glaring at him.
"But I thought..." Izuku was on the verge of tears, his dream couldn't end like this could it? "It is the unfortunate truth." All might shrugged, "I must be on my way now young Sheep; perhaps look into something safer?" Izuku only nodded numbly in response.
Izuku walked home, head hanging low. what matters anymore? I can't be a hero, I never could... His thoughts echoed on repeat, they were right... He was just a useless Deku of a sheep...
His nose twitched, he wouldn't have cared but it was a familiar smell... Where was it from? He thought for a moment before whipping his head around and seeing the black and red color the sky.
Fire!
Izuku bolted, the clopping on his hooves against the ground as the only muffled sound he could hear but when he turned the corner on to the street full of smoke he felt sick to his stomach.
There was Bakugou trapped by the same monster he had been trapped by moments before, the ghost feeling of the murky liquid enveloping him came but there wasn't time to dwell on that, he turned to the heroes but...
The just stood there, the water hose hero was trying to contain the fire instead of trying to contain the villain with the others just scratching their heads looking as Bakugo was slowly suffocating and then their eyes met.
There was no time to think, Izuku ran, propelled himself above the flames and sprinted to the pair as the villain snarled "YOU!" It yelled, breath hot and sticky.
Izuku didn't even care he ran, turned and gave one strong kick to its eyes as it aimed Bakugo's hands right at Izuku too late.
It screamed in pain as it's hold on Bakugo loosen, and Izuku tugged every breath he took was more and more smoke but he didn't care, he might not be able to be a hero but he can still help!
"Why?!" Izuku turned his head, tears visible in the corner of his eyes, "Cause I have to save you!" Izuku gave one last tug and Bakugo had only a leg submerged.
"Thanks Kit!" A woman's voice broke through, they peered up and saw the pro hero Miruko, "Luna..." She jumped, a feral smile on her face, "Fall!" And one last kick to the eye and the villain was defeated with Izuku and Bakugo sitting back clearly surprised.
After the police collected the villain and took him to a holding jug the surrounding heroes praised Bakugo for his power and quirk while the others scolded Izuku.
"Kid what were you thinking?!" One hero started, "We had it handled, you should've-" "should have what?" Miruko interjected, "Cause the only thing I saw when I arrived has about 5 pro heros sitting on their asses while a kid was dying and another showed a bunch of civilians that he's a helluva lot more brave than the rest of you!" She berated.
She continued to scold them, quite loudly, about how they should have reacted and not yell at a kid for doing something they couldn't.
When she finished she huffed then she turned to the pair and Izuku immediately got up, his notebook already in hand, the pages were wet but it was amazing to see her in action. "Please sign my note book!" He half yelled half asked.
She smirked at him and burst out laughing. Why was she laughing? oh... He thought she doesn't care, probably go talk to Kacchan and tell him how amazing he is...
He was snapped out of his self-loathing as she sniffled and tried collecting herself, "Kid you're the only person I've met who saved someone and their first reaction was to get an autograph!" She wheezed.
Izuku tilled his head with one ear upward and the other pointed downward, "wah?" He chirped out. Immediately Miruko started to laugh again. "Hahaha! You're like a little lamb!" She exclaimed wiping away tears. "Tell you what kid, you get into UA and I'll give you my autograph." She smirked.
"Y-you really think I can do it?" Izuku looked up, a shaky grin and at that she gave a confused grin. "Course you can, which dumbass told you you couldn't?" She asked. "My some heroes... Couple classmates..." She gave a small "tch" and folded her arms, "Listen kid, anyone who says that people like you and me can't be heroes can go try to fight cause although we might be weak or 'prey'" she air quoted, "we're still strong, don't forget that."
Izuku was at a loss for words, Izuku had talked to other pros and every time they said that no one wants a Mutant hero or he was a weak Mutant and should focus on something else but here was one Hero telling him he could and it felt...
Amazing
"Thank you." He whispered shakily also like if he spoke to Loud it's destroy what ever illusion was around him despite it being the truth, he could be a hero.
Miruko patted his shoulder lightly with her iconic smile as she spoke, "Well what do you say? You get into UA and I'll give you my autograph, hell if you win the sports festival I'll even consider an internship." She half joked.
Izuku nodded like there was no tomorrow and just like that he challenged a top 10 hero into an internship, and Izuku was going to make damn sure that he got that autograph so he supposed he could go to that mutant quirked gym near by, what's the harm?
