Chapter Text
Chase hadn't thought of much when he had taken the book home.
It was a blank book, pages within smudged with some pencil lead from being doodled on by some delinquents (the sight would have made Deacon gasp in horror). The cover wasn't much to look at either, though it did have a pretty vine pattern that stuck out enough where he could run his fingers in the grooves. It felt oddly nice. At the time, he didn't think much of it. It would probably be an easy book anyways. A book without words would be short, right? Easy peasy lemon squeezy. So, he took the book home.
Silver was skeptical of it at first, seeming weary of the blank pages and mysterious secrets lying within, though accepted it and allowed Chase to enter the book as per usual. The book began as any other. Fancy castle, rich guy trying to kiss Chase all the time, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. So, now here he was, sitting beside the prince while he watched newcomers enter the castle. Some were beggars, on their knees for a hint of gold, most were noblemen, though a pair seemed to catch his eyes. Sitting up straighter than he would like, Chase squinted in the direction of the two, obscured by the big crowd of people in the throne room, though he could never mistake those spiky bangs and sharp eyes. Buddy.
He scoffed as the prince called Buddy and his.. what, boss? over to have a ‘chat’. Of course Buddy always found some way to torment him with his presence in every book. As the two story characters spoke to each other, Chase and Buddy stared at each other in a silent battle of who could hold their ground easier. Chase had to admit, Buddy was winning. What, were this guy's eyes made of metal or something?!
Looking away reluctantly, Chase rubbed a hand over his now watery eye, looking over at the prince. Honestly, he wasn't much to look at. He was just like any other prince, fancy hair fixed up, white suit that practically screamed “Hey, I'm a good guy”, and a smile that seemed planted into his face at all times. It was kind of cool to see how animated the story book characters could look. It was as if they were real, yet fake at the same time.
Eventually, Chase grew bored of staring at this story prince and stood, smoothening the wrinkles in the outfit Silver had created for him and clearing his throat. “Well, I'm gonna go to the food court thing, it doesn't look like you need me here anyways so I'll be on my way now!”
Before he had the chance to make his escape, Buddy boss, who previously stated his name as Vixen, spoke up. “Wait, dear princess.” He stepped forward, bowing down and taking Chase's hand before raising it to his lips. Ew. “Wouldn't you be so kind as to give my assistant a tour of the kingdom?”
You have got to be kidding me, Chase silently groaned, pulling his hand away and wiping it without a care for the characters feelings. “Come to think of it, I actually have some royal stuff to do, so I can't.”
“Nonsense, I'll take care of them for you, my sweet!” the prince exclaimed, beaming at Chase with exhausting optimism.
Chase eternally cringed.
Buddy looked over with a smirk that could kill. “Well, lead the way, princess.”
