Work Text:
Fear. Fear is what he felt.
The totem cushioned most of the damage but his muscles ached and blood poured out of his fresh wounds like a water dancing with the flow of a river. He saw Dean in front of him in the same condition as he was. He couldn't spit out anything, not his words, not the blood lingering on his tongue. He was so close to him yet so far away. What felt like an opportunity to grab the other, it was quickly ripped away as Dean disappeared.
There was nothing left besides the smell of a newly popped totem; sweet and comforting, yet alerted danger and panic to most players. It filled the air around him, potent like a rotting body in the summer heat.
The world around him paused briefly. All he could feel is his racing heart through his body that penetrated through his tough netherite armor. He was gasping for air; fresh air that didn’t poison him with the taste of death. The cold air brushed against his skin, making his body shake. The world lost it’s color and blended together with his tears. He saw Luigi’s body collapse before the server disintegrated his body. He saw the fear in Dean’s eyes. He saw the pain and anger in Wifies’.

Parrot woke up with his stomach wanting to climb up his mouth. His body shook the bed he once rested in. The movement from his tremors must’ve woken up the other next to him.
“Parrot?” Wifies said, “Hey look at me. You’re okay, you’re with me.”
He touched Parrot’s hand and soothed his back. He moved closer. “Shhh. Deep breaths okay? Follow my breathing. It’s okay you’re okay. You’re safe.”
Parrot tried to follow Wifies’ breathing but his body couldn’t. It felt like someone was squeezing his chest as hard as they could. His body shook as he sobbed and sniffled. He couldn’t talk or think or control himself. Parrot gripped Wifies’ hand as tightly as he could. He didn’t want to lose him too.
Wifies brought the avian closer to him and wrapped Parrot with his favorite blanket. He wiped his tears off with the sleeve of his gray sweater. Before he could do anything else, Parrot jumped into Wifies’ arms. His fingernails dug into his back as he sobbed into Wifies’ shoulder.
Wifies rubbed Parrot’s back and kissed his hair. “Do you need some water?”
“Please don’t leave. I-” Parrot choked. “I’m so sorry Wifies I’m so sorry.”
“There’s nothing for you to be sorry for. I’m not leaving I promise.”
Parrot gripped onto Wifies like if he let go just slightly, he’ll disappear from his grasp. “You promise?”
“Yes I promise.”

Parrot woke up cold and fearful just like every other night since The Mafia collapsed. He waited for the warmth, words of reassurance, and love Wifies would always give him after these nightmares. But nothing came.
He looked over to his left with tears in his eyes and saw an empty space where his best friend was supposed to be. Nothing but a phantom. He waited, and waited, and waited. His skin itched for contact, his hand yearned for someone to hold it just like he did. Nothing came no matter how long he stayed in bed crying.
He’d beg, steal, and kill for just one more hour with him.
