Work Text:
It wasn’t working, somehow, and it makes him start to think that Oikawa is the most stupid man alive.
Her eyes are over Suna as he glares at him for the longest time. He sees the guy talk with a dozen people in the club, walk around a few groups, sit down at a few tables, but barely spare them a wave when his eyes find them.
It’s their friend's fault for forcing him to go out after exams. It’s also their fault for saying they are inviting friends right by her side, making him obligated to come and drag her as well.
Suna never liked this place anyway, made far too bad decisions after drinking some of those glasses in front of him, and somehow, what bothered him the most was experiencing all this again with her by his side. A gently reminder of what happened in the past years of their friendship, but a more brutal one of what has been in his mind in the past few months of this agreement. Suna groans, rolls his eyes, and tears his gaze from the dance floor.
Standing there right by his side with her arms crossed and a furrow on her brow, the blue lights dance across her skin. Suna finds her gaze, watches her eyes reflect a fire he hasn’t seen before as she glares in his direction, and realizes he has never seen anything more beautiful in his entire life. He presses his back harder against the wall behind him, grasping onto the bar to resist the urge to sink lower into the stool.
Bad idea, he tells himself, over and over again, but his mouth isn’t listening at this point.
“He’s looking, isn’t he?” Suna asked, her eyes finally straying to look to her side, parting from him for the first time that night. She nods shortly, and before her gaze finds him again, she sees his body leaning forward and then his breath against her cheek. “Do you mind if I do something stupid?”
Her body feels warm. This voice isn’t the voice he talks to her and this sure isn’t the distance he keeps either. Suna can be clingy and affectionate, but he would never speak to her in that lower tone, dragging the words slowly, and turning his face to the side so he could speak closer to her ear if he didn’t know what that felt like.
She knows too, and for that, she asks, “are you that drunk?”
Suna’s gaze is lazier. He pulls his chin up so he can keep his eyes half closed as he stares at her lips before she looks back at him and forces him to stare into her eyes. He doesn’t know when his leg started touching hers, or if he’s so hyper aware of his best friend now that it took that long to notice.
There’s a pause before she turns to him, and that’s enough for Suna’s hands to move without his permission and find her waist instead of the cold marble from the bar.
“Not nearly enough,” he leans closer as his hand slides down to her lower back, palm open, pulling her waist towards his, almost losing balance but steading herself once her other feet find the floor again. Suna doesn’t move when he notices his legs stretched and crossed between hers now, and standing up would lose that so he only looks up once he pulls her closer again, gathering air in his lungs to ask, “so?”
Utterly stupid, this is what Oikawa is. He has seen her this close before, has felt the way her breath ghosts over his lips when she’s surprised, mouth agape and trying to find words to say. He has seen it all, and yet, he carried on with his life as though nothing had happened.
Suna held back for years because, in the end, he knew that as soon as he sees that side, he would not be able to return. He knew that if he felt her lips on his, no other would compare. That if she ever dared to reach for him and really touch him, he’d never wish to part from it. That if that happened, it had to mean something to both of them or he would never survive what could come after.
She thinks this wasn’t working, but Suna knew types like Oikawa all too well. He knew what would work, knew this was his last attempt and that it would be a successful one. It pained him, like an anchor piercing his heart, making his stomach turn, but he figured he’d at least take advantage of it before he wasn’t allowed anymore.
Though now, he was starting to realize he was mistaken about all of that. About thinking this was the right choice and that Oikawa was the stupid one.
It happens when her hands find his neck, because of course it would. She doesn’t answer him directly, but she takes a step forward, her thigh brushing against his own, and her hand pulls him closer by his nape until their chests are touching and he has to look up to stare at her.
Just genuinely, utterly and ridiculously stupid, that’s what Suna is. So, instead of denying anymore, he accepts it and jerks his body up so he’s taller again, his hand moving her to back her up against the wall.
“I said I’d do it,” one of his hands found her neck. His eyes follow his thumb, pressing lower on her throat, and as his index finger analyzes every inch of the skin of her jaw before he reaches for her lips. “I have a reputation-” he pauses as he feels her breath hitch when he gently tugs her lower lip for a second. His eyes find hers, “to uphold.”
Suna is used to this from other people. He’s used to the surprised gasps, the pause for them to catch their breath, the wandering hands.
Suna is not used to her being in that place between him and the wall. He’s not used to hearing a laugh in a moment like this, breathless, but a low chuckle still. Not either to how she rolled her eyes, and how he could feel her lips tugging upwards by his fingertips without having to look at it.
He does, either way, but he isn’t used to not needing to. Not with her.
“You mean a bad reputation, right?” She taunts him, like always, except it feels like teasing rather than mocking. It’s new, entirely different to what he always hears from her voice, and it’s like tasting something for the first time.
Not nearly enough drunk, yes, but definitely addicted to her.
Her heart is hammering against her ribcage, however, instead of being embarrassed and pushing him away, she makes sure he feels it. Her hand finds the back of his shirt, pulls him closer, and presses her chest against his.
“That bad reputation got you here in the first place,” he leans closer, and almost loses his balance until his lower hand reaches the wall behind her, supporting himself. With the other hand, he holds her chin up, “and it’s also putting a damn good show.”
Suna realizes he’s close enough when he can see the way her jaw clenches and her teeth grits. Her hands slide down from his back, and it doesn't even give him a second to be disappointed before they find his neck. She cups his face and pulls him down.
“Is that all you want? To put on a show?” Her voice is serious, Suna swallows.
“I want whatever you want.” He answers back instantly, without thinking.
It feels overwhelming now, the way her relieved breath washes over his face combined with the way her grin splatters across her face. “Whatever I want?” she asks, pulling him closer until their lips are brushing. Her eyes close when she whispers, “damn, losing your reputation already.”
With this much anticipation, Suna would lose his patience of going slow any day.
With her, he realizes he could have all the time in the world, and it wouldn’t be enough.
He kisses her once, a quick peck, unceremoniously, “you don’t know,” he gives her another kiss, slightly slower, “what my reputation means, then.”
She giggles quietly, breath hitching again when his hold of her jaw gets tighter, she leans her head back to stare up properly at him, still smiling. “Everybody knows, Rin.”
Suna chuckles at the way she says his name, mostly to mask anything else that might slip from his lips. He takes a step forward, one leg between hers now as he holds himself from shivering by the slow brush of her hands on his neck, down his chest, until it stops just before the closed bottom of his shirt starts.
“Not in the way I’m about to show you,” he mutters, a couple words between each kiss, relenting in the way her lips opened for him.
Her body feels hot, and still, she giggles, “you’re impossible.”
She has said it before, plenty of times. It was never uttered like this, dripping with want and excitement.
“Are you always like this?” She asks between his lips when he kisses her again, gasps when his legs move slightly, and holds his gaze when she glares back at him.
More questions, again and again, and still, he answers, “not at all,” genuinely, not a sign of annoyance in his voice.
Suna isn’t a talker, especially not in moments like this, but God, if he isn’t answering every one of her remarks in order to keep going whatever they are doing. Kissing her isn’t enough, just touching her lips would never be anymore. He needed to taste her breath against his when he pushed her harder against the wall, to hear the giggle that stops midway when he moves his leg upwards, to feel her lips open as she tries to come up with something else to say.
She stops talking then, so he pulls back, and find her eyes closed. He grins and asks, “no snarky remark to that?”
He watches her slowly open her eyes, her smile growing with it, “I knew you liked it,” she chuckles more freely now that he isn’t leeching on her lips, he mirrors her.
“Like,” he repeats, scoffing, “that’s a strong word,” he says, though in reality, it doesn’t even begin to describe the truth.
This corner of the bar is darker. Her back is against the wall, but barely any light gets to her features since he’s towering above her, but she sees him. Her hands cups his face again, and she kisses his lips, “what word-” she pauses when he starts kissing down her neck, taking a deep breath before asking “-would you use, Rin?”
The music was louder in the center of the club, Oikawa definitely saw whatever was happening, the bartender made sure to walk away from them as soon as all this started. However, neither of them notice any of those or anything else the second their lips touch — much less now, Suna thinks, when his open mouth finds uncharted territory on her skin and her voice trembles the second he does.
He scoffs, “I tolerate,” he answers, whispering against her throat as he kisses down her collarbone, “I put up with it, accept it,” he lists lies, and she can feel the truth when he nibbles at her skin.
“Lies, lies, lies,” she whispers back.
Suna pulls back again, she whines quietly and opens her eyes to glare back at his stupid smile. He holds her there for a second, overthinking, before finally complying.
“He has seen enough,” he whispers, and takes a small step back until her hands latch onto his shirt again, pulling him.
“Wait, Rin,” she calls quickly, looking up at him, “I want-”
“He has seen enough,” he repeats himself, taking a step back again, pulling her as he starts striding away from the bar this time.
Suna tangles his fingers with hers as he crosses the entire club. He makes sure to walk right past Oikawa, nod at him and give a low “goodnight” as he drags her behind him, laughing, quickening her steps to catch up with him.
“Is this part of the show for him?” She sneaks her arms around his, Suna tightens his hold of her hand.
“No,” he mumbles, knocks at one door and opens it, loosening the grip around her to step inside the empty storage room. He turns the lights on, leans against the door, and stares back at her, “this one's for me.”
She stares back at him for a few seconds, crosses her arms as she watches the way her best friend now supports his entire weight against the poor doorknob he’s holding for dear life. He’s panting, as if he had run a marathon, and by the way his eyes kept looking at every single feature of her face, she would guess his mind isn’t going any slower.
Borderline begging, that’s what he’s doing. Suna, her best friend in the entire world, and crush in the last two months of this stupid agreement, is begging her as if he needed a chance to prove something. As if she was someone he had to impress, and not the girl that loved him for years now and just found new ways to do so.
She shakes her head, watches how his expression drops for a minute before she takes a step forward.
“Silly,” she whispers, hand resting against his chest as she walks towards him. Suna gives a step further into the storage room, eyes fixated on hers now, while she backs him up and closes the door behind her. “It’s for us, Rin,” she corrected, firmly, pressing harder against his chest, “so don’t act like I am someone else.”
He stares back at her for a few seconds, leans forward and whispers now closer to her lips, “I won’t,” he brushes their lips together again, she hears the door locking behind her, and then his hands travel to her lower back, tugging at the hem of her top. “Allow me?” He’s back to teasing, that familiar gentle and amused smile over his features.
Her eyes travel back to his eyes and feel his hand dancing at her waist, fingertips barely touching her skin, and still, sending a shiver down her spine.
The room is rather small, empty, and he promised himself he’d never use it as he saw other’s do in the past. It’s for desperate people that can’t keep their hands off each other but, well — for fuck’s sake, that’s exactly the position he’s in now, so that will have to do.
There’s a thought in the back of his head, about this being wrong. He isn’t supposed to go this far with their agreement, they promised not to. This isn’t how he imagined their first time either, and hell, he’s scared this will make it look like he just wants it for this night.
Utterly stupid indeed to think any of that, he realizes as soon as her smile widens. She nods in response and whispers, “and no one else.”
They have time to figure that out later.
