Prologue: Birth
Aurelius “Al” Jun Burgos was born on a friday, 13th of april, 2007. His parents named him “Aurelius” after the word aurum, which meant gold in Latin, his name meaning golden. The two parents, Jun Jungwook and Zenaida Burgos named him golden since they were so sure this child would be their golden child. They were both disappointed when they found out Aurelius would be born on Friday the 13th. In fact, his father was furious. “Golden child my ass!” He’d yell in the car on the way to the hospital, not at all trying to calm down Zenaida. Aurelius was born two months early, which his father also thought was a sign of bad luck. “He’s born early, and much less on a friday 13th!” he yelled furiously, telling Zenaida this was her fault. Zenaida kept trying to talk but couldn’t over Jungwook’s own yelling in fury.
Once they arrived at the hospital they rushed into the ER and were attended right away thanks to threats coming right and left from Jun Jungwook. After many hours of waiting, Aurelius was born at 4:20am. “Great, even more bad luck.” Jungwook muttered under his breath while Zenaida stared at Aurelius lovingly, “Might as well name him Mortis, at this point” Jungwook said with a scowl. Mortis means death in latin. It is a name with a clearly morbid meaning, suggesting a finality that may not be suitable for the child's bright future. Zenaida shook her head, “No, we’ll still call him Aurelius. You haven't even seen him, maybe he’s a beautiful boy” she spoke softly. Jungwook shook his head with a scoff and moved over to take a look at his son.
“You think I’d be proud of something that looked like that? It's already unlucky enough, now it's just plain ugly. He must’ve gotten most of your genes.”
Zenaida was hurt, but after staring at Aurelius a bit more a scowl formed on her face. “You are right. He’s ugly, we’ve truly been cursed”
Jungwook scoffed and left the room, deciding he could no longer look at the ugly baby. “Take him away.” Zenaida spoke softly. The nurses nodded and took him away to the room with the rest of the babies who had been born recently.
