Work Text:
You and Mike have only been together for a couple months. It started out heavily awkward at first— still awkward now at certain moments— but it only made him cuter in your eyes. The small, sweet moments between the both of you were always something you looked forward to.
Tonight was your first time staying the night. You were currently lying in his full-sized bed, the small mattress leading to an awkwardly cramped position. Your side was pushed up against his arm and you kept bumping his leg with your knee with every soft stir. However, Mike didn’t seem to budge. He was dead asleep. He was lying on his stomach, arms tucked under the pillow, his face smushed up on top and facing towards you. He didn’t make a single sound. His lips were slightly parted as he slept, his expression peaceful and free of worry. That was a rare sight to see.
You couldn’t stop yourself from admiring his sleeping face. the gentle curve of his nose, the faint freckles dotted across his cheeks, his soft, rosy lips. You never got to observe him this close before. Before you could stop yourself, you lean forward, resting your fingers gingerly on his cheek. Your lips meet his forehead, pressing a gentle, lingering kiss to his skin. You hope that he remains asleep. Surely he will.
You assume wrong. His eyelids slowly flutter open, squinting up at you with a dazed expression. He blinks heavily as he sluggishly processes what you were doing. It was obvious that he was still half asleep. “Mm… Hey, angel.” He croaked, his voice unusually low and rough. Your eyes widen immediately. “What’re you doin’?” He asks.
You grimace and pull your lips away at lightning speed, your fingers twitching against his cheek before retracting shortly after. You felt terrible for waking him up. He was sleeping so peacefully before. You knew it was rare for him to sleep so deep.
“Sorry, I— It’s nothing.” You whisper with a wince, eyebrows pinching together with worry. “I just— I wanted to kiss your forehead. Sorry.” You apologize softly, hoping not to wake him up even further.
He watches you with half-opened eyes, simply listening and taking time to process your words. You couldn’t even tell if he heard you properly. After a few seconds of dead silence, he breaks into a faint smile, an amused huff leaving his nose. He clicks his tongue softly before breaking the silence. “It’s fine.” He replies in a drowsy tone, taking in a deep breath to try and wake himself up more. You wanted to stop him right then and there. He wasn’t even supposed to wake up in the first place. He slowly raises a hand, rubbing his eyes with his knuckles before reaching out. His hand comes in contact with the side of your head, his thumb smoothing out the crease between your brows. “It’s fine,” he repeats softly. “Don’t worry about it. I’m not mad.”
You were dumbfounded. You had at least expected him to be a little grouchy from being abruptly woken up. You were instead met with his soft smile and tired, hazel eyes. You couldn’t help but smile softly in return. “Okay.” You whisper, nodding faintly against his palm, subtly leaning into his touch. “Just.. Go back to sleep.” You murmur, taking his wrist and pulling it away from your head. You set his palm back onto the mattress.
He whines at the loss of contact, which immediately caught you by surprise. With a soft frown, he reaches back out, instead cupping your cheek. You were tempted to pull away once more before you were met with his drowsy, pleading gaze. “C’mere.” He mumbles lazily, his hand sliding to the back of your head, fingers burying into your hair. You break into quiet laughter, obeying his command and shuffling closer. He grins down at you, rolling onto his side with a grunt and sliding his free arm under your head. “Your cheeks are all rosy.” He muses, looking down at you with the goofiest, tired grin. You huff sharply and tuck your head under his chin. A small smile spread across your face, your lips brushing against the bottom of his throat. “Shush. Go to sleep, Mike.” You grumble jokingly in return. He nods and nuzzles his nose into your hair, taking in your sweet scent. Butterflies immediately flutter in your stomach from the innocent gesture. “Mkay, baby.” He mumbles lazily against your head, his fingers slowly curling against your back. “G’night. Don’t… Don’t wake me up again.” He whispers half-jokingly, earning a scoff of a laugh from you. He presses a soft kiss to the top of your head, his eyes fluttering shut right after. He was out like a light within a minute, his arms loosely wrapped around your body and legs intertwined with your own.
