Loss.

Summary:

My dog just died minutes ago so I wrote this to cope and will not go back on any grammar or formatting mistakes and will not have this beta'd. I just need to get my raw emotions out so I had to kill Inko and make Izuku face the loss (Sorry, queen!)

Chapter 1: The TV

Chapter Text

Izuku had heard the news of a villain attack in the area near his mother's hospital where she works. A warning was buzzed to his phone, and he furrowed his eyebrows. He had been back for a break, class 1A had turned into 2A and this was the first break of the year. His mom should be coming back soon, he thought off handedly, deciding to clean up and make dinner for his mom to surprise her! He wasn't the greatest cook but he knew his mother loved curry and he could make a pretty good curry in his opinion.

So he cleaned off the counters that had piled up a bit, swept, mopped, and did his mother's bed that she didn't get the chance to do in her rush to work and hardly got to say goodbye to Izuku. Though Izuku, being the great son he is, (and also the fact he gets up super early for training so he has plenty of time helps) decided to make her a small to-go breakfast and pack her lunch up. And with that, he started on dinner. His mind wandered to that villain attack, and out of curiosity, as the curry was just simmering, he turned on the TV for some background noise.

"In lower Musutafu there is a villlain attack! It's adviced to stay away from this area until heroes..." He starts to tune out, deciding to treat himself to some fruit while he waits since he didn't have a huge lunch (even though he really should have since he should still stick on All might's training regiment.)

He tunes back in when he hears "...a woman seems to be caught and being held hostage by the villain, heroes stuck trying to figure out what to do" Izuku feels worried, deciding to peak over to see his TV to see who is caught up in this, and his heart drops when he sees a familiar form. His mother, caught in the villain's grasp, gun to her head at an angle that was sure to kill her. His own mom panicked, voice shaky and scared, "Please! I have a son I have to get home to. He's just a boy, his father isn't around, please-" His heart skipped a beat, and he turned to leave the apartment, but he's stopped when he catches something from the TV, now muffled cause the distance. Though unmistakably it's obvious it's a gunshot sound came from the TV and Izuku froze. He turns quickly, dashing back to the TV to see, and the sight is horrifying. His mother's blood all over the floor, heroes now sprung into action.

Heroes sprung into action too late. Hate and confusion and fear and sadness fill his entire body without warning, and his body feels heavy and weak, he stumbles back into the couch, deciding it's a better place then the floor, live turning off to save viewers eyes from the image but he still say it. His own mother, life taken from her. What is he supposed to do? His hands reach into his pockets, opening his contact. It pains him to see that the first contact that comes up is his mother. It was a picture of the two of them, him when he was a kid and her when she was a bit younger. "Mama". The contact said. Cause that was him mom that was his MAMA dead. It really hit him, and suddenly and uncontrollably tears started gushing from his eyes in thick globs, more then he's ever cried. More then he cried when he returned to UA or even when he saw Kacchan dead. (Did he cry? He can't remember, it happened too fast and all he really felt was rage.)

He scrolls through his contacts, trying to figure out who to call. Ochako was the second contact, but he knew Ochako was busy today helping out her parents, since he had asked to hang out earlier today. Tenya was a good, but he wasn't a very emotionally intelligent man. Of course he could relate to loss and grief, but Izuku decided otherwise. His eyes then caught on somebody. Kacchan. The boy who had almost died for him twice, actually died one of those times, and had been there his entire life. Plus he knew Inko aswell so he could share his grief, which is something he needed a lot right now.

He pressed the call button by his contact, shakily holding up the phone to his ear. Was this a good idea? Bakugo is better now but he still sorta sucks with emotions, what if he doesn't even answer? Plus Izuku doesn't feel like getting yelled at.... But before he could back out, Bakugo picked up.

"What nerd, I'm sorta-" Kacchan was interrupted by a sigh of relief that he at least answered the call. He would probably freak out if he didn't. "Kacchan..." He let out in a sob/sigh, voice exasperated and shaky. "Please come to my place.." Izuku tried to not sob, but it was getting increasingly hard with the strained voice, honestly the last thing he wanted to do right now is talk. "I need you." He heard Kirishima in the background, he wasn't sure if he heard but he could hear concern anyway. The voice was muffled and distant but he seemed to be asking questions, but Kacchan knew that Izuku wouldn't call like this if it wasn't serious, so he simply said,

"I'm coming over, Izuku." His voice tough but anyone who's known him long enough knows there's a sort of comfort in it, a sturdy comfort. Right after, he hung up, and Izuku was left, TV still on. The villain was being taken away, and his mother... pronounced dead. He saw them put her in a ambulances as a last ditch effort but that went straight through her skull, there was no chance of survival for a steady shot like that, right next to her skull. So all he could do is sob and sob, knowing soon his house phone will ring giving news of death. His sobs were thick and heavy, shaking his whole body along.

Soon Kacchan came, door unlocked since Izuku was gonna leave earlier, he just opened it on his own, practically having it fly off it's hinges, closing it behind him and quickly kicking off his shoes, he turned for the bedroom door but he heard a thick sob from the living room and when he saw the shaking Izuku. He was so cold, still in shorts and a t-shirt. It was warm out but he still felt so cold.

"Izuku." Kacchan let out a breath, and he looked at the TV and he understood, and the TV reporter talked about some villain, and then an image of auntie came up and Kacchan understood. He sat down besides Izuku, as he sobbed, and all he could do was hold him. He brought him in and Izuku practically collapsed, legs up on the couch and laying in Katsuki's lap, grabbing onto his arm for dear life as he sobbed and sobbed, he mumbled out words "Mama... my mama..." he sobbed, "what am I supposed to do..."

when Izuku adjusted and saw Kacchan's face he could see his tears, not as thick as him but still ever so present. Izuku knew better then to say anything, cause he knew Kacchan. So he just buried himself deeper into Katsuki's hold. He felt his arm move and the TV turn off but all he did was lay there. And it was like that for awhile, sobbing thick, probably getting snot on Katsuki's hoodie but he didn't seem to care. "I'm so cold.." Izuku mumbled, tears still falling but not in sobs anymore, he felt his whole body tired from how much emotion was coating his body, he felt his dry lips and his stuffed nose. Kacchan adjusts, and slips his hoodie off, putting it onto Izuku, neither of them said anything, just going through the motions.

"It's covered in your gross nerd snot anyway." Kacchan didn't let emotion seep into his voice, but it was still quieter then before. That got a snicker out of him, and still laying against him he very weakly headbutted him, just lifting his head a few inches away before dropping back down. He still felt soul crushingly devestated, and he'll probably start sobbing again very soon, but for now he can just ignore that for a moment, at least until he remembered.

"Can you go take the curry off the stove?" Izuku mumbled, rubbing his eyes against Kacchan's shirt, voice very quiet and strained and probably trying not to cry.

"Yeah. I can do that." Kacchan said, gently adjusted to not bother Izuku, sliding a pillow under his head and putting the All might blanket his mother got him when he was young over him. Izuku pulled in on himself, and Kacchan said "I'll be right back." He left to go to the kitchen, and as he hears the clicks of the stove and the gentle movements he can't help but think of when his mother would cook warm, comforting meals and couldn't help but cry again, a lot more silent and not as heavy this time but still there. The grief was weighing down on his body, and before he knew it he fell asleep.

Eventually, he was woken up, a delicious smell on the coffee table in front of him. "I remade the rice and added a few more ingredients." Katsuki explained, voice not harsh but not as quiet as before, which Izuku was fine with.

Izuku slowly raised, blanket over his shoulders. His eyes were still red and eyebags were formed under, a tired expression on his face, very contrast to his usual attitude, almost reminiscent of his time as a vigilante. It pained Katsuki to see Izuku like this, but he would never say so. "Thank you, Kacchan." Izuku wiped his mouth, he must've drooled a bit. Embarrassing but what about this WASN'T embarrassing. Izuku grabbed the chopsticks and the shallow bowl, placing it in his lap before starting to eat, and as he was, tears started to fall. It reminded him of the time in his first year, when all his friends got together and gave him a bit of their food while he was crying.

He really likes moments like that.

Kacchan reached out, he was never good with comforting since he never had to. (Never really got comforted either.) "...You'll be okay." Katsuki said hesitantly. Usually that term would be mocking from anyone else, but he understood what Kacchan meant. That everything's gonna be okay and get better. Though admittedly, he did chuckle. "Not the best wording, Kacchan." Izuku teased, which riled up Kacchan.

"OH WHATEVER NERD. God forbid I try and comfort you." he throws his arms up in annoyance, crossing them with a look of anger on his face, and that got a louder laugh out of Izuku, before quickly devolving into giggles, mildly cause he felt a little loopy and tired, like how you feel after pulling an all nights, but partially cause he knew, despite Kacchan's tone, he was trying to cheer Izuku up. And it worked. Izuku finished his meal. "Thank you." He said again, placing the food down and flopping back against Kacchan.

Kacchan didn't say anything, just turning on the TV and opening Netflix, turning on the All Might movie silently. It was always a good watch, it was definitely for kids and pretty much had no emotion or substance to it but they didn't need that right now, they just need something lighthearted.

And for just a moment, despite knowing he'll have to grieve soon, that he'll be the one to have to plan his mother's funeral, that he doesn't have any family to take care of him now, he can just relax, if only for just a moment and lean again the person he knows will always be there in his corner, even though it might not seem obvious to most.

Notes:

I might make a second chapter where Izuku gets the call, and meets his aunt!?? Woah family drama.
