Chapter Text
It had been a couple of years since the Mother Paula's incident. After a while, everything had blown over, and the town had gone back to normal, as if nothing had ever happened.
Every once in a while, Mullet would visit me and Beatrice. Sometimes the both of us, but sometimes it was just me, or just Beatrice.
Though it wasn't often that he would visit, his appearance had been growing more and more frequent. I wondered if something was up, but didn't get any answers when I asked. His last visit was 5 days ago, last Sunday.
I was at school in Mr. Ryan's class. Last period of the day. Garrett sat next to me, per usual. We were closer by now, though not as close as I was with Beatrice or Mullet.
"Guess what" Garrett turned to me.
"What?" I asked expectantly
"No you gotta guess"
"You finally got a life?" I teased
"Oh screw you" Garrett responded, rolling his eyes "I'm going to Colorado this weekend. Gonna see my grandparents"
"Fun" I commented "so no skateboarding this weekend, I assume" after being friends with Garrett for a while, I had become accustomed to it. I actually knew how to do it pretty well.
"Nope, I'll be busy climbing mountains," he gloated, leaning back in his chair.
I nodded absent-mindedly, thinking more about what I'd be doing this weekend myself. Probably just a whole lot of nothing. I could go to Beatrice's house, or she could go to mine, or I could go out to the river. I got lost in thought.
Mr. Ryan cleared his throat, starting the lesson. I didn't pay attention to a single word of it. How could I? It was the last class of the day on a Friday, and I had other things on my mind.
So I just sat there and zoned out 'til class was over.
