I don't think it's stupid

Summary:

Sarah Hatoff is always lonely on Valentine's day especially when all her friends are too busy being with there lovers, but maybe this year will be different!

Notes:

I saw how there's like only 3 Sarah x Yolay fics and I thought that should be considered problematic so I had to do it myself

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Chief and Nurse lady walked together, hands interlocked, both their rings tapping against each other. It was Valentine's day, a day where each couple could celebrate each other and their love. Almost everyone had their own Valentine platonic or romantic, everyone had someone else they could rely on.

Except for Sarah Hatoff, the world's greatest reporter.

Of course she had friends, but most of them already had their own Valentines, which left Sarah with no one.

Chief noticed Sarah sitting alone on a park bench petting her dog, Zuzu and decided to call out to her, "Hey Sarah! Happy Valentine's!"

"Hi Chief and Nurse Lady! How are your two Valentine's days going?"

"Oh it's supa great! Chief got me some chocolate and flowers 'n everything, and I got him his flu shot!" Nurse lady returned.

Chief had an uncertain look on his face when he replied with a simple, "Ow."

Nurse lady and chief walked away and giggled before Chief had a light bulb go off in his head, and he turned his head back around to Sarah.

"I almost forgot to ask! Do you have yourself a... Special someone? You know-a Valentine?" Chief asked with a wink.

Sarah awkwardly looked in both directions, before coming up with a way to avoid the question, "look Chief! Evil mayor's back!" Sarah shouted pointing up to a nearby building.

"EVIL MAYOR!? WHERE? WHERE!?"
Chief frantically looked around before noticing that Sarah had seemingly run off.

After running for about 4 minutes, Sarah reached the door to her house. When she walked inside she was greeted by a letter that was put through her mail chute on the floor with a rose poorly attached to it. Sarah confusingly picked up the letter and ripped it open.

"Dear Sarah Hatoff

Roses are red, violets are blue, this is really stupid (sorry for swearing) but I love you.

Love, your secret admirer"

Sarah set the letter down, and tried to cover up the fact that she was a flustered mess, even though there was no one around she had to hide it from. She stood up while picking up the red rose that was attached to the letter, examining it.

Mumbling to herself, "Now, who could have left this here?"

Her train of thought was cut off from her landline phone starting to ring, once she picked it up she realized it was a frantic call from her news reporting crew.

"Sarah! Sarah! Are you there?"

"Yes, I'm here. What's wrong?"

"Oh nothing, I just wanted to get your attention. We’re having a Party later tonight at my place, bring you special someone!"

Sarah then got hung up on, she placed her phone back up on her wall and sat back down on her seat, why did it seem like everyone expected her to have a Valentine?

Zuzu could tell that Sarah was upset, and jumped up onto her lap.

"Oh Zuzu, you're a girl's best friend."

A few minutes later Sarah stood up to go get ready, she had an important meeting with her good friend, Yolay Caprese, The world's greatest actress. They were both planning on making a newspaper article about Yolays Newest Acting gig.

She grabbed her bag and lured Zuzu into her bag with a treat. Just before she was about to leave she remembered the letter, she quickly ran back inside to go and hide it because she didn't want anyone finding it. She desperately looked for a place to hide it, her first idea was under her pillow, but she thought that was too obvious. She also thought about her drawer too, but she turned down the idea with the exact same reasoning she turned down the first. Her last idea was perfect, right under the potted plant by her door. The place was so perfect, yet so stupid Sarah was even questioning why she wanted to hide the note in the first place.

Sarah then finally left her house. While on her way to Yolay's house, she passed by a few stores. Each displaying hearts, chocolates, flowers, and love. Each store with a Valentine's Day theme kept reminding her of her loneliness. Usually she never cared for stuff like this, but this year was different. Maybe it was because Dogman out of all people was able to get his own Valentine, or maybe there was a completely unrelated reason that Sarah wasn't aware of.

Once Sarah finally reached Yolay's house she nervously knocked on her door, eagerly waiting for the door to open, but something was off, why was she so nervous? She was Just seeing her friend Yolay? A few seconds later the door swung open.

Yolay was standing on her welcome mat while sipping some sparkling water as she realized it was Sarah at her door,
"Oh it's you Sarah! Hi!"

"Uh, Yo!..lay don't know where I was going with that."

The two stood in awkward silence until Yolay grabbed Sarah's arm and pulled her inside.

Sarah rubbed her eye, "Woah, what was that for?"

"Oh I just couldn't stand the awkwardness, I'm sorry, anyway how about we get down to business!"

For the next hour the two spent their time planning and writing the news article, in between of the planning there were some jokes, compliments, and critiques being told to each other.

When there were finished, Sarah grabbed all her things and stuffed them all into her bag.

Just as she waved her goodbyes to Yolay and was about to leave, she felt a tap on her shoulder.

"Hey uhm, Sarah?"

"Yes Yolay?"

"Uhm, Happy Valentine's day?"

Yolay had an uncharismatic nervous look on her face, "uh, did you receive any mail today?"

"Yeah?" Sarah paused, "How did you know?"

Yolay fidgeted with her hands, which was extremely uncommon for the usually confident girl, "Uhm, happy Valentine's day?" She looked down, "look Sarah, the truth is that, I love you. Yeah that's it you can go now. Bye bye!" Yolay started to shuffle Sarah out the door, before She was able to shut the door on Sarah, the News reporter put her hand on the door.

"Yolay?" The girl pushed past the door, locking eyes with Yolay.

Yolay tried to close the door on the reporter's face but she eventually gave up and used her hands to cover her face, "Oh yeah, sorry. That note was stupid and I didn't know what to do so-"

"I didn't think it was stupid." The reporter interrupted, "I thought it was sweet if you ignore the fact that you make have surprisingly love self confidence in love,"
Sarah paused for a moment just to make sure her comment didn't offend Yolay too much, "But who am I to speak on that. I couldn't even tell anyone that I didn't have a Valentine in the first place!"

Sarah tried to ignore that her face was on fire and that she probably looked like a red frog that ate one too many spicy peppers.

The actress took a deep breath, "Look Sarah, if you don't feel the same way, that's fine! Cool actually, but I-"

"AHHH!! I can't take it anymore!!!!" Sarah interrupted once more as she pulled Yolay in for a kiss.

Yolay could taste Sarah's weird strawberry lipgloss and Sarah was able to taste the weird sticky lipstick Yolay wore.

After Sarah and Yolay separated, Sarah had a speech that she would like to have been pre made but sadly it was all improvised, "Oh my gosh! Yolay! You're like the coolest, and most supa person I have ever met, anyone would be lucky to have you as a girlfriend, and I would like to ask you if I could have that honor?"

"Sure ragazza!"

"I have another question, would you like to come to my News reporting group's Valentine's day party? Y'know, so I'm not a no show?"

Yolay started to laugh a little, "Yeah I think everyone would be surprised for me to be there! It could be like a surprise!"

"Oh I'm not sure if they would be THAT surprised"

Once the two reached the party, they were welcomed in, which gave Sarah a chance to introduce her Valentine, there were some congratulations, and some people who weren't surprised at all.
Sarah and Yolay recognized most of the people, but some people didn't know at all, but that was ok. They had each other. Yolay started to feel quite festive for Valentine's day so she gave her new girlfriend a little peck on the cheek.

One of the people they did recognize was Chief, who was sitting on a nearby couch with his wife, pointing at Sarah and Yolay, "Oh they are so cute! Lesbians, am I right? Hah! I'm such an ally!!"

"Ok I'm going to need you to stop now," Nurse lady replied with a concerned look on her face.

Notes:

Can you tell I can't write kissing or no .....

(Also let's ignore that I actually hc Chief as bisexual )
