Sleep Aid | MEOWDAS X SUNSPOT FORTNITE ONESHOT

Summary:

Sunspot asked why he was still up. It was… 02:43, after all. Meowdas didn’t say anything. He wasn’t much of a talker.

Sunspot had learned to read his facial expressions, and over time even the slightest change on his face could lead an entire conversation.

A moment or two later, the glowing star realized their friend must have had trouble sleeping.

Work Text:

It was such a stupid matter, really. It’s not like he could control it either. He just… his mind. It was always moving, always thinking. He was forever dreaming about his next move, considering all the possible outcomes and then solutions to each one.

Sometimes it was like he couldn’t think at all- his brain so cluttered it was impossible to get even a single thought out.

No wonder he couldn’t sleep.

Meowdas was resting his eyes, though he was far from asleep.

He was presently mentally preparing himself for the morning to come, when he would be tasked with something certainly minuscule and not at all important or difficult to do. But knowing him, he was overthinking every single possibility.

…But it’s not like he didn’t at least try to enter the realm of unconsciousness. He would be lying if he said he didn’t.

So, even despite his current failed attempts, he tried thinking of other things- like the reading he conducted earlier in the day titled The four Abecedarian Types of Biotechnology- but it didn’t do very good for his ability to slow down.

Eventually, Meowdas found himself leaving the warmth of his bed and started looking around for his friend. They always knew how to help him.

He walked out of his room and into a small study a few rooms over and found his good friend Sunspot reading silently to themselves. They noticed the buff cat-man entering the study, sound of the door opening and creaking of the floorboards giving it away. They smiled softly when he entered, looking up at the tall kitty-cat.

Sunspot asked why he was still up. It was… 02:43, after all. Meowdas didn’t say anything.

He wasn’t much of a talker.

Sunspot had learned to read his facial expressions, and over time even the slightest change to his face could lead an entire conversation. A moment or two later, the glowing star realized their friend must have had trouble sleeping. It would explain why he was up, after all. He had class at 08:00, and his major was tough.

They nodded their head in the realization and stood up from where they sat comfortable on a spiny-chair.

Sunspot moved their much smaller figure over to a bookshelf to the side of the room and started going through it.

Meowdas, telling himself he would read so he wasn’t bored, walked to the bookshelf as well. He reached for a continuation of The four Abecedarian Types of Biotechnology, but his hand was very rudely slapped away from those types of literature. He looked at his companion, neutral face and all. It wasn’t able to hide his true feelings though. Sunspot giggled and told him to go back to his bed, and that they would bring him a book of their choice.

With Meowdas now in his room, Sunspot got free range of the shelf. They knew that the poor cat of gold always struggled with sleep.

Fortunately, they knew just how to fix it. Sunspot pulled out a fantasy book and bruhed it over. A light novel, it was. …And Meowdas hated them. He was always a realist; and he forever appreciated what could be proven with reality. He was never one for fantasy books, certainly.

…But that’s why he needed it.

Meowdas needed something he found absolutely no interest in. He needed something he could turn his brain off to and drift away with. A light novel would do exactly that. So, with said text in hand, the glowing sun made their way to Meowdas’ room, sitting down at his desk beside his bed, and reading the novel in a smooth and calming voice.

It always worked.
