Work Text:
Felicity sat at her desk in IT at the end of the workday. She was completing some common, and boring, department requests. Doing this kind of work was rote to her, and her mind began wander.
She was happy she had moved to Starling, but it didn’t expand her life in the way she had hoped. Friends hadn’t been easy to come by and work wasn’t much better. The job was mainly boring and her boss was an ass. When she worked on something more difficult and succeeded, he took the credit. It was all the more frustrating because he wasn’t as capable with code as she was.
Her coworkers came to her often for help, but then seemed to resent her because she knew more than they did. It hadn’t been a great few months.
Mostly, Felicity could handle herself and make her own way in life, but just this once, she wished someone would be a hero to her, someone to swoop in and point her in the right direction.
The only interesting thing in her life was the CEO’s stepson coming by for help with various tasks. Oliver Queen was lying about why he needed help and she was pretty sure he was aware she didn’t believe his convoluted back stories. But he kept asking for help and she kept helping him. For some reason, she trusted him, and, by extension, his friend Diggle.
Over the last month or so, she had become more suspicious. Not about Mr. Queen’s motives, but about why he needed the information and who or what he truly was. CIA? FBI? Someone else? Something else?
Felicity sighed and began to pack up her belongings. She walked to her car, slid in behind the wheel and started the ignition. As she put the car in reverse, she turned to make sure no one was behind her. Something caught her eye and she looked down to see the Vigilante in her back seat. He was huge and intimidating, but she wasn’t frightened. How was he even fitting in her car? Then she noticed the blood. The Vigilante pulled down his hood and looked her in the eyes. Oliver Queen was bleeding out in her back seat.
Later, after she had showered and climbed into bed, Felicity replayed the events of the past few hours. She realized that a hero had indeed dropped into her life and pointed her in the right direction, even if it was temporary. Just about to drift off, she suddenly sat up, recognizing something important. Tonight, she had been a hero, too.
