Chapter 1: Mini-fic version

Chapter Text

It hurt like a kick in the face, a knife in the back.

He had trusted them, only to be left behind and abandoned. Left alone in the palace. Although he wasn’t truly alone, he had the very few followers who had decided to stay, still strewn out all over the floor, curled up, resting.

He wouldn’t wake them yet, instead he focused on himself.

Alfgram had laid there under him only a few hours ago, willingly allowing shapes to be carved into skin upon an altar. Skys would be lying if he said he couldn’t still feel him in some way, one way more pleasant, feeding into skys’ desire for control of someone, something- the other way much more painful, searing.

Skys kicks a stone as he walks to the door outside, wedged open ever so slightly from the escape.
The rain from the sky is freezing, much like the snow that surrounds the building itself. He sighs and closes his eyes, lets the air chill him to his core before he returns inside. Ignoring the chill of snow that melts and runs down his cheeks.

He wakes his followers, calls them all to gather and explains.

Rage fuels him, yet the more he thinks on it, the more it begins to unravel. The petals falling away to reveal fruit, fruit of sadness, fruit which he frantically wraps back up within the petals, holding them shut and refusing to see the truth.

He’s more content in his anger. He’d been content in his misery for too long, he wasn’t going to let it eat away at him, not this time.
He would destroy what he loved, tear it to shreds. Get rid of the problem once it had started.

But even then, what did that ever bring than more misery?
