Chapter Text
“Question: Do you trust me?”
“Not 100 percent, no.”
Jane turned his head as she answered. He had feared she would say that. Not that she had every reason to. Even though he likes to pretend that he can get away with anything he does when investigating and lets his charme win if it gets difficult with his supervisors, he knows he betrayed her trust in him more than once. And he knows that it is not fair. But he also knows that it is necessary for his crime-solving methods. He needs to deceive people, even his coworkers, even his friends, for his schemes to work. And he knows that he has not only betrayed Lisbon’s trust in the past but also endangered her job and life.
And while he knows all this, he had still hoped she would say Yes.
In an attempt to hide the ache that her answer caused, he asked her a different question, left her alone in the car and, instead of trying to earn her full trust, keeps playing games and tricks people into revealing themselves.
