Work Text:
Stormwind listen to the wind that brush against his boat; the call for home itching within her sails and the screams for the open sky rages within his bones. He couldn’t help over looking Hyrule from above and wonder just how small they really are in this world. Beings who are allowed to remain but casted aside by the Goddesses due to some Calamity that has yet to come.
“You think to much,” Ganondorf said while handing Stormwind a drink. “Come, we’re drinking in honor of Rauru and Sonia tonight.”
Stormwind glance back to see the rest of their friends sitting around a campfire; each of them drinking and having fun and filling the air with chatter. He had decided to stand away from the group; needing a moment to think over things. His mother had brought their crew to this place for a better life, a new life that the winds couldn’t give them.
He wants to do right by her but Stormwind isn’t sure how to do that.
“Storm!” Wellspring shouts, waving him over. “Come sit before you catch a cold.”
Stormwind roll his eyes but follow her command anyways; taking a seat in between Wellspring and Ganondorf. Across from them is Sonia, Mineru, and Gorondia discussing trades or something else that Stormwind couldn’t quite hear. Wellspring had turned to Rauru and went straight back into their conversation of legends between worlds.
“Still thinking to much, Stormy.” Ganondorf throw an arm around Stormwind’s shoulders. “What’s on your mind that’s been plaguing you?”
“A dream,” Stormwind said. He thought he said it quietly enough but everyone had heard him. For a moment, he wanted to keep his quiet but instead managed to find the words. “There’s a family who I never saw before. They all know who I am but I have no idea who they were.” Each one looks towards him like a part of the family; not a pirate or Sage or a failing Chief. They look at him as if he’s just important as the wind beneath their wings. “And I would very much like to know who they are.”
“You know, they say dreams are glimpses of the future.” Mural takes a sit next to her brother while handing him a glass of water; giving a pointed look when Ganondorf tried to refuse it. “I had one about this girl who sits upon a throne alone, far to young to lead but she does her best.”
Ganondorf hums in agreement; “I had one similar to that.”
The others chimed in with their own dreams of people that they had seen. Stormwind takes a stand and went back to the edge of the boat; looking over Habra. That family weren’t from this time but they knew of him…when they look towards him, there’s a kindness and a knowing that Stormwind couldn’t help wondering what it could mean.
Behind him the campfire continues to burn while Stormwind becomes lost to the winds; wondering why he was shown a future that will never come true.
…
The winds howl and brush against the boat but Stormwind was nowhere to be found as he’s to busy being marry around the campfire. Teba and Harth have taken up a spot next to him while Link sits on the other side; just listening to the conversation taking place around him. Saki and Amelia sit across from them with the kids playing around the deck behind them.
Kass had taken up playing music with his girls sometimes jumping in with a song or two.
Stormwind notice that there’s a familiarity with the scene happening around him; one just like those dreams from years ago. Guess some dreams do come true. He hopes that the other Sages are having their dreams come true too wherever they are.
He pats Link on the shoulder before going to the ledge to overlook Hyrule; a place so different from the world before. It feels lived in and homely like every inch of this place is loved from the inside out. And it is because The Champions – both Future and Past – had made sure that it is, along with the people of Hyrule.
Down below, Stormwind could pinpoint each of the Divine Beasts that had came out of hiding and taken up position in protecting their homes once more.
“Everything alright, Storm?” Teba ask from the campfire.
“Everything just fine.”
Before him, the campfire continues to burn while Stormwind finally found his way home.
