Chapter Text

Daughter of the Siren Queen/ Daughter of the Pirate King

Chapter 1- Drawing the pen to battle

One of the worst things a pirate could face isn’t the tough seas that turn even the strongest ships upside down nor the lack of wind which slowly ends the speed of the ship but in this mission, it could lead to all of all those I loved slowly tortured by my father, while I’ll be forced to watch them die one by one. I shiver ran through my spine as I remembered why I was actually at sea. Being a pirate has its ups and downs like many enjoyable things but I’ve always known that I can easily defeat anyone at sea. I’ve killed men three times as big as me; I’m fast, I’m strong…but to go against my father…the most feared man of the sea better yet, the man who taught me everything I know how to do today? The pen lightly dipped into the black ink before being lifted and placed onto the parchment paper as I wrote. “If only I could write as well as I could draw my sword” I faintly mutter between my teeth. The pen flowed smoothly on the page, the ink immediately splashing the page if I gripped the pen too harshly or if I didn’t rotate my wrist in the right spots. Although my father was more than passionate in making me a killer weapon of his own, he didn’t seem so keen on the idea of me being literate, not daring to not teach me such a thing because, “there’s no use of teaching so if it doesn’t help slaughter any men you face” or whatever he usually shot back at me in response. The pen dipped into the bottle of ink once more but left there as I pondered quietly on the cushioned stool. A simple sigh could be heard from me before I slumped onto the bed face first, the soft cushions providing an ounce of comfort against all the fear mongering and tensity that’s consumed my thoughts recently. I could feel the water gently pushing the boat to our destination, her soothing movements like a rocking chair. It’s very queer how something so dangerous and intimidating could shift to something so gentle and soothing but in many ways, I relate to it no matter how many times I try to ignore that part of myself. Maybe that was why I loved her so much; the way she could both rock the ships on her gently, but always manages to keep you on your toes.
“Alosha”, someone's hand gently knocked at the door. I could immediately tell who it was from his soft and soothing voice; Rider. His knocks are loud enough for me to hear yet faint enough to not wake anyone else on the ship.”May I come in?”I knew he meant well but it was enough for me to remember I was on the run again, fleeting away from the most fearful man of the seas…my own blood. I can immediately feel my body go back to an unrelaxed state, my previously melted body feeling stiff once more. I eventually found myself getting up, the candle I held up feeling warm on the tips of my fingers and my face. “Come in” I muttered slightly more meaner than I intended. My free hand went up to open the door but it seemed like he beat me to it. His eyes looked energized as if it wasn’t late at night, his day clothes still on, contrasting against my nightgown.
“...Yes?” I grumbled. He held his usual grin, a faint light of the candle showing his face. I’d smack him if it weren’t for his charm.
“Did I interrupt something?”
“Well first off, yes. Secondly, why are you even up this late?”
“I think we both know it doesn’t matter why I'm up this late. Anywho… I needed to chat about something but I see you're a bit busy. See you A-”
He turned off before I interrupted him, my voice seeming a bit faster and panicked than I intended it to sound. “Wait!” After a quiet pause between us, his body stopped walking, his face slowly turning back to me with his little satisfied yet soft and polite grin. I opened the door a bit wider so he could walk in. I didn’t need to read his brain to know he felt happy; I could sense the warm yellow aura around him a mile away. He happily walked in, seeming the happiest he’s ever been when coming with me on this voyage. I wonder what he wants from me.
He sat almost nervously onto my bed, the covers still nice and tidy like it was the morning of. I haven’t gotten much use from my bed recently and it looked like he knew that as well. There was a silence between us as we stared quietly at each other, that emptiness feeling like a dagger against me. I wished it was so simple to fill that little second of silence, that void which was typically filled with fighting pirates or trying to drive on the sea which was now replaced with peace; something that felt so rare in the past few days. The mood changed from when he invited himself in when to when we silently looked at each other for a brief second. We could both sense it. He smiled again like he didn’t just change his mood once more but despite that, his smile felt like a gasp of fresh air. I crossed my arms, my eyes staring at his as I tried my hardest to not use my power and feel how he felt deep down.”You’re not so busy are you~” He teased, his eyes slightly squinting from excitement.
“Well, not anymore I…suppose?”
“What were you doing then if you don’t mind me asking”
“I was…”
I pause feeling a faint warmth in my cheeks now. I couldn’t just tell him that I was trying to teach myself to write, especially given how I strongly remember his own corridors in the ship both him and his brother ran. The intricate maps and letters which I destroyed during my imprisonment there -deserved for sure- but I couldn't help but wonder how old they were let alone how long it took to write them all individually. My thoughts were quickly interrupted as I saw his eyes trail over to my desk, revealing my crumpled up paper balls and not-yet crumbled letters of poor penmanship. I could feel my body rushing to cover up the embarrassment of letters I tried to make but even with him seeing the poor excuse of a letter, he seemed to let out a cheesy smile, his hand gently pushing me to the side so he could see.”So this is what you’ve been busy with hmm?” He murmured to himself as he picked up my newest failure, the ink explosion on the page clear I had no clue what I was doing.”...They’re not bad but I could always teach a lesson or two if you wish” I could tell he was lying when he said they weren’t bad but his offer made my head shoot back at him in surprise. “Really?” I responded sounding a bit dumbfounded more than I wanted.
“Yeah of course, I owe you”
“Owe…me?”
“Well uh…yeah I mean- That’s why I wanted to see you in the first place”
He sat on my little stool, his hand grabbing the pen and inspecting it quietly. I sat next to him, my seat being the edge of the bed. I could feel the silence looming again so I spoke once more,” So uh…Why did you come here in the first place?” He kept inspecting the pen before his eye locked in with mine, his smile a lot more gentler and kinder than I’ve really ever seen it before.”I wanted to say thank you, you know for letting my brother free. I understand that it took a lot of control to have him free, let alone not kill him on the spot”
“Well…wasn’t that part of our agreement?”
“ I still hold my gratitude very strongly Alosa, I mean it.”
My body warmed up slightly before he continued,” I want to apologize- I think I was a bit harsher than what was necessary. I want to make it up to you” He tossed the pen back at me as I grabbed it in the air without error. “Let’s teach you how to write now, shall we?”
