Chapter Text
Silco was preparing for his first day at Hogwarts, which meant he was putting on makeup to look more elegant, so no one would make comments about him being a Muggle-born. He also didn't want anyone to know that he was an orphan.
The headmistress of the orphanage sent her assistant to accompany him, but the woman kept complaining non-stop because he was taking too long.
"Why are you even wearing makeup? Aren't you a man?" the woman asked.
Silco just ignored whatever comment she made, applying some mascara and eyeliner, and fixing his eyebrow shape with some eyeshadow.
"I'm done," he said curtly when he finished.
The woman sighed in exasperation, murmured "It's about time…" and took him by the arm, not before handing him his luggage.
She took him in a taxi to the train station. When they arrived, Silco didn't bother to say goodbye and just entered Platform 9¾ as he had been taught. He then boarded the train without stopping to look around, finding an empty compartment.
He entered, confident that no one, no one in their right mind at least, would enter the same compartment as him.
He sighed as he let himself fall into his seat. Finally, peace of mind.
At that moment, the door opened, revealing a smiling girl with two braids.
"Oops! Sorry, is it occupied?" the girl asked.
"Yes," Silco replied coldly.
"Hmm... doesn't seem like it," the girl said, entering and sitting next to Silco.
"Weren't you taught to accept a 'no' for an answer?" he muttered.
"Yep, but I was also taught not to leave bitter people alone," she said, smiling.
Silco rolled his eyes.
"I didn't ask for your company, nor your pity."
The girl laughed.
"I'm Felicia. You look like... something with an F..."
"Silco, my name's Silco, and if you want to stay alone so much, do it in silence."
Felicia, amused, pretended to zip her mouth shut.
After a few minutes, Felicia, apparently, couldn’t stop laughing.
"Sorry, I just remembered something funny," she said between giggles.
After a few minutes, the girl kept staring at him, silently, with squinted eyes as if trying to figure something out.
Silco sighed.
"When are you planning to leave?"
"Never!" Felicia said, laughing.
Silco sighed as Felicia kept laughing.
After a long journey in silence, with the occasional laugh from Felicia, Silco and she got ready to get off at the final stop: Hogwarts.
Before getting off, Felicia stopped him by grabbing his sleeve. Silco wanted to glare at her, but she seemed more serious this time, so he decided to listen.
"Hey... I’m... sorry if I'm being too annoying, everything is so new to me, I'm a Muggle-born, and... well, sorry if I bothered you. Thanks for keeping me company," the girl said, with her gaze for the first time showing vulnerability.
Silco stared at her, and for a moment, something changed in him. The air became less tense, more... understanding, and he sighed.
"It's fine..." he said, turning fully to face her. "I'm also new to this magic thing."
Felicia's eyes lit up.
"Really? But you look so elegant! I thought you'd be one of those 'Purebloods' they mentioned to me before coming."
"Eh, yeah... the idea was for no one to know, but I guess it's okay that you know..." Silco said, giving a slight smile that he tried to hide, but it didn't go unnoticed by Felicia.
"Got it! I won’t tell anyone!" Felicia exclaimed.
"Well, Felicia, I guess I'll keep an eye on you to make sure..." Silco told her.
"Does that mean we're friends?"
"I never said that..."
Felicia's eyes lit up, and she smiled.
"We are!"
"I didn't say that!" Silco said in an exasperated yet amused tone.
And so, the two got off the train, debating whether they were friends or not.
When they got off, they bumped into a tall, buffy guy and a chubby one.
"Hi!" Felicia greeted.
Silco glared at her. What if they were troublemakers? They looked like they could kill them... Or even worse, what if they were Purebloods?
"Hi!" greeted the taller one kindly. "I think I’ve seen you before at the station..." he murmured thoughtfully.
"Hum, I don’t know, but what are your names?" she asked.
"My name is Vander Wick."
"I’m Benzo Ironhart, and you guys?"
"Felicia Starling! And this grump probably won’t speak, so, he’s Silco."
Vander and Benzo laughed as Silco glared at her.
"By the way, are you a Muggle-born?" Benzo asked.
Felicia laughed.
"Can you tell?"
"Well, not much, you don’t have a sign on your head that says 'I’m a Muggle-born,'" Vander laughed.
"And you guys? Are you Purebloods?" Felicia asked.
"No, we're half-bloods," Vander said. Then he looked at Silco. "What about you?"
Silco furrowed his brow, glaring at him. And Vander just smiled.
Benzo and Vander accompanied them on the boats to Hogwarts, chatting with Felicia, who occasionally tried to include Silco in the conversation.
Thus began their first year.
When they arrived at the Great Hall, Silco didn’t expect much.
"Wow! It's huge!" Felicia exclaimed. "Vander, Silco, Benzo! Don’t you think it’s amazing?"
“Yeah! It definitely is more amazing in person!” Vander exclaimed.
“So, uh… What’s next?” Felicia asked, as everyone stopped in front of a hat.
“The house sorting.” Silco answered her.
“So you do talk!” Vander exclaimed. Silco couldn’t care less, but Felicia and Benzo laughed.
After that, the selection started. Some kids passed, but, from the group, Silco was the first to pass. “Good luck!” Felicia whispered, giving him thumbs up, and Silco, not knowing why, smiled.
“Ah, a curious one… A mix of ambition and pride, but also a shadow of bitterness. Hmmm... Slytherin might suit you well.” The sorting hat mentally mumbled.
“Slytherin? Not that I care, but I don’t wanna be around those purebloods…” Silco thought.
“Hmm… With your intelligence… You might just fit... Ravenclaw.”
“Ravenclaw?” Silco thought.
“It’s decided, you must be a…”
“RAVENCLAW.” The sorting hat exclaimed.
Felicia, Vander and Benzo cheered, mostly Felicia, but Vander didn’t lose by much. Benzo could be the one that wasn’t cheering that much. And even so, he still did it.
When Silco got down from the seat, he looked at Felicia, seeing her and Vander looking at him.
Why was that Vander guy cheering for him so much? They barely knew each other… Oh no, maybe he was also a social butterfly?
He had enough with having one friend —Even though him and Felicia WEREN’T friends.— Who was outgoing and social, he did not need two, even less three.
After some more people, the next of the group in passing to the sorting hat was Benzo, the guy got sorted pretty quickly into Hufflepuff.
Then, it came to Felicia’s turn. Silco hoped she would turn out to be from his house, and fucking finally she did. But with three minutes of wait.
“Hey, Silco!” Felicia ran to sit down next to him, resting her head on his shoulder as she groaned. “Why didn’t anyone tell me there was going to be a mental conversation!? That was so weird!” She exclaimed, and Silco couldn’t help but laugh even though he had stiffened up slightly at the physical touch.
Finally… It was only Vander left. Why did he even care?
Well… don’t ask why, but he did.
And so, when Vander got into Hufflepuff and Felicia cheered, he clapped softly while looking at him.
Then, in a swift motion, blue eyes met grey ones, and Silco looked away.
This was going to be an interesting year.
