Work Text:

“I love you, Victor.” Emily said, her loving gaze saddening as she squeezed Victor’s hand. “But you’re not mine.”

Reaching out to Victoria, she took her hand and placed it in his, before stepping back. “I was a bride. But my dreams were taken from me. And now I’m taking those of someone else…”

Victor reached out, hesitant. “I made a promise-“

“And you respected your promise. I’m free, now.” Emily answered, as she slowly began to leave. But Victor was not having it. He sent one last sorry glance to Victoria, before letting go of her and following Emily.
“Emily, wait!” He exclaimed, the fear of loosing her actually breaking him. “Don’t! I meant what I said, I’ll drink it! I’ll marry you! Don’t leave me!” He begged, his words flying out.

Emily stopped in her tracks, turning around to look at him. “But, Victor, you said-”

“I know what I said!” He exclaimed, his voice louder than he would have liked. “I was wrong, so wrong, I.. The moment on the bench, when you showed me my dog, I saw in your eyes the kindness you owned and the beautiful soul that was yours, I- I want to play piano with you even in death, I want to make you smile the way you did when you first saw me, I- Don’t leave me, I love you, I crave your presence, I’m desperate for your love!” He confessed, his heart nearly beating out of his chest.

Emily looked at him, not believing a word he had uttered; but the desperation she saw in his eyes soothed her worries. “Victor, are you sure..? What about Victoria?”

“What about her?” Victor snapped back, sighing. “My apologies, Victoria. But Emily- I learned to love her. My feelings are stronger than whatever I ever felt towards you. I hope… You understand.” He said, yet his eyes never left Emily’s. “Please, my dear, come. Let us marry, and finish what we began.”

Emily hesitated, her pity and heartbreak for Victoria filling her whole body. But looking at Victor, the man of her dreams, begging her to marry him, she only nodded, following him back to the altar. She watched as he drank the poison, and her eyes filled with tears of joy when they were finally declared husband and wife. They shared a kiss that mixed life and death, showed pure understanding between two worlds still so opposed - and they became one, as Victor died and became a corpse, matching the state of his loved one.

Victoria smiled sadly, watching the man she so deeply loved get married to someone else, so different than her. She turned around and left the chapel, trying to soothe the pain overwhelming her.

Emily and Victor couldn't let go of each other. She was crying, unable to stop the tears from streaming down her cheeks. She finally had what she craved her whole life -and death-, she was loved, married, and felt like she could be and do anything. Victor looked at her with those big loving eyes of his, he couldn't look away from her - she was beauty, she was perfection, she was everything.

At this exact instant, blue butterflies flew around them, creating a beautiful atmosphere as they finally both knew what they wanted : to spend their whole death-time making the other feel the happiness they deserved.
