“I found them” Kai’sa doesn’t look her in the eyes, instead she stares at one of her long wings, “They are in some magical stasis under the Howling Abyss.”
“So Freljord”
“Lissandra and the yetis captured the Watchers there, in the War of the Three Sisters”
“I see”
“I found them, and I’ve confirmed the truth to you, just as you wanted” Kai’sa keeps her gaze at the wings. She doesn’t want to admit it, but she is scared of her, after all, she is the Void.
The Void . The manifestation of the unknowable nothingness that lies beyond Runeterra. A force of insatiable hunger, waiting through the eons until its masters, the mysterious Watchers, mark the final time of undoing.
The stingray-like Voidborn doesn’t say anything more, and Kai’sa’s patience is running out. They made a deal, and Kai’sa has done her part. She traveled to the ice-cold region of Freljord to find the Watchers and, although it wasn’t an easy task, she accomplished it. It was the first time after 10 years she was out of the Void, but she still wasn’t free. She let her out of it only for this mission so, even if she tried to escape to another region, she would have caught Kai’sa (and probably killed her for the betrayal).
“Now keep your end of the deal, Bel’veth” Kai’sa finally meets Bel’veth beady purple eyes, at the center of her stingray body, where her chest would be.
Some time ago, Kai’sa tried to kill Bel’veth all alone, hoping she could end with the Void from inside of it. Of course, it didn’t go as planned. Bel’veth was unaffected by Kai’sa’s attacks, as she was not the first in trying to kill her. The surprising part was that Bel’veth didn’t kill her, instead offered her a deal.
The stingray might be the Void, but the real masters of the Void are her progenitors: The Watchers. They have full control of the Void, and they want to destroy all of Runeterra, until there’s nothing left. They disappeared a long time ago, and most of the power to control the Void was transferred to Bel’veth.
The problem was that it wasn’t confirmed the death of the Watchers, and Bel’veth didn’t have the full control of the Void; some of the power remained attached to the Watchers. And Bel’veth needs the full power for her goal: to devore Runeterra too (according to her: not to destroy it, but to remake it).
In Kai’sa’s opinion, both are terrible, but she had no choice but to accept Bel’veth offer: if Kai’sa helped her find the watchers to eradicate them, then Bel’veth would spare Runeterra for some time and let Kai’sa out of the Void to find a way to stop her.
“Bel’veth” Kai’sa insists with a firm voice, trying real hard not to show how afraid she is.
“You still dislike my true form; I can perceive the fear within you.” her wings begin to fold and her gargantuan size transforms into a human size. Now Kai’sa stares at the purple eyes of a middle-aged woman. “Better?”
Kai’sa unconsciously relaxes a bit.
“As you have completed your task successfully, I guess I do have to keep my end of the deal” she offers a unsettling smile, “You must know that you won’t be able to defeat me, it doesn’t matter how much time I spare your precious Runeterra”
“Just tell me how time do I have”
“A few months, maybe a year while I go and eradicate the Watchers”
“How will I know when the deal ends?”
“Oh, you’ll know” that arrogant smile again. Bel’veth’s confidence only makes Kai’sa angrier and more determined to defeat her.
“I will kill you” Kai’sa’s voice doesn’t flinch a bit, she means every word.
“You’re on your own, kid” Bel’veth opens a portal to the surface of Shurima. “Good luck in your search for something—or someone—to end my life.”
Kai’sa steps out of the portal and breathes the dry air of Shurima with only one thought: stop Bel’veth and the Void.
Bel’veth laughs as she extracts the sword from her chest from the man who just tried to stab her.
“It is bold of you to attempt to slay the Void with such a feeble means.” she hands the sword back to the man, who takes it and tries to stab her again. From the wall behind emerge some strings that trap and immobilize him.
“I’ll end you” he spits at the woman.
“Everyone says that to me, and still here am I”
“Not for long”
“You possess courage”
The man doesn’t stop fighting the living strings for a moment.
“The last time one sought to take my life, I extended them an offer—and it proved most successful.” Bel’veth explains as the man doesn’t answer. “I find myself feeling generous, and thus shall extend to you an offer as well.”
“I don’t make deals with demons”
“I am no demon, I am the Void” Bel’veth steps closer to him and caress his cheek. “I know why you want to kill me, and let me tell you that with your thirst for vengeance, you'll only end up killing yourself.”
The man growls and tries to avoid Bel’veth touch.
“You know nothing!”
“But I do” she steps back “You have come seeking vengeance, desiring to strike me down—the Void—for I have claimed both your daughter and your wife."
“Don’t you dare mention them” Some tears appear at the man eyes.
“You must know you can’t end me or the Void” Bel’veth ignores him "A great war approaches, one that shall bring about the end of the world as you know it, only to give rise to something greater. You may either join me in this endeavor, or face your death."
“That’s not a deal”
"I find your attitude most agreeable, and I shall require one such as you by my side. The terms are thus: you shall join me in my quest to reshape existence, and in return, both you and your daughter shall be granted the gift of life."
The man freezes at the word “daughter”. His daughter is dead, swallowed by the Void along with her wife.
“My daughter is gone”
"Your daughter yet lives."
