The restaurant was filled with laughter and chatter, with two main tables at the center of the room. On one side sat the Barcelona players—Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, Mapi León, and Patri Guijarro—all close friends of Ona Batlle, who played with them in the Spanish national team as well as at Manchester United. At the other table sat Lucy Bronze's Manchester United teammates: Mary Earps, Ella Toone, Alessia Russo, and other players from the English national team, all good friends of Lucy.
Despite the mixed group, most of the players had no idea that Ona and Lucy—known for years of rivalry on the pitch—had been secretly dating for months. All that was about to change tonight.
The background music in the restaurant shifted, and as if by fate, Taylor Swift's "London Boy" started playing. The United players immediately began to joke, and Mary Earps threw the first comment: "Ona, this one’s for you. We know you've got a thing for the Brits," she laughed, having no idea what she was about to discover.
Ona, encouraged by her teammates and feeling the moment was right, stood up with a mischievous smile. She glanced at Lucy, deciding that there was no reason to keep their relationship hidden any longer. The room grew more curious, and instead of singing the original lyrics, Ona made a significant change. Her gaze locked on Lucy’s table as she sang clearly:
"I love my London girl..."
The laughter in the room instantly died down, replaced by surprised looks. Mary, Ella, and Alessia exchanged confused glances. "Did she say ‘girl’?" murmured Ella, clearly trying to process what she just heard.
Unfazed, Ona kept singing, relishing the moment. With every line, the room buzzed with whispers. The Barça players, sensing something was off, started paying closer attention. Aitana glanced at Lucy, her face a mix of disbelief and amusement, and slowly, knowing smiles began to spread.
"She loves my Spanish smile, like a child when our eyes meet, darling, I fancy you..."
Lucy, unable to hold back her laughter, looked down as Mapi León raised an eyebrow in her direction. "Wait, is Lucy the ‘London girl’?"
Ona, walking toward Lucy's table, kept altering the lyrics without hesitation, her voice now louder as she had the entire room’s attention.
"Takes me back to Highgate, met all of her best mates, yeah, I love my London girl..."
At that moment, both the Barça and United players finally pieced it together. Mary slapped her forehead and burst out laughing. "No way! Ona and Lucy?" she shouted, unable to contain herself.
Aitana shot up from her seat, clapping as her Barça teammates erupted in laughter. "Well, well, Lucy! You’ve been fooling us this whole time!"
Lucy, blushing but laughing, finally got up and walked over to Ona. They exchanged glances, knowing the secret was out. With a shy smile, Lucy opened her arms to Ona, hugging her as the entire room cheered and applauded.
Ona, fully embracing the moment, sang the final modified verse:
"And now I fancy her, oh I fancy my London girl."
Mapi León was the first to get up and approach Lucy with a smirk. "So… a London girl, huh? And here we were, completely in the dark."
Alexia, still laughing, joined in. "This calls for a celebration! How could you keep this from us, Lucy?"
"You’re telling me," Patri added with a grin. "All this time we thought you were just our ‘northern girl,’ but it turns out you're Ona’s ‘London girl.’"
Lucy, realizing there was no escaping the teasing, raised her hands in surrender. "Alright, I admit it. You caught me."
Aitana, always full of energy, saw an opportunity and jumped in. "Lucy, now that you're officially the London girl, you have to give us a tour of London next time we visit!"
Patri joined in with the jokes. "Yes, and Ona will have to be our personal guide. You both owe us after keeping this secret."
Amid the laughter, Ona quickly responded. "Anything, as long as you all stop teasing us!"
The United players were still in shock. Alessia looked at Lucy with a playful smile. "And we thought we knew everything about you, Lucy! You really kept us in the dark!"
Mary stood up with her phone in hand, pretending to record the moment. "This has to be documented. The world needs to know that our English girl is Ona’s London girl!"
Seeing her chance, Ona jokingly snatched the phone from Mary. "Not so fast! We’re not Instagram-official yet."
The atmosphere in the restaurant was lighter than ever. The players from both teams began to mingle, sharing jokes and stories about Lucy and Ona. Aitana kept teasing Lucy non-stop, while Alexia was already planning the next group outing with a playful grin.
"Girls, what we’ve learned tonight is to never underestimate the power of a song to reveal secrets," Aitana said, raising her glass. "To our London girl and her Spanish sweetheart!"
The whole restaurant erupted in cheers and applause as Ona and Lucy, now officially out in the open, enjoyed the love and support of their friends. Although they had planned to keep their relationship under wraps, the way it all came out couldn’t have been more perfect.
The night continued with more laughter, jokes, and celebrations, as players from both national teams raised a glass to the surprises life brings, with Ona and her London girl being the stars of the evening.
