Work Text:

“Do you remember the time Himari blasted through the window and broke our futon?”

Katsuki looks to the side of him. A wrinkled smile struggling to form.

“Yeah, and you decided to give her a lecture on why we don’t use our quirks inside. All good that did.”

Izuku chuckles, soft. His vision is clouded after, a look of confusion gracing his face. Katsuki sighs, grabs his cane to stand.

“You told her that she needed to– ugh– follow in her dad’s footsteps and only use it outside or with someone who isn’t a family or friend. Remember?” Katsuki recalls, walking with the click of his cane to grab Izuku some water.

Izuku smiles up at him, the same smile he’s always had, ever since Katsuki can remember. The affection never waivered, never changed–despite the years on them.

“Oh, of course Kacchan. Must have slipped my mind.”

“Then she decided to use it on the next stranger that bumped into her. I thought it was funny, you know.”

Katsuki’s hand struggles to hold the cup for long, his fingers losing their strength the longer they hold, but Izuku grabs it in time. Holds it up to his mouth for a tiny sip. “Kacchan-sugoi.”

Katsuki waves him off. “Yeah, yeah, drink. Need to take your medicine, too.”

Izuku’s brow crinkles some more as Katsuki holds his hand with the pills in his palm. “Medicine? But I don’t feel sick.”

Katsuki looks at him, his eyes drooping. “It’s for your health. Do it.”

Izuku shrugs, holds out his hand, and pops each pill one by one. “Always so good at taking care of me. What would I do without you?”

Katsuki places a small, slight kiss to Izuku’s forehead, Izuku patting his chest as he does, before settling back down next to Izuku’s bed. Glances at the clock, and lets the time pass for a beat.

He picks up the book that he was reading, gets another few pages in before Izuku looks back over to him.

“Oh! Kacchan’s here. What happened? Did a villain hit me too hard– oh it must have been that one with the rocks for hands, we took him back in– back in…” Izuku pauses, looking down, lost in thought. Katsuki just threads their fingers together to bring Izuku back in the moment.

“Oh, Kacchan! You’re here.” Izuku smiles at him, eyes creasing and wrinkles spanning.

Katsuki matches it, soft and endearing. Couldn’t ever help it after this long. “Hey nerd. You want to put the TV on? I think there’s a special on the Silver Age All Might doll that got recalled.”

Izuku nods enthusiastically, and Katsuki grunts, turning slowly to find the remote. His bones ache more today, but no matter. He finds it eventually, turning it on and lets the TV chatter fill the room. They watch, idle, until a big boom and a bright light happens while describing one of the fights from that time.

“Oh that reminds me– Do you remember the time Himari blasted through the window and broke our futon?”

Katsuki looks back over to him. Watches his eyes get bright, his emotion twenty years younger than his face. Katsuki’s heart aches, but responds again.

“Yeah, and you decided to give her a lecture on why we don’t use our quirks inside. All good that did.”
