Work Text:

“They’re so different.”

Minho has heard this in passing and directly confessed to him countless times.

Felix is an extrovert. Minho is the most introverted person you’ll meet. Felix is sunshine and rainbows, and Minho is the night sky. Felix can’t stand the taste of coffee, Minho needs it to survive each gruelling day. Felix loves loudly - Minho loves in quiet, almost silent actions.

They have never been what people call a ‘match made in heaven’. They don’t work like that.

They work more similarly to how a hot french fry mixes with a nice cold ice cream. Or the feeling of taking a scalding hot shower on an even hotter day.

Not for everyone, but perfect for some. Perfect for them.

Minho doesn’t listen to the people who don’t understand it. They aren’t the ones that matter.

His Yongbok, his family, his closest friends - they are the only ones who do. They are the ones who see it without Minho needing to explain to them. How he loves, how Felix loves him back.

How it all makes sense.

Minho turns to his left, reaches for the small of his lover’s back, and sighs contently. Everything feels right, in a way he can’t summon any words in the Korean vocabulary to describe. Felix looks up at him, smiles at the familiar touch, and there is a twitch in his lips. Tell-tale signs of just how much the younger wishes to kiss him, right there and then. Like Felix can barely hold all the emotions he has in him.

Minho feels so loved, it almost drowns him.

“Minho-nim, your private table is ready.” The server calls out for them, and he doesn’t let go of Felix as they make their way through the restaurant.

It’s dark, and romantic, if you would like to say. They are shown to a separate room at the back of the establishment and the nice waiter provides the menu as they settle down. Minho gives a small smile, while Felix utters a quiet ‘thank you’ as they close the door on their way out.

They browse the menu, Minho doing it just for show. He knows what he’ll get, and he has a good prediction of what Felix will get too. He didn’t just pick this place for no reason.

His Yongbok deserves the best, afterall.

“Hyung, this place is so fancy. I can’t believe you managed to book a table when it’s so busy.” Felix has a certain light in his eyes, which Minho has a perfect view of, sitting across from him.

Minho lets out a chuckle, because while yes, this place is fancy - it’s barely the fanciest restaurant they’ve been to with their kind of lifestyle. And it’s silly, for Felix to assume Minho hasn’t been planning this for at least a month.

It’s Valentine’s Day - he knows they won’t be the only ones out.

“I have my ways.” Minho smirks, but his reddening ears give it all away. His efforts. His love. His devotion. Felix goes back to the menu, the smile on his face gentle. Minho takes this time to admire the beauty in front of him.

His boyfriend.

He gets to call this wonderful, beautiful, stunning angel his. Felix is wearing a black turtleneck, the silver pendant Minho got him for their anniversary shining brightly against it. It evokes a deep satisfaction in him, to see it fall so perfectly on his chest. Felix had cried when Minho gifted it to him on their first ever anniversary, tears and snot having no effect on how ethereal he looked. His tears falling like diamonds on his skin, Minho had promised eternity to himself then.

Felix brushes a stray hair behind his ear, and Minho is distracted again. Felix isn’t wearing any makeup, bare-faced and freckles on full display. This is one of his favourite versions of Felix - pretty just being him. Minho continues to feel like the luckiest man on the planet.

After a while, Felix notices that he’s staring. He blushes a deep scarlet, as if it’s new. As if Minho hasn’t been caught starting for years.

“Hyung,” he whines. “Focus on the menu!” Felix tries to hide behind his hands, and all Minho can do is play into it. “But I’d rather focus on you, jagiya”. They both laugh, but they know it’s not really a joke. If Minho could, he would spend the day in bed, with his lover curled up in his arms, being granted all the time in the world to admire every single part of his Yongbok.

It’s okay. He has a lifetime to do just that.

The night flows naturally. The waiter comes in after a knock, takes their order, and they dig in once everything arrives.

Felix has ordered exactly what Minho thought he would, and all that leaves his lips are compliments to the chef. Minho is full just watching him.

They talk, they laugh, Felix goes on a tangent about this new game he started playing, and Minho just listens. Because when Minho goes on his own rant about a new recipe he can’t seem to master, Felix listens too. They catch up, despite seeing each other every day. Minho knows this will never change.

When the dessert is served, Felix deems it fit to finally bring up the topic Minho knows he has been holding in.

“Hyung, you didn’t have to do all this, you know.” He takes one bite of the cake, and continues. “You know I would’ve been just as happy to order to the dorms and have our own kind of candlelight dinner there.” Felix is genuine when he says this, never being nice just for the sake of it. Minho understands the gratitude that Felix is showing, the honesty in it.

Minho also knows that the reason Felix is saying all this, is because of how deeply he understands Minho back.

Minho isn’t the type to show off. He doesn’t usually place meaning on days like these. Days so saturated it almost feels fake.

But tonight? This dinner?

This is showing off. This is dressing up and celebrating on a day every other couple does too. This is everything Minho from a decade ago would have laughed at.

The only difference?

“Yongbok-ah, you know I would do anything for you.”

The difference is the person sitting right in front of him. The one that turned his person into love, rounding his corners.

He’s honest here, too. The same sincerity Felix has gifted to him.

He’s here because he loves Felix, and because Felix loves him too.

It doesn’t matter what they like or dislike. It doesn’t matter if their love languages are mismatched. It doesn’t matter that they’re different.

It’s Felix. No matter what universe or lifetime, Minho will grow to love him. He’s sure of this.

That’s just how it works.
