Day 5 — Nightmare

Work Text:

There was no one left in the theater except the two of them. As it should have been. The water was rising at a high speed, rapidly swallowing up the audience seats and almost reaching the judge's place.

They both decided to find a secluded spot on the high balcony where the accused usually stood. Furina, looking at her empty VIP place , which was currently without a throne, regretted not going there, and it was too risky to die in the first minutes of the flood. Focalors wouldn't forgive herself.

They pressed themselves against each other, as if protecting themselves from the coming waters. Furina closed her eyes. She would have liked to fall asleep now after the early emotional shock from which she had barely recovered, but she told herself that it was better to be conscious. It was better to talk to Focalors one last time now.

The goddess hugged her by the shoulders, laid her head on the crown of her human part and whispered soothingly.

“I’m glad we met, even if it was on such a tragic note,” Focalors said, stroking Furina’s back and listening to her endless sobs.

"I don't want it to end like this."

De Fontaine opened her mouth to say a few more words, but the cold water that reached her feet made her suddenly fall silent and press herself closer to Focalors.

"Don't be so afraid. You will become an Oceanid, and only return to a life you do not remember. It is not the same as death," Focalors said, pausing in her speech until Furina felt her body not feel at all. Not at all.

Warmth washed over her shoulders and back, leaving behind large wet spots.

Tears ran down Furina's pale face.

The legs were knee-deep in water.

"Furina..." she heard nearby.

De Fontaine glanced around nervously, but there was no hint of the source of the sound in the room.

"I'm all alone here. Everyone was evacuated."

"Furina, you yourself promised that we would go to the store in the morning!"

Oceanid, several times larger than the girl, appeared before her eyes. The voice echoing from the creature resembled Focalors. So, the hydro archon is also capable of dissolving...?

Furina felt a sharp jolt before she could force her eyes open. A light ceiling, a familiar setting. And Focalors nearby.

"Good morning! Your cheeks are all wet."

She's alive. De Fontaine breathed a sigh of relief.

"Really? Sorry, I had a nightmare. They visit me more and more often..."

Focalors instantly circled the bed and found herself closer to the girl, smiling with narrowed eyes.

"Well then, shall we go? You yourself told me in the evening that we would go for ingredients for the cake."

Furina nodded vigorously, lazily getting out of bed and stretching.

It's good that it was just a dream.
