Chapter 1: Despicable

Chapter Text

Julian Holland. Everyone loves him, he has many talents, he was good at acting, and even was good at mimicking. Including his athletic talent and good looks, everyone wanted to be him or to be with him.

Except Elizabeth Allen.

She was the complete opposite of Julian. She was snarky, her work could never compare to Julian, no matter how hard she tried. Her messy brown hair and boyish nature made numerous people mistake her as a boy. She was fine with it, it didn’t matter how people looked at her. She even dressed as a boy a few times to help her friends out of situations. But she was always the same Elizabeth.

She hated him ever since the time he sneaked itchy powder into the pages of her book and she was sent out of class for being too disruptive. She was the victim! She couldn’t stand the humiliation that came after that, especially with her infamous reputation of being the naughtiest girl in hopes of getting expelled. She wished he never transferred in. In fact, she wished he never existed. If he had never existed, she would have been the top of the class!

Elizabeth huffed and slung on her messenger bag, checking in her bag if she brought her medicine, brush, and a few books she needed to give to a junior. Elizabeth was in her 4th year this year, thankfully surviving a year of Julian Holland. Despicable, vile, hollow creature. She thought whenever she heard his name being said by giggling juniors.

“I heard we have some very handsome boys in Whyteleafe, so I joined!” “Is that so? I joined because the lacrosse team was awfully spectacular, last I saw them. And also because of Julian Holland.” “So you admit it!”

Elizabeth had a headache from the squealing girls, and headed down the train cabin. To be fair, she wasn’t really into school when she first joined. She walked down the carriage and found Joan Townsend reading a book. Seeing her best friend, she squealed and hugged her. Guess she was no different from the juniors after all. Joan looked up, her squarish face crinkled up from smiling and it pushed up her round glasses that looked almost too big for her head.

“Elizabeth! How are you doing? We have so many things to catch up on!”

Elizabeth was about to say something when Julian Holland entered the carriage. Or…not. His eyes were a darker shade of green, and he had a permanent frown on his handsome face. The real Julian Holland appeared from behind, with his ever so annoying shit eating grin, that Elizabeth just wants to rip out of his mouth. His eyes immediately lit up when he made eye contact with her, and strided over.

He was taller and put on more muscles, because of puberty. His messy dark hair made girls swoon, thinking up all kinds of delusions for him. Including Elizabeth, who managed to act on it and swept his bangs aside.

“Gosh Julian, you’re already a teenager, and you haven’t learnt to comb your hair?” She chided. Julian’s eyes softened and muttered a soft, “I’m sorry.” His lookalike then cleared his throat and scowled at Julian, waiting for Julian to introduce him.

Julian sighed and rolled his eyes at the disturbance, begrudgingly making a quick introduction. “Patrick, Elizabeth. Elizabeth, this is my cousin, Patrick.” His tone was considerably much nicer to Elizabeth, to which she didn’t notice because she was too caught up on the fact that she has to see 2 Julians at school everyday.

Meanwhile Patrick could see how smitten his cousin was for a girl who didn’t give a damn about him. His cousin had visited him during the holidays and all he could talk about was his crush.

“Elizabeth wrote me a letter today. Oh how I wish I could see her right now! Look Patrick, her ‘y’ usually has a long tail, but this one has a shorter one…” Must have written a rushed obligatory one Patrick would think, briefly skimming the letter. The letter was just Elizabeth doing her job as a class monitor reminding everyone of what to bring. “Specifically for me! She knows how I always harp about her ‘y’ being too long to the point it’s unreadable.”  And Julian spent the whole day rereading the letter, as if she sent him a love letter.

Pathetic loser. Patrick scoffed and tried to find another seat, but he was immediately awestruck by a girl with long flowing, curly blonde hair, and eyes the colour of the summer sky.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was begging Patrick not to go in her head, as Julian took the seat opposite her and Joan Townsend. The girls in the next cabin peered over to see the rumored eye candy.

First day of school hasn’t even started and Elizabeth already wants to go home.
