He just wanted to do something nice for Valentine's Day. Now, looking around the room, Ezreal thinks he might have overdone it.
The glow in the dark stars peppering the ceiling clashed heavily with the pink and purple fairy lights hanging around the edges of the wall, and the big banner that said “HAPPY VDAY KAYN” with little (bad) sketches of them both was just…tacky. Ez chewed at his lip. What should he do?
Kayn was going to be home in a few minutes, he'd had a signing appearance at a local record shop, and he'd left the house in a bit of a grump, mumbling something about “everyone's going to be all over him because of the holiday” before slamming the door, his motorcycle revving loudly barely moments later.
Sighing, Ez walked over to the banner, reaching up and starting to pull it off the wall.
“Aww, you're gonna take it down?”
The voice startles him, and he jumps, tearing the paper banner in the process, turning to see Kayn leaning against the door. He freezes, a bit of torn paper in his hands, eyes wide, brain attempting to catch up to his mouth. “I just- it was weird- I thought you'd hate it- when did you-”
Kayn chuckles, shoving off the door and coming over to Ez, pulling him away from the wall and into a hug. “Easy, babe.” He kisses the top of his head. “I like it, it's cute, like you.”
Ezreals cheeks flush red, “Okay, but you were supposed to be surprised. When did you get home?”
“The line died down and I got through all the thirsty fans a little early, I thought I'd surprise you .” He pulls back, looking down at his boyfriend and freeing one of his hands, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a box of strawberry pocky. “Your favorite, right?”
Ez looks at the box, then up at Kayn, beaming. “Yeah! We can share! I can set up a movie, if you want. We have a bunch on our list, we can just pick the most like, romantic one, because it's Valentine's Day and all…” he gestures to the bed, sprinkled with fake rose petals and his laptop sitting on the end.
“Sure, did you want me to make popcorn?” Kayn’s hand runs over Ez’s shoulder, rubbing it lightly, just offering him comfort.
Ezreal nods enthusiastically, then looks at the piece of torn banner in his hand, now slightly crumpled and just bearing the letters “AYN” and the hurried sketch of Kayn (that, admittedly, had been done in pink, red, and black crayon). “I'll try to fix this, and then we can watch the movie!”
“Do I get to know which one you picked or…”
“Not yet!” Ez smiles, as Kayn shakes his head.
“Alright, I'm gonna go make the popcorn then, I'll knock this time so you can properly surprise me.” He leans down, holding Ez’s chin in his hand and kisses him, then turns and phases through the door.
Ezreal sighs, “You can use the door other times too!” He giggles, as though he didn't completely take advantage of his own blink more times than not when he was just going a room away. Turning back to the banner, he smooths out the rest of it, and tapes the torn piece back up. It wasn't perfectly aligned, but it was close enough. Ez turns on the fairy lights, casting a romantic glow around the room as he turns off the overhead light, hopping over to the bed and humming to himself as he sits down, some of the rose petals fluttering up around him as he grabs the laptop and opens it on his lap. “Okay, The Breakfast Club…I think Yone owns that one…” He pulls up the movie from the cloud storage, right as there's a knock on the door.
“Can I come in yet?” Kayn's voice (and the scent of fresh popcorn) wafts through the crack under the closed door.
Ez scoots back on the bed so his back is against the wall, setting the laptop on the end of it in the perfect spot for him and Kayn to both be able to see it. “Yup!” The door opens, and Ez cracks the cheesiest grin he can manage. “Surprise! Happy Valentine's Day!”
Kayn laughs, kicking the door shut behind him, the bowl of popcorn spilling a few kernels onto the floor. “You're such a dork.” He walks to the bed, handing the bowl to Ez and crawling on, cuddling up next to his boyfriend. “But you're my dork.” Kayn kisses him on the cheek, then looks at the screen and groans. “Fuck, you're really a dork.”
Ez snuggles into Kayn's side, feeling his arm wrap around his shoulders. “Well, from the list, it was either this or Barbie, so…”
“Yeah, alright, roll the damn 80s movie.” Kayn reaches over and grabs a handful of popcorn, stuffing it into his mouth.
Ezreal leans forward, tapping the space bar to start it up, and settles back into his spot next to Kayn. “Hey Kayn?”
“Mm?”
“I love you.”
Kayn nods, glancing sideways at him and cracking half a smile, mouth still full, “Love you too, nerd. Watch the damn movie.”
