Starpaws Island

Summary:

Sirius is running wild. He's finally let loose on all his inner chaos demons.
Remus just wants to tend flowers and catch bugs.
Good thing you can not commit crime in Animal Crossing.

At home from Boarding School, Remus can not cope well with the things he will inevitably have to face.
Luckily for him, his friends are just as obsessed with their new game as he is.

Notes:

Hello everyone, and welcome to this beautiful little piece of escapism in both a figurative, as well as a literary sense.
In this format, I will mix in some in game scenes with scenes from the real world, which will also differ in writing style.
There will usually be 2 Gaming Scenes, and then a Real Life Scene, and those will probably progressively get a bit longer over the course of the story, so please stick with it and let me know what you think, or what AC tropes I definitely have to add!

*Warning*
There are heavy topics coming up!
If you are sensitive, I'll include a list in the end notes, so you can look it up there!
For everyone who wants to go in blind, just skip those.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Notes:

Just a small, cozy glimpse into the bane of Remus' digital existence

Chapter Text

🌿 ☀️ Chapter 1 – Digital Bugs ☀️ 🌿

The sun was shining, the waves were gently lapping at the shore, and a cheery little tune drifted from somewhere unseen—probably K.K. Slider’s latest existential masterpiece playing over the town’s speaker system. It was another beautiful day on Starpaws Island.

Sirius Black, self-proclaimed supreme ruler of the island (and by that, he meant he ran around causing chaos while Tom Nook still somehow controlled his financial destiny), stood in front of his house—a modest six-room mansion he was 3.4 million bells in debt for—wearing the most outrageous outfit available in the shop that morning: a pirate’s coat, heart-shaped sunglasses, and bunny slippers.

In his hands? A net. His mission? Violence.

Across the plaza, Remus Lupin—wearing a simple brown sweater, sensible trousers, and a bemused expression—was carefully arranging bookshelves in his meticulously decorated cottage. His house was a cozy academic dream, filled with warm lighting, stacks of novels, and a little tea set permanently placed by the window.

He had no idea he was being hunted.

Sirius sprinted through the trees, dodging a particularly judgmental Raymond (who was sipping coffee and clearly not impressed), and burst through Remus' open front door.

“MOONY,” Sirius yelled. “DON’T MOVE.”

Remus turned around, still holding a book. “...What?”

THWACK.

The net came down directly on Remus’ head.

A stunned silence. Then, a little text bubble popped up above Sirius’ head:

“Hahaha! Gotcha! You’ve got fleas, mate.”

Remus slowly closed the book in his hands.

“Sirius.”

“Yes, dear?”

“You do realize we’re in a video game, right?”

“Yes.”

“And that fleas aren’t real?”

“Yes.”

A pause. Then Remus slowly picked up his bug-catching net.

Sirius, sensing imminent doom, shrieked and bolted outside.

From somewhere near Resident Services, Isabelle sighed and took a sip of her coffee. It was going to be another long day.
