Valentine's plans

Summary:

"Remind me what day it is today?"

"Its friday."

"The date, I meant."

"The 14th of February, if we're going by the local calendar." Ratio still hasn't even looked at him.

"Right."

There is a silence between the two.

"You know whats usually celebrated on February 14th?" Aventurine starts again.

"Commonly, the 14th is known as Valentine's day, traditionally a day to celebrate romance and love. Many couples may choose to spend the day together and give each other flowers or chocolate as a token of affection." Ratio explains, still not looking at him.

"Right."

Another silence.

Aventurine stretches in his chair. "What a shame I have nobody to celebrate with..."

"Oh?" Ratio finally perks up and looks at him, head slightly tilted. "The dinner reservation for two I made for the evening suggests otherwise. Or was I mistaken and should cancel it?"

Work Text:

Aventurine sighs.

Ratio, where he is sat grading his students' papers, does not move a muscle.

Aventurine sighs louder.

"What is it, gambler?" Ratio asks, still not moving to acknowledge him further.

"Remind me what day it is today?" Aventurine asks from where he is propped on Ratio's reading armchair, legs thrown over one of the armrests. Although they are currently in Aventurine's house, the doctor had claimed this room as his own. He had arrived unannounced earlier, as he often does, as he claims to work better here than in his office at the university. 'Sure thing, doc' is what Aventurine had said when Ratio first told him that.

"Its friday."

Aventurine suddenly jumps to his feet and runs to grab Ratio by his shoulders and spin him in his chair to look at him. "And when were you planning on telling me about that?! You didn't even ask me out!!!"

"I was under the impression it was unnecessary, seeing as we have been involved with each other for quite some time now. Spending Valentine's day together was a logical conclusion to me." Ratio responds earnestly. "I apologise if I've misread our relationship," he adds with a slight frown now souring his features.

Aventurine suddenly feels bad for making the doctor doubt their bond. He lets out a sad laugh and shakes him lightly. "No... no of course not, don't worry... it's just.... I would like to have been asked out..."

"Oh." The frown leaves Ratio's face and is replaced with a slight smile. "I apologise for foregoing that step. Would it be too late to ask you out now?"

Aventurine pretends to take a moment to think. "Hmm.... i suppose I can make an exception for you... it would be a shame to let your dinner reservation go to waste." he says, letting his arms snake closer around Ratio's neck.

"Well then, dear gambler, would you like to go to dinner with me today?"

"Me? To be the esteemed Doctor Ratio's Valentine? It would be an honour!" Aventurine grinned. "Where are we going anyway?"

Ratio is fully wearing his lovestruck smile now, the one that adorably makes him look a little dumb. His hands find Aventurine's waist to pull him closer. "I don't want to spoil the surprise now," he says. "But worry not, my dear, I know you're going to enjoy it."

Aventurine gives him a little peck on the lips. "Alright, I'll have to trust my good doctor's judgement I guess." he almost purrs.

"I guess so," Ratio responds with another kiss. "But for now you will also have to trust your good doctor's judgement to let him keep working for a bit, alright? These papers won't grade themselves and Aeons know these idiots need the feedback." And with that, Ratio gives his partner a pat on the ass to signal it's time for him to leave.

Aventurine pouts and reluctantly goes back to his previous spot on the armchair, but not before giving Ratio another kiss on the lips. And another on each cheek. And one on his forehead. And one last one on the tip of his nose, just to be sure.

-

The remainder of the day passes quickly, yet agonisingly slowly for Aventurine, now full of anticipation for what Ratio has planned for them. For a while, he keeps watching Ratio do his grading - the doctor looks so unfairly good with his reading glasses on, it's a sight Aventurine will truly never get tired of.

Regardless, after a while he decides he should start working on figuring out an outfit for their date. After all, his closet is quite expansive and Ratio telling him to "go all out" in response to him asking for the dress code really doesnt narrow his option down all that much.

In the end Aventurine settles on a suit that shows off his skin and hugs his body in all the right places. [insert beautiful and eloquent description of fancy details here].

As if sensing that Aventurine is finally happy with his choice, Ratio emerges from his study to find his partner. When he arrives in the doorway, he stops in his tracks, mouth agape.

"Beautiful," leaves Ratio's mouth instinctually. "Absolutely gorgeous. Both an understatement, but words seem to be leaving me at this moment."

"Aww, have I left you speechless?" Aventurine giggles and gives him a little twirl to show off the entire outfit. "What a rare occurence. I'm going to take that as a compliment in and of itself, although 'beautiful' and 'gorgeous' do seem quite fitting already, thank you very much."

Ratio blushes slightly, and his dumb loving smile is back. Aventurine feels eternally grateful to be on the receiving end of that look.

"Well then, are you going to get dressed up as well, or are you just going to keep staring? Not that I mind," Aventurine says after a few moments of silence.

"Right," Ratio says, regaining his conscience and starting to move to his own closet, whose options were significantly more limited, especially considering this was Aventurine's house, but they have been together for long enough to still rack up a respectable amount of a variety of Ratio's things all over the place.

He re-emerges wearing a suit that is more simple than Aventurine's, though that's not hard. It still makes him look incredible, and while it conceals most of his body, it leaves little to the imagination about how muscular the man is underneath. There are some gold accents on the suit that really make his skin glow.

It's Aventurine's turn to stare now. Really, how is it fair that his partner is so intelligent, talented, caring, AND drop dead gorgeous? He almost wants to tell him to cancel that reservation after all and eat him whole right here, right now.

"Wow," is what he manages to say, his body moving automatically as though magnetically attracted to his partner. When he arrives at his goal, he positively smothers Ratio. "I'm so lucky~" he says in between kisses. "Don't think those clothes are staying on for very long tonight after we get home."

Ratio blushes again. "I feel like I should be the one saying that, my love, but lets not dwell on that - it's almost time for us to leave," he says, but puts little effort into actually moving them toward to the door.

Aventurine indulges in a few more kisses before he agrees and leaves the doctor enough space to regain his bearings and straighten out his suit back to a presentable state.

"Well then. Shall we get going?" Ratio asks, offering his arm for Aventurine to hold on to.

"We shall~" Aventurine answers, grabbing his arm and letting himself be led out the door and to their destination.

Notes:

if anyone wants to actually come up with a pretty little outfit for Aventurine im more than happy to include it but as someone who only wears jeans and a rotation of tshirts with varying degrees of satanic motives or band merch i dont feel qualified for this job

I kinda wanna add some smut to this but i will be busy spending valentines day with my actual real life beautiful gorgeous showstopping incredible fiancé so thatll probably have to wait, if i do decide to write more
