Chapter Text
Thursday, 2:00 am
It was a quiet night in ohkay city, the sky was illuminated by the faint light of the moon, that glowing light that was not from that natural satellite but was reflected by the sun. The moon that night was a full moon. Perfect for the malevolent plan of a certain mysterious character, the guy had stolen one or another invention from Petey's secret lab because with the help of that technology he would develop a supa lethal serum with the ability to transform anyone into an aggressive, violent and bloodthirsty beast. The target of that serum was none other than dog man.
- Well...I just hope this works. A mysterious hooded figure walked silently towards the doghouse where the half-dog, half-man officer lived. As he arrived, he opened the door very carefully trying as much as possible not to make any noise (Yes, Dogman leaves the door to his house unlocked, that's how trusting he is.) - How odd, why would anyone leave the door to their house unlocked or unlocked? Whispered the intruder who was now inside the doghouse, without caring about that he continued his way upstairs to the bedroom, once there he observed the officer sleeping peacefully, he took out a syringe of considerable size, of a size similar to a syringe that would be used for a horse, this syringe contained a strange bright green liquid, that was the serum. Without wasting any more time, he injected it into Dogman's leg, who felt a sudden stabbing pain and began to open his eyes little by little, so the intruder quickly ran out of the property after having achieved his terrible task.
- W-What? What just happened? Why am I awake? The officer asked himself, then grabbed his cell phone, which was under his pillow, and checked the time. - It's barely 2:30 in the morning, but I felt a strange pain and that's why I woke up? He mentioned but then noticed footprints and boot marks in his room, so he went to investigate by going downstairs, when he got to the first floor he noticed the front door slightly open, without thinking more he just closed it. - I forgot to close the door after coming home from work, how distracted I am. The canine went back upstairs to the bedroom to finally continue resting because in four hours he had to get up to go to work.
6:30 am
- Dogman! You're finally here. Commented Chief who was sitting in his office drinking a cup of coffee. - Thanks for being early. Anyway, we have a lot of work to do. Start by reading these files and when you finish, do me a favor and put them in order. The man handed him a folder.
- Uhhh, yeah, it's just, there's a detail....
- What? How could you not do such a simple job?
- I just.....can't read.
- Ohhh, I understand. Then you will learn to read, it's not that complicated so I think I could teach you in about two weeks.
- Really? Would you do that for me, Chief? Thank you very much! You are the best boss in the world! Dogman pounced on the poor man as usual but this time he only gave him a hug, a hug that knocked him to the ground but at least this time he didn't lick his face or inside his mouth.
- Yes, yes, yes. But get off! You're hurting my back.
- Oops, sorry Chief, I just...got excited, haha. Dogman quickly got up and helped Chief up as well.
- Good. We'll start with the reading lessons at break time, for now just sort out the files in that folder I left you.
- I will not let you down. He took the folder with him to start examining its contents, as he sat down to make his work more comfortable, he noticed that in that folder was Petey's file, a document that contained the list of crimes that the orange cat had committed in the past, as well as the charges he was accused of. - Hey, Chief, is it really necessary for us to keep Petey's criminal record? I mean, he's good now and has managed to redeem himself quite well.
- Ah yes, if you want you can discard it. That evidence is no longer useful to us.
- Thanks. Greg tore the document into pieces and discarded it in a nearby trash can. - This is for you, Petey, I hope you can take advantage of this second chance we are giving you. After eliminating that file, the officer continued with his work and suddenly came across another document that caught his attention, this one contained information about an ex-policeman, who apparently had committed a crime and for that he was fired from the police and sent to prison for a few years.
- Chief, sorry to bother you again, but can you explain to me who this person is? He said as he showed him the photo that accompanied the file.
- What do you want now, Dogman? Can't you see I'm very busy- The man's expression quickly changed from one of annoyance to one of visible astonishment. - Don't tell me we still have this madman's file?
- Who is he? and why did he end up like this?
- This is Winter, an ex-cop i had to arrest and take to prison several years ago. You and Knight never had the chance to meet him, because he worked here many years ago, before you even started your training at the police academy.
- Why did he end up in prison?
- Because he robbed a bank and shot two officers who tried to stop him. Fortunately those officers managed to survive and thanks to that we were able to arrest him.
- God, that sounds awful, and who were those officers he shot?
- That was Milly and I.
- I'm so sorry, Chief. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but at least you lived to tell the tale and managed to bring that Winter to justice.
- Don't worry, it didn't even leave us that bad and our recovery in the hospital was quick. And yes, Winter is currently still behind bars in a maximum security prison, so he will never be able to escape.
- That's good to know. I'd better get back to work sorry for the interruption.
10:00 pm
- Well Dogman, you can go home now. Milly and i are staying late tonight, so we won't need you.
- Okay, thanks boss! Thanks to you too, Milly! See you tomorrow. He said goodbye as he headed for the police station exit
- See you tomorrow. Have a good rest, Dogman. Replied Milly, the second in command at the police station and Chief's right-hand woman.
Once Dogman left work, he went through the park, because that way he could get home faster and also because the park was lighted and it was already dark, and he clearly preferred to go through there than through the dark alleys.
- Dogman! A rather familiar voice called his name, causing the policeman to instinctively prick up his ears to hear better. - Dogman! Here we are! Over here! Lil Petey was trying to catch the attention of the aforementioned
- Lil Petey! He mentions with great enthusiasm as he approaches the little orange kitten and his father who were sitting on one of the park benches
- Hey, Dogman! What are you doing here? Did you come to the park too?
- I missed you so much, Lil Petey! These days without seeing you have felt like years! He wraps the little boy in a warm hug and starts licking all over his face
- Hahaha, you tickle me, Dogman!
- Okay, okay, that's enough, stop messing him up with your drool. Petey in response takes his son away from the dog to carry him himself. -You know you can have him with you for the weekend, so let him go for now.
- Ah, yes, i'm sorry...i didn't mean to disturb...The canine lowers his ears and gaze sadly
- Well...you can be with him while he finishes his ice cream. The orange cat lets go of his son and lets him sit next to Dogman
- Thanks, Petey! You are the best! He jumped on top of him to hug him and started blowing kisses all over his face
- Ahg! Get down! Right now! You'll break my back!
- Ohh, I'm so sorry! Greg got up from on top of the cat and helped him up. - I got overexcited.
- Bad doggy! Bad doggy! Don't you ever do that again! He jerked out of Dogman's grip - Don't touch me!
- Come on, Papa, don't scold Dogman! He was just happy to see us and wanted to show it.
- Ahg, okay, just because you ask me to, son. He gently touched the little boy's nose. -Finish your ice cream so we can go home. He gave him a kiss on the head
- Yeah! i'm almost over. Lil Petey was still eating his strawberry ice cream or well, what was left of it, since the ice cream was already quite melted, which caused some of it to fall to the floor, a fact that did not go unnoticed by Dogman
- Oh no, don't even think about it, Greg.
- ICE CREAM! And in the blink of an eye, the dog was licking the melted ice cream off the floor
- Oh, that looks like fun! I'll give it a try! The kitten was about to start licking the ice cream off the floor, until fortunately he was stopped
- No, wait, Lil Petey! Petey was holding his son until he turned his angry gaze to Dogman, - Are you serious, Greg?! Are you serious that you still can't learn to control your canine urges?!
- Uhmm... I'm sorry, really, I didn't mean to-
- No! Don't even bother to apologize! We're leaving now. The annoyed feline left with his son in his arms.
- Wait! Where are you going? Do you have to go?
- Bye Dogman, see you saturday, take care. The kitten said goodbye as he was taken away against his will
- Bye Lil Petey...See you later Petey.... He said and then he too went to his doghouse once and for all. Tomorrow would also be a busy and important day, so he needed to get a good night's rest.
Once at home, when he was about to close his eyes and fall asleep, he began to feel a strange agitation inside him, his body began to tremble and shake, his limbs lengthened, sharp claws began to grow, his fangs also lengthened, his fur bristled, he felt the deep urge to leave his house and go to the nearest forest. When he reached the forest and fell prey to his instinct, he began to howl at the full moon. What had become of him? Why was this happening to him? That he didn't know yet but he would surely get to the bottom of it.
