Chapter Text
Diana was seated as she waited inside the League’s meeting room. Batman and Superman were already present, the Kryptonian looking subdued. Not unexpected considering what this meeting is about.
As the remaining Founders filed into the room Diana looked towards Captain Marvel. The other hero looked the same as he always does except that he had Ms Marvel’s satchel that held her magic tome attached to his waist, and he was wearing the armour/brace that Voltage wears on his leg. Why would he have them on his person.
Once the last person had arrived Batman began the meeting.
He activated a holo-screen and pulled up the image of a boy who looked around about fourteen. Several of the gathered heroes glanced towards Superman. The boy looked like he was related to the alien.
“A month ago, a group of young heroes broke into a Cadmus lab and ‘rescued’ a clone of Superman. We became aware of ‘Superboy’s’ existence two weeks ago. After extensive tests along with the aid of Martian Manhunter and Captain Marvel, Superboy has been cleared of any possible mental or magical triggers or failsafes.”
“So, what’s the meeting about?” Green Lantern asked the Dark Knight, “I doubt it’s just to tell us Supes has a kid.”
Diana levelled her gaze towards the Lantern, “Superman’s DNA was taken and used to create Superboy without his consent. Superman needs time to come to term with what happened. Having him raise Superboy would only cause resentment between the two.”
“Okay but he needs to live somewhere,” Flash commented, “Preferably with someone we can trust who can handle his powers.”
“I know a couple who can take him in,” Captain Marvel announced.
Diana looked towards the red-clad hero. Strange, the Captain’s eyes were usually brown but now they were blue. She blinks and they were brown again.
“Can they be trusted with Superboy?” Batman asks.
“Absolutely,” Marvel answered.
Batman stared at him.
“I will be holding my own investigation to determine if they’re suitable.”
Marvel’s eyes briefly flashed blue, “I understand.”
“If that’s all, we’ll move onto the next item on the agenda.”
After the meeting had adjourned Diana called out to Captain Marvel.
“Marvel, I can’t help but notice that your eyes flashed blue during the meeting, multiple times. Are you okay?”
“What?” Captain Marvel responded in confusion before realisation crossed his face, “Oh, that. That was Voltage.”
Diana gestured for him to continue explaining.
“So, you saw how I have Ms Marvel’s tome and Voltage’s leg-brace,” at the Amazon’s nod he continued, “Well when he heard that today’s meeting would involve Superboy’s living arrangement he insisted on coming and then Ms M decided she wanted to come as well.”
“And how do their tome and leg-brace factor into this?” she inquired.
Suddenly Marvel’s eyes turned blue, “We fused. Kinda. Normally when we do this Cap has the wheel, but Ms M and I could take over, we just don’t unless we need to. Or if it would be funny.”
“Voltage?” Diana inquired in an unsure voice. She could count on one and how many times she met the blue-clad hero so she could not be too sure if she was right.
Marvel, Voltage nodded.
“You’re sure that the couple you suggested can handle Superboy?”
“Absolutely,” he answered, “Honestly, it’s the safest place in Fawcett. And the three of us will set up protections and safeguards. So, there’s nothing to worry about.”
His eyes turned back to Marvel’s normal brown, “Anyway we should be heading back to Fawcett before a glitter bomb goes off. See ya Wondy.”
Captain Marvel made his way towards the zeta-tubes leaving the Amazon alone to think about what she had just learned. The Marvels can fuse, do their powers stack or multiply, how do they fuse. She shook the thoughts out of her head.
She began to make her way towards the Watchtower’s guest quarters. As she made her way into one of the rooms, she was unsurprised to see Robin was in there with Superboy.
“Hello Robin,” she greeted the Boy Wonder before turning towards Superboy, “Thought you might like to know what kind of living arrangements we’ve considered for you.”
Robin just glared at her prompting the Amazon to give him a fond smile.
“What kind of arrangement?” Superboy asked her.
“According to Captain Marvel there is a couple in Fawcett who might be willing to house you,” she answered, “Captain Marvel has also offered to help train you in using your powers. While there are some differences, he believes that your powers are similar enough for him to help.”
“Oh,” Superboy responded, “Is, is there anything I should know about him?”
“Captain Marvel is a cheerful person. I have personally only seen him express anger once,” Diana told him, “You have nothing to worry about.”
“Fawcett has two other heroes,” Robin told Superboy, “Ms Marvel who first appeared in the forties and Voltage who showed up in the mid-seventies. There was also Captain Marvel Junior, but he disappeared in the late sixties.”
Diana looked towards Robin, “Captain Marvel has assured me that Junior is fine and that he just retired from being a hero.”
“He probably retired Junior to ‘protect’ him,” Robin retorted.
Diana shrugged, “With everything Junior got caught up in you would think that Marvel would have been worried, yet he just said that Junior can handle it. So, I doubt that Junior retiring was because Marvel wanted him to be safe.”
“Um, do you know what the couple that Captain Marvel mentioned are like?” Superboy asked.
“He didn’t, but probably because he knew Batman would investigate them and tell us what he discovers,” Diana answered before looking at Superboy, “Which reminds me. We’re going to have to come up with a name for you. One that you can use when you’re not being Superboy. First thing we need to think about is what kind of name you want. How many syllables? What meaning should it have? Should it start with a vowel or consonant?”
