it was... surprisingly the 14 of february already.
it was... valentine's day...
last time kaveh remembered the date being was back in january! perhaps he had been too caught up with his useful hobbies of doing whatever he wanted, all cooped up in his room.
he really hadn't been outside much, despite his wantings to go. so, kaveh took this opportunity of a special day to get up and be free in nature and make social interaction! though, there was no way he'd want to go alone. there was a slight (but, in fact, a really high) likelihood he would potentially make a fool out of himself. he could name several, but that's too much effort.
kaveh's only option was grab his oh so dear roommate—haitham—for his own benefit. maybe haitham should get some sunlight too. He's been awfully pale lately, so he should definitely try and get some of the vitamin d!
kaveh rushed out his room with his clothes already changed in the matter of a less than an entire minute of picking out any good looking clothes he had in his closet. walking down the hallway of the shared apartment, he saw haitham sitting at the kitchen table, deeply immersed with the unnecessarily thick book he was currently reading. he wasn't sure at first whether haitham wore his hearing aids, but called out to see.
"haitham!" he exclaimed joyfully, though careful enough to not be too loud to scare the other. "can you hear me?"
haitham looked over to his right calmly, seeing kaveh standing in the hallway. he gives a simple nod as his response.
a big grin appears on kaveh's face as he appraoches the man at the table, placing his hands on his shoulder and leaning close. "you should definitely go out with me today instead of reading that awful book. it feels like it's been forever since i've been out, so i kind of wanted to drag out with me since i'd be quite lonely with you. you would probably be lonely without me too."
haitham furrows his brows at the suggestion being so sudden, but he really shouldn't be surprised. kaveh was always the one to be straightforward with his questions on whether he would like to tag along. a moment of silence passed before haitham eventually let out a sigh, placing a bookmark in between the pages before closing the book.
no words were needed for kaveh to know what haitham's decision was. sometimes it was good to be an influential nuisance to your roommate. maybe.
kaveh quickly tells haitham that he would be outside and patiently wait for him to quickly change.
several minutes go by before haitham finally comes out of the apartment, locking the door behind him. kaveh laughs at how easy he got haitham to come outside this time, when most times he'd always be begging on his knees like an absolute fool.
"say, i feel like having a quick lunch before we go on today." kaveh mentions as they make their way down the staircase and onto the pavement of the sidewalk. "anywhere you want to eat at?"
"...huh," haitham stops his train of other thoughts to think before deciding, "the puspa cafe."
"what, that place again? we went there last time we hung out! and the times previously." kaveh forms his lips into a straight line as haitham's option was awfully so basic. "but, alas, i wish not to put up a fight on a day like this. the food is good there, so i cannot complain."
they continue to walk, now in a silence that overtook the whole atmosphere around them. kaveh slowly looked at the people around them. most were couples who held hands and also held chocolates or bouquets of flowers. on the other hand, haitham cared not about the surroundings as he had popped off his hearing aids to reduce all of the unnecessary blabbering that appeared more often as they reached the bazaar.
because it was valentine's, the bazaar felt a bit more packed than usual. or has it always been like that? ahh, who cares. today is solely for the fun! no worries and no rush, or... at least that's what kaveh hoped.
as they make their way through the crowds to get to the wanted destination, they onto each other's wrists. just for the purpose of not losing each other, obviously!
though, something suddenly caught kaveh's eye! his eyes wandered off to the side as he saw a big board. what did it say to catch his immediate attention?

who wouldn't want to take a good little discount?
kaveh stops his walking while haitham followed from behind, wondering as to why kaveh had stopped amidst the crowd. he quickly manages to pull them both off onto the sides where not many people were standing and pulled out a notepad and a pen from within his bag. he began to write.
stay here. i just found a food vendor that is making masala cheese balls, sabz meat stew, padisarah pudding and whole ton of other stuff.
as soon as haitham was handed and read the notepad, kaveh was already gone to the food vendor by the time he looked up. he didn't know why kaveh would suddenly stop them and run up to some food vendor with the same food they could've already gotten at the puspa cafe.
the sign caught his attention due to its... largeness, but he felt like it really wasn't such an important thing to pay his attention for.
haitham watched the in silence as kaveh waited in line until he finally got in the front. his mouth moved a lot, along with some weird gestures, such as twirling, making kissy gestures with his hands... what the hell? kaveh even ended up pointing at him across the crowd. the woman working behind the stand saw to where he pointed and did a little wave to him, but he did not return such wave. it was quite infuriating to even have a guess at what kaveh was trying to do with that half-working brain of his.
soon enough, kaveh comes back to haitham, a smile on his face as he held the bag with their food inside. kaveh isn't the exact best with his sign language, but can manage several words for common phrases.

now.
haitham hummed in agreement, leading the way to a nearby table. as they sat down when reaching the table, haitham still held the notepad and pen, he took advantage and wrote a question for kaveh.
why did you suddenly go off? puspa cafe is already close by and we could have just gone there.
he turns the notepad around and slips the note across the table. kaveh looks at the written note. kaveh snatched the pen from haitham and wrote for... pretty long. in the end, when finished, he set the pen down and didn't bother giving the note to haitham as he opened his container with the freshly cooked marsala cheese balls covered in the creamy sauce. he quickly prays for his food before chowing down.
it irritated haitham just a small bit as kaveh practically ignored him just to start eating without him. what manners does this man have?? he lets out an annoyed sigh, taking the notepad back and read it word for word.
ever heard of discounts???? puspa cafe doesn't really do that type of stuff, and the food vendor i went to had a discount
a 40% discount for all couples ;p gotta make a good way to save money haitham so use it to your advantage
"...oh. you're awful." haitham grumbled under his breath in shock. he quickly ripped the paper out, crumbling it to shove in his pocket before he began to eat his own food too.
although... despite his utter disbelief, haitham wouldn't mind kaveh having his way to get couple discounts with him.
besides, money is money.
