Summary:

Levi wanted nothing else in the world as much as he wanted you.

Notes:

Happy Valentine’s Day~ ❤️

Title is from the song “Boyfriend” by Big Time Rush. The “stuttering” reminded me of my beloved Levi!

Work Text:

Levi wanted nothing else in the world as much as he wanted you.

Not merch. Not anime. Not games.

He wanted you, but…Was that even possible?

To this gross otaku—the demon barely making himself useful in the world anymore—loving someone as perfect as you was the most ridiculous thing he’d ever heard, and he’d heard Mammon speak.

Sure, Levi was clean and organized for the most part, and he had lots of free time to spend with a partner, but would he be a good boyfriend? He didn’t know how to touch anyone, let alone intimately, let alone under clothes! Was he supposed to kiss you the moment he confessed, or was he supposed to plan a special moment together? He wasn’t really the type to figure this kind of stuff out. Despite his hours of playing romance games, he just didn’t understand the real world.

How could he confess to you when he was such a mess?

But…

But it just…

…It slipped out!

He didn’t mean it! It was an accident!

You looked so cute trying to reach something on the top shelf of the kitchen cabinets, stretching your body so long that it looked inhuman. Your little hops to climb on the countertop made you look so adorable and desperate just for a serving dish that no one had used in centuries.

Without warning you, he came up behind you and popped into his demonic form, using his long tail to wrap around the dish’s handle and bring it down.

Your mouth opened with the most precious surprise, and it…

It slipped out.

“I love you,” he said, barely audible to anyone but himself.

But you heard him. You heard, because you always paid attention to him when he talked—unlike everyone else.

That was why he loved you so much that it hurt.

When what he said dawned on him, his entire body flushed scarlet and froze. He couldn’t run now that it was out. What was he, a total flake? He said it, and now he had to stand behind it.

…Well, actually, maybe it would be better for both of you if he ran away?

You probably couldn’t stand him. Disgusting freak, saying he loved you out of nowhere, expecting a response that rejected him so harshly that he’d never leave his room again.

Once his feet regained feeling, he turned on his heels and started toward the kitchen door to freedom and—

…And…

A soft hand on his sleeve tugged him back. He didn’t want to wrench away for fear of hurting someone he loved, so he followed the pull to turn around and face the consequences of his stupid actions.

“I-I…” Facing the floor, he searched for the right words. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”

You paused long enough that he expected to get slapped or punched for daring to admit his attraction to you. He kind of almost hoped you would do it just to smack some sense into him. It’d be the last time he’d ever feel you touch him for the rest of his life—probably the last time anyone at all would touch him, because he didn’t think he could ever get over you.

Then, you pulled his sleeve toward you to force him a little closer within hitting range.

But you didn’t hit him.

“What did you say?” you asked, voice almost as quiet as his.

He swallowed a dry tongue, then shot his face up to look you dead in the eyes.

“I love you!” he said firmly, though his body quivered and trembled in terror. “I really want to be your b-b-boyfriend! Please love me back!”

Silence.

It deafened him, or maybe that was just the pounding of his pulse in his eardrums that stopped him from hearing anything else.

Until you…

You…

You smiled, and you took his hands in yours, and you squeezed them strongly.

“I’d love that,” you said. “Be my boyfriend?”

“Boy-boyfriend?” he replied as though he wasn’t the first to have said the word. “Are you sure? You really…want me to be your…boyfriend?”

“I never really knew how to ask since you’re such a powerful demon, like if there was some sort of courting I needed to do.” A light sheen of sweat coated your forehead as you spoke. “So…Yeah, I’ve been wanting this…for a long time.”

Somehow, he felt his body turn even more crimson and damp.

But he couldn’t hold back the grin exploding over his cheeks.

Boyfriend.

He was…a boyfriend!

That easily? That easily!

It wasn’t even that hard to say it once it was out in the open, especially now that you reciprocated.

For the first time in ages, he felt a happiness unlike any other. The love of someone else pressing down on his demonic soul and his tail twitching back and forth behind him sent him spiraling into what amounted to a happy hop and squirm before he regained his senses.

“O-okay!” he said. “Then…Then I’ll do my best!”

You laughed, light and beautiful.

After a moment, every nerve in his body stood on end as a breeze seemed to cool him.

“So, um…now what do we do?” he asked shyly.

Licking your lips, you took a moment to think before nodding toward the stove. “You can, uh…help me make dinner? We can do it together. Just spend the next hour hanging out in the kitchen, you know?”

“Yeah.” He gave a lopsided smile. “Yeah, that sounds good.”

After all of the stress and panic, all it took was a horribly timed confession, and he was suddenly a boyfriend.

Even though you hadn’t done a single thing differently yet, he felt that things were entirely different. Nothing had changed, and yet, everything had changed.

He could die happy.

Well, at least, maybe after a kiss or two first, just to see what it was like to kiss you.

That would be like going back to Heaven itself, which he didn’t really mind in the slightest. It was okay because it was you.

All he really wanted was to be your boyfriend.
