Work Text:
You had been restless all day. The small box of handmade chocolates sat neatly wrapped on your desk, taunting you every time you glanced at it. It had taken you days to perfect the recipe, carefully tempering the chocolate, making sure the texture was just right—because this wasn’t just any Valentine’s gift. It was for Seto.
The thought alone made your heart race.
What if he thought it was childish? What if he didn’t even like sweets? What if he just gave you that blank, unreadable stare and made you regret every single second of your preparation?
You shook your head. No, you had to do this. You had to at least try.
Evening finally arrived, and as you made your way to Kaiba Corp, your nerves only grew. You gripped the chocolate box tightly in your hands, walking through the grand lobby with your heart pounding. When you reached his office, you hesitated for a long moment before finally knocking.
- Come in.
His voice was calm, clipped, and as composed as ever. Taking a deep breath, you pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Seto was at his desk, finishing up some last-minute work, but the moment he saw you, his expression softened—just slightly. He leaned back in his chair, setting his pen down.
- I…um…I was just…
You swallowed hard, willing yourself to not completely fall apart under his gaze.
- I made these for you.
You stepped forward and placed the box on his desk. The movement was quick, almost nervous, and you immediately regretted not preparing something cooler to say.
Seto eyed the box before looking at you.
- Chocolates?
- Handmade, you clarified, your voice barely above a whisper.
For a moment, he didn’t say anything. His fingers tapped against the desk before he finally reached out and picked up the box, turning it in his hands as if inspecting it.
- You made them?
His voice was quieter now, and there was a strange note in it—something you couldn't quite place. You nodded.
- Yeah. I wanted to give you something for Valentine’s Day. I… hope you like them.
There was a long pause. Then, finally, he sighed, shaking his head slightly.
- You’re ridiculous, he muttered, but when he looked up at you again, his ears were a little red.
- You don't have to eat them if you don't want to—
- I'm eating them.
His tone was defensive, as if you had personally challenged him. He set the box aside and stood up, looking at you with an unreadable expression.
- You worry too much.
You felt the warmth spread to your cheeks, but before you could say anything, Seto reached out and—very hesitantly—his fingers brushed your cheek, before quickly stepping back.
- Thanks.
Your heart did a somersault.
Later that night, when you finally arrived home, you noticed something strange. Your front door was surrounded by roses. Not just one bouquet, not even five—dozens. A sea of deep red petals greeted you, the scent overwhelming and intoxicating as you stepped closer in shock.
You fumbled for the nearest card, your hands shaking as you flipped it open.
"Don't think I didn't prepare something for you too. - S.K."
Your breath caught.
He had planned this all along.
Even before you had given him the chocolates, even before you had spent the entire day panicking—Seto had already decided to make this day special for you.
And maybe, just maybe, he had been just as nervous about it as you were.
A soft smile played at your lips as you pulled the nearest bouquet into your arms.
Idiot, you thought fondly.
