Work Text:
Hello! I know…I am sorry for not updating “Absolution” in a while. I got stuck >_<
While I was listening to music, “The last time” by Gary Lightbody and Taylor Swift started to play and I immediately thought of Heero and Relena. I do not own Gundam Wing or “The last time.”
I find myself at your door
Just like all those times before
I'm not sure how I got there
All roads, they lead me here
I imagine you are home
In your room, all alone
And you open your eyes into mine
And everything feels better
Heero was riding his motorcycle through Brussels after finishing his shift at Preventer. His mind was heavy with thoughts of Relena. To be more specific, the most recent argument they had. He was going to try to apologize, hoping Relena would forgive him. He reached the estate at the outskirts of the city, typed in his code at the front gate, and finished driving up the driveway. He walked up to the front door and knocked. Pagan answered the door with a knowing look in his eyes.
“Good evening, Master Yuy,” the butler greeted.
“Hn…Is Relena…”
“She is in her suite.”
“...thank you, Pagan.”
With that Heero made his way up the stairs to Relena’s room. The door was cracked open and he could see the light from her reading lamp shining from behind the door. Heero knocked on the door before opening it. He saw Relena look up from her comfortable reading chair, her hair a little disheveled from running her hands through it. She seemed surprised to see him this soon and her eyes changed from warm to annoyed.
And right before your eyes
I'm breaking
No past, no reasons why
Just you and me
Relena had tried not to let the last fight with Heero affect her work day. She attended her meetings with hardly any issues, but in the back of her mind she was thinking that she wanted to tell him off. She shook her head and tried to focus on the task at hand, writing an email to the Foreign Minister regarding the meetings she sat through.
Once done with the email, she looked at the clock and sighed. She wrapped up her email and called her driver to take her home. She finished packing up and headed out the door of her office. Of course everyone had left for the day and she found herself walking down the empty halls of the ESUN building. Once she reached the lobby, she straightened herself out and headed out the door. Her driver was waiting for her and opened the rear door of the provided SUV.
Once home, she headed straight for her rooms after asking Pagan to make some tea for her. She relaxed into her reading chair and turned on the lamp. Relena ran her hands through her hair a few times out of frustration. Heero was on her mind again.
There was a knock on her door. She was expecting Pagan to enter, but instead Heero burst into the room with his eyes staring straight into hers. She missed him, but then remembered why he had been on her mind and became annoyed.
They stared into each other’s eyes until Relena looked away.
“Heero, I was not expecting you.” She said, still looking away from him and out of her balcony doors. She wanted him to show up sooner rather than later, but Heero always knew when to show up. It wasn’t like she didn’t want him there, but she was still hurt.
This is the last time I'm asking you this
Put my name at the top of your list
This is the last time I'm asking you why
You break my heart in the blink of an eye, eye, eye
‘Dammit Heero…’ she thought.
She stood up and Heero was right there embracing her in a hug. His hold on her was strong and she just melted into the embrace. Heero leaned his head down and captured Relena’s lips with his own. She was about to let Heero lead her further into her rooms, but stopped dead in her tracks. She pulled away from Heero looking up with hurt in her eyes.
“Did you make a decision?”
“...Yes.”
“So, what did you decide, Heero?”
You find yourself at my door
Just like all those times before
You wear your best apology
But I was there to watch you leave
And all the times I let you in
Just for you to go again
Disappear when you come back
Everything is better
Heero looked over at the beautiful woman that Relena had become. Her hair was fanned out behind her on the pillow. He needed to tell her he was leaving. He hated having to do this to her. It was the middle of the night and they had just finished one of their late night love making sessions.
“Relena, I’m sorry” he whispered.
“Heero? Why are you apologizing?” she yawned.
“Relena, I have to go to space. I have to try and find answers about who I am…”
“Heero, that’s what you told me the last time you had to leave for an extended period of time. You promised you would have answers the last time.”
“Relena…”
“Heero, what do you want me to do? How long are you going to be gone this time?”
“I don’t -”
Relena’s eyes started to water, but she was trying to be strong and hold herself together.
“Relena, please don’t cry.”
“What do you expect? You are telling me you are leaving, again. We cannot keep doing whatever this is. I don’t know if I can keep waiting for you to find all your answers. Why don’t you let me help you? I can pull some strings and come with you to help-”
“No Relena, I have to do this alone.”
And right before your eyes
I'm aching
Run fast, nowhere to hide
Just you and me
Heero reached out to hold Relena, but she just pushed him away. Her tears finally fell from her beautiful eyes. She furiously tried to wipe her eyes dry. She finally looked Heero in the eyes. She was hurt. He had made her cry. Again. He felt right there and then that he never deserved her love for him. Could he let her in? What would she do once she finds out all of the things he had done in his past?”
“Heero, please think about this. I can help you, if you let me.”
“Relena, I can’t let you yet.”
“You can’t keep doing this. You come and spend time on Earth with me and then you abruptly have to leave again. Every time.”

She was right of course. He had hurt her countless times. The selfish part of him wanted to keep her close and wanted to let her come with him, but he knew it was not safe for her. His mission parameters required him to go alone. Dr. J had managed to transmit one last mission after his “death,” but he wasn’t about to tell her that.
The transmission had told him to head back up to X18999. There was information up there pertaining to his parents.
He felt sorry that he had to leave so soon. He really wanted to stay to make it up to her. She had warned him about him always leaving for long periods of time. She wouldn’t stop him, but she wasn’t happy.

Heero boarded the shuttle that was to take him to the colony. Since this was not officially Preventer business, he was to make his own accommodations. He promised Relena that this was the last time she would have to ask him to come back to her. He intended to keep that promise.
