Work Text:
When they get back to the inn and Kyoshi pushes past her to lock herself in the bedroom, Rangi does nothing to stop her and merely continues taking off her shoes. Next comes her armor, which she carries with her as she approaches the door.
Rangi simply waits for Kyoshi to be ready to open it. She often needs a bit of alone time to recover from extended periods of social interaction.
And a full day of negotiating with the lords and ladies of the Earth Kingdom because yes, you do need to feed your people, no they don’t get to starve just because they are orphans or poor, definitely counted as that, if not more.
After about ten minutes, the door creaks open, revealing a very tired looking Kyoshi in more comfortable clothes.
Rangi stands up, looking up at her with a sympathetic expression. “Tired, huh?”
Kyoshi nods, unable to speak. Rangi thinks nothing of it, as it also happens a lot of the time.
The taller girl steps back, wordlessly inviting Rangi in. She does, hanging up her armor and trading the rest of her clothes for a more comfortable set, then taking out her topknot and shaking out her inky hair.
She then turns around to see Kyoshi sitting on the bed, folding her long legs up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them, looking up at Rangi with a tired and forlorn expression.
The Firebender makes her way over, the mattress dipping as sits down and opens her arms. A wordless invitation.
Kyoshi accepts the offer, practically lunging into her girlfriend’s arms.
Rangi falls back into the bed with a small oof before settling and looking down at Kyoshi with a dopey grin loving smile.
As Kyoshi burrows into the crook of her neck, Rangi wraps one arm around the Avatar’s waist while the other begins running through her hair. Kyoshi lets out a small, content sigh as her nails gently scrape across her scalp.
Rangi carefully reaches down and pulls the blanket over them, then returns her arm to Kyoshi’s back. Pressing a gentle kiss to her hair, Rangi murmurs, “get some rest.”
And, as she slowly becomes more and more puddle-like, Kyoshi speaks for the first time since they returned home in a small voice. “…love you.”
“I love you, too, Kyoshi.”
