Brainrot

Summary:

Koro-Sensei has recently bought a new computer, but nobody knows what he's been using it for. It isn't until he makes a surprising display during Friday morning English class that everyone learns what 'research' he's been doing.

Work Text:

Koro-Sensei had recently bought himself a laptop, and he had been spending a lot of time browsing on it. Of course, rumors began circulating among the class quickly, but Sensei never allowed us near his computer, which only made him look guilty.

“I bet it’s porn”, I heard Ryoma say at lunch. “That freak’s been known to read those special magazines.

“Ew, Ryoma!” Kaede scolded. “Don’t accuse sensei of being a pervert! I’m sure it’s nothing bad.” Despite her denial, she also sounded slightly suspicious.

“Say what you want, but Ryoma may not be completely wrong. He has been known to like things of that sort.” Karma added.

Personally, I also couldn’t help my curiosity. It could just be something unrelated to our mission, but maybe his computer could contain something that would be worth adding to my notes… So, I made up my mind and decided to try looking through his computer.

I knew he liked chatting with students during lunch, so now would be the best opportunity. I quietly crept through the door to the building and snuck into the classroom. However, he had beaten me to it, which I honestly should’ve expected.

“Oh, Senesi! I uh...” I am many things, but a good liar is not one of them.

“Nagisa”, he started. I knew I was in for a lecture, but his face was still the same color, so at least he didn’t seem angry about it. “It’s quite rude to try and snoop through someone’s personal belongings, especially your teacher’s.”

“Y-Yes sir. I’m sorry…” I replied, looking down at the floor. “I was just curious...”

I heard him chuckle, those familiar green stripes appearing on his face, which meant he was about to tease me. “Yes, yes, I’m sure you are. After all, it’s natural for kids your age to be curious. Tell you what, I invite you and your classmates to try and find any personal information about me. Not that you’ll get very far, anyway.”

I nodded and went off to share his challenge with the rest of the class. What originally started as innocent curiosity quickly turned into a game of which one of us could get into his computer first. For a few days, we completely forgot the stress of our actual mission, and it was nice.

On Friday, we all filed into the classroom and took our seats as usual, waiting for Koro-Sensei to come back from whatever worldwide escapade he was on this morning. Around 5 minutes later, Koro-Sensei came in holding notecards. The entire class looked at each other, confused. This was nothing like what he usually brought into the classroom. Normally, he had some sort of snack or souvenir from whatever country he had visited, but this time, it was just normal flashcards.

“Alright class, settle down. Eyes on me” he started, “I’ve prepared a very special surprise for you all this Friday.”

Kaede looked over at me. I simply shrugged; nobody had a clue what he meant by “special surprise”.

Koro-sensei shuffled through his notecards before beginning the lesson. “So, today we will be studying an English story by Edgar Allen Poe. He is a very well renowned writer in western countries and known as the true…” he squinted at one of the notecards, “’goat’ of gothic writing.

Ryoma snorted from the back of the classroom, and Karma smirked. I had to admit, I was also tempted to let out a snicker.

Koro-Sensei continued, “This story is very…” he took another glance at a different notecard, “’skibidi’, so buckle up.”

This time, more of the class giggled. I still managed to keep a handle on my emotions.

After reading through the story as a class, Koro-Sensei called upon his notecards once more. “Poe ‘cooked’ with this one, didn’t he? This story is ‘fire’.” He spoke. He then assigned our classwork, “Now, I want to hear your opinions of this story. Write a paper and share your thoughts by either ‘glazing’ the narrator and agreeing with his actions; or dropping a ‘diss track’ on why the main character was wrong for what he did.”

That was the final straw, everyone broke out into laughter, even Karma and I. Nobody knew where he learned these slang terms, but it was hilarious hearing this supernatural, planet-destroying creature speak like a middle schooler.

We all tried to contain our snickers as we wrote our papers. It seemed like a lifetime of quiet giggles before lunchtime rolled around. Everyone was eating and laughing about his display during English. I decided to approach him and get answers.

“Koro-Sensei, where did you learn all those words? Why did you learn them?” I asked.

He simply set down his food, giving me his undivided attention as he answered. “I’ve heard kids in other classes talk that way, and I had no clue what any of it meant. At first, I just wanted to learn what it all meant, but after buying that computer and doing a little research…”

I couldn’t help but interrupt; “That’s what the computer was for?!”

He simply chuckled and answered, “Yes, that’s why I bought the computer. After doing so much research, I figured it’d be a waste not to put my knowledge to good use. Besides, I thought it would help me connect with my students.”

I felt a smile tug at my lips. Despite him planning on destroying the planet by graduation, he still put in all this effort just to get along with us. It was strange, but he was becoming my favorite teacher. No other teacher had bothered spending time or effort on us “rejects”. He was the first one to see us as worthy of teaching, and he was doing a damn good job at it so far too.
