At the Western Air Temple, a cry echoes through the ancient stone walls. “SOKKA!!!!”
Aang pauses in the middle of his earthbending practice and only barely manages to dodge when Toph takes advantage of his distraction to lob a boulder at him that’s twice the size of his head. “Was that Katara?”
”Sure was.”
”She sounds like she’s super upset about something. Do you think there’s something wrong?” He leaps on top of a nearby pillar, then stomps to send a wave of vibration through the stone, ideally a move which would have allowed him to end with pulling up some rocks and tossing Toph into the air, but she’s too good to fall for that.
Toph traps him in a casing of dirt for his trouble. “Nah.”
Aang blinks. “You sure? Sokka could be in some sort of trouble.”
Toph shakes her head. “Only trouble Snoozles is in is for not telling her he knew that Zuko was our soulmate a long time before she did.”
”…but I knew even longer than Sokka, and I never told her anything either!”
Toph snorts. “Yeah, and I knew he was one of our soulmates from the first time we met. It’s nothing to be upset about.” She tilts her head. “You know what I think?”
”What?”
Toph smirks. “I think Sweetness is just upset because she’s the only one who didn’t figure it out on her own.”
”Oh. Wait, how do you know all this-?”
”Oh, I overheard Sokka telling Suki about how he was worried how Katara would react to finding out how long he knew about Zuko, and I overheard Zuko talking to Katara about how if they were going to bond before the big day, they should probably do it sooner rather than later so they have time to recover from the experience. Since Zuko and Katara are both pretty hands-on, and neither of them likes to wait around for things once they’ve made up their minds, it only makes sense they’d activate their bond today.”
Aang raises an eyebrow. “You know something, Toph?”
”What?”
He grins. “You should be a detective!”
