Work Text:
The day.
It's the fucking day.
Maki’s birthday party.
Yuma’s already been thinking about what to give him ever since he got the invitation. He's the opposite of Maki, who knows everything about him; He doesn't know Maki that much.
But judging by how he looks, he thinks Maki would like accessories like him, too. So he decided to buy him a necklace and dangling earrings because he wore one at the school dance. Both in silver, of course.
As for the outfit, he has prepared some of his favorite combinations, but none of them match his liking today. He wears it, looks in the mirror, and changes it again for the nth time. It drives him crazy.
He actually had a lot of time, the party is at night, starts at about 10 PM, and goes to 1 AM the next day; it's gonna pass to Maki’s birthday.
And now it's just 7 PM– no, it's not a lot when he still doesn't have anything done except the gift he wrapped himself. He ruffles his hair but then stops after he remembers he just got his hair done from the salon. No, he's not gonna spend that money for nothing. He fixed his hair again. That's close.
The party’s being held in his apartment, it's a small party, he said. The guest is just someone close to him, but still. He has to impress the party’s host.
He's up to something quite simple but not plain, something that can make Maki can't take his eyes off him– okay, that sounds so corny, whatever. But one thing for sure: he wants to tease Maki for it.
He searches for other clothes in his wardrobe, there must be something eye-catching to him. He suddenly remembers something, he takes a shirt that he almost forgot he had. It's a cropped shirt, so cropped that it barely covers his belly. And it has ‘hardcore 4 life’ written on it, somewhat a meh for him. That's why he never wears it.
But for today, he thought about wearing it. Should I wear it?
He tried it first and looked in the mirror, Cunty. He likes it. But again, it's so cropped that’d be too revealing. He then grabs an outer to cover it up, that's better. He changes his pants to black jeans, a kinda basic thing, but works well with the entire fit. Everything's good now.
He moves to the next step, makeup. He put on some light makeup, a little bit of blush, and a must-thing: lippies. Almost done.
And for the last step is accessories. This step is pretty easy for him, he picks a pearl necklace and wears the ring Maki gave him. For the earrings, he always wears them right after that night. Alright, it's perfect.
He looks at his clock, he can't believe it's 8.30 PM already. There's still half an hour left until Maki picks him up. Yeah, Maki initiated picking him up earlier than anyone. He said he wants some time just for the two of us, I get what he wants.
It's kinda funny if he thinks about his relationship with Maki now– whatever it is. Before, it was just Maki who was obsessed with him, and Yuma never ever thought about getting along with him. But with only one night, everything’s changed.
He eventually gets closer to him– more like attached. After that night, Maki—like he used to—always bothers him, but he never feels bothered at all. He grows to like it.
He checks his phone, and Maki says he's on his way now. Oh, he better be so ready. He sprays some perfume on him and takes a look at himself in the mirror once again, making sure everything looks okay. It's all pretty good.
Not so long after that, he heard a knock at the front door. He grabs his bag and the gift then rushes to it. He opens the door, it's Maki, obviously. But for god's sake, he looks so– I can't even describe that. Geez.
Maki, on the other side, is the same as him. He scans him from head to toe– that's too much. But then he shook it off.
“Um, hi? Are you ready?”
Yuma couldn't even say a thing, so he just nodded to it.
—
“Make yourself at home.”
Sure. Yuma’s already at Maki’s apartment now. Maki brings him to take a look around his room. It's not so big yet not small either, fit for one person or more– it only has one bedroom tho. Overall, it looks neat and tidy, guess he's a clean freak.
For the party decor, it's not much like a party. He didn't even decorate anything, only a bunch of appetizers and beverages on the table in the living room. Well, it is a small party.
“Come here.” Maki tapped his side and gestured Yuma to sit beside him.
“So, you live here alone?”
“Yup, for college thingy.”
“Then why don't you decorate something?” The question slipped from his mouth. Don't blame him.
Maki rubbed the back of his neck, “I don't have time for that.” He grins.
“But you have time for printing an invitation?”
“Actually… It's just for you…”
His jaw dropped, “Wha– seriously?”
“Yeah… It's kinda embarrassing to say that to you, I should've stayed silent.” He avoided Yuma’s eyes. Oh, this kid.
“I liked it tho, how sweet of you. Anyways, here.” He grabbed Maki’s hand and handed him the gift he'd been holding for so long.
“Oh? Thank you, can I open it now?”
“Sure, just open it.”
He opens it and then smiles so wide. He likes it, I know it.
“I love it so much, thank you, Yuma.” He began to wear it, even changing his previous earrings to what Yuma gave him. That's so cute.
“Can you help me with the necklace?” He handed the necklace to him. What's with him being a cutie today?
He takes the necklace, “Turn around.”
“Can't I just face you? Wouldn't that be better?” He giggles. Seriously. What's wrong with him?
Yuma shakes his head but still leans closer to put the necklace on to him. His face gets so close to the crook of Maki’s neck, and he– smells so good. God.
“There.” He pulls with flushed cheeks.
“Thanks! How does it look?” Perfect. The necklace hung around his neck perfectly. Don't know if it's because of the necklace or the neck.
“Good.” It suits you so well.
He didn't know why he started to touch it– the necklace that right touched Maki’s collarbone too. It does something to him, he swears he's not insane.
“What are you doing, hm?” Maki suddenly leaned in, and that cocky smile came back again. Ugh.
“Shut up.” Yuma stole a kiss and then pushed him away.
He chuckles, “I see you wear what I give you, too, guess I have a great job choosing what suits you.” Bet on that. He's right.
He pulls Maki again by the neck, “Hate to admit that you're right.” He kissed him longer this time.
Maki giggles in between kisses and pulls him closer by his waist, gently caressing it. A single moan let out of his mouth knowing Maki touched his bare skin.
He lifts Yuma up to his lap—it's like a habit he thinks—because of their height difference. He likes it.
They took a breather and looked at each other with smiles on their faces.
“What's with the sudden kiss?” He asks.
“What? I thought you liked it.”
“I liked it, but it's too sudden.” He laughs. Whatever.
Yuma just shrugs at it, he leans and puts his head on Maki’s shoulder. Smelling his scent on his neck. Trails his nose on it.
Maki? He just let that happen. He even looks up to give him more space. A green light for him.
His hands can't stay still, one hand rubbing Maki’s collarbone and the other one playing with the necklace.
He stops when Maki cups his face and pulls him for another kiss, deeper than ever. He felt dizzy.
They flinched and broke the kiss when they heard a knock on the front door, must be the others.
He quickly gets off Maki’s lap and cleans up the mess– their appearance.
“I’ll go open it.” He said awkwardly then walked out.
Yuma hums, he grabs one of the drinks in front of him to hide the feeling of it. Who the fuck disturbs them?
“Oh? You're already here.” It’s Jo. Why is he always sticking his nose—no hate intended—in me and Maki's business? Damn.
But today he's with Harua and Taki– Yuma’s other friends. The three are always glued to each other, he didn't know why Jo was alone at the toilet that day. It'd be weird if the three of them were stuck in one toilet, though.
Jo sits beside him, and the two are on another sofa across them. While Maki went to the kitchen for something.
“Hey, did we bother you two? Should we go back?” He whispers. What the hell.
Yuma looked at him flat, he didn't respond to it. Better not to.
“I'm curious, since when did you and Maki get along really well?” Taki, on the other side, asked something– interesting.
“I don't know, that just happened.” Because that's the real answer, he can't just say because he kissed him and he tasted good– that'd be weird.
“Hmm, but I see you guys danced together at the school dance? Did you already get along with him that day?” Harua joined in. What's with all the questions being thrown at him now, is it weird that he finally gets along with Maki? It's not like they're in each other's throats or something.
“After that.” He still answers it.
“It's when you help Jo?” He asks again. How did he know?
Yuma turns to Jo right away, “You tell them about it?” He whispers while gritting his teeth.
“No! I– I just say that you and Maki just happened to be there and helped me out. That's it.” Jo panicked. Thank god.
He turns to Harua, “Um yeah? Around that time.” Harua and Taki just nodded to it.
“What are y'all talking about? Seems fun.” Maki finally got back. It's not fun.
“Jo! We're talking about Jo. So, how did you get locked up in the toilet that day, Jo?” Yuma is trying to cover it up. It's not nice to say such things about the owner while in his house—they already did—glad the others just play along with it.
Jo said that he didn't know that the toilet cubicle he was in already had a sign it was broken. The sign fell and he didn't see it. When he's done, he tries to open it but he can't. He tries to scream for help, too, but no one is there. Did he really scream, though?
Sadly he can't ask the others for help because his phone died, so he just sits there waiting for other people to come to the toilet. But there's none for the past hour until Yuma and Maki came.
So, that's his storytelling, kinda sad because he missed the event by wasting it at the toilet waiting for help. But he said it was okay, and that's it.
Later on, Maki’s other friends start to come. Yuma couldn't really tell who they were. There were other famous kids from their schools that he knew, but the rest, he didn't. One thing for sure: he knows Maki's friends with everyone.
Wait– there's Nicholas too? He came with the tall dude he kissed during the school dance. I'm sick.
Alright, move on from that. Let's just focus on the birthday boy.
The party went well, like a party in general. He's chatting with everyone– he thinks. Nicholas as well. But the funny thing is he didn't get a chance to talk with Maki. He's busy with everyone. There are moments when they make eye contact with each other– but it ends just like that. What was it?
Jo suddenly comes up to him, “Did you really just get along with Maki that day? How about the kiss then? Do you get along with him because of that?” How. Did. He. Know.
“Seriously, do you have to ask about that? You've heard everything. I told you to act like nothing happened that day.”
He shrugs, “Sorry, just wonder because it's all too sudden. And I was fighting myself to stay silent that day, y'all noisy as hell.”
“Well, sorry about that. And for the question, yes. Don't tell anyone any of it.” He points at Jo.
He laughs, “Sure, I won't tell anyone.”
—
It's already past 1 AM. Everyone leaves one by one as the party’s over. But Yuma stays, Maki told him to. I wonder why.
“We’re off, do you wanna join us?” Harua asks him. They're the last to leave.
“Uh– thank you, but I have something to talk about with Maki, y’all can go ahead.” In fact, he doesn't know why Maki told him to stay. He glanced at Maki who just nodded to it.
“Okay then, goodbye.” They wave to him.
But then Jo comes closer to him and whispers, “Hey, good luck with him.” He chuckles. What the hell is it supposed to mean?
Now it's just the two of them.
Maki stands, “Finally,” He handed his hand. “How about another dance?” He smiles. Ah.
Yuma immediately smiles, “I'd like that.”
They danced without music– for slow dancing. Turns out they didn't even need music for it. Just the two of them, everything works.
He can look at Maki’s eyes now, there's no awkwardness between them. But sometimes, he still looks at Maki’s chest until Maki lifts his chin up and says, “Focus on me first.” then chuckles. Sorry, can't help that.
Maki pulls his waist closer as he leans to put his head on Maki’s chest. He can hear his heart beating faster– just like his.
“I never thought we would be this close.” Who would have thought of that? Even the others are wondering about the same thing.
“Me neither.” He looks up to see Maki who already looks at him with a big smile.
“I really love you, Yuma.” He leans to kiss him.
Yuma can't answer that, don't know if it's because Maki’s already kissing him or he's still unsure.
No one knows.
And for whatever their relationship now,
no one has to know.
