Jungkook stares at that last message for what seems like eternity. The subscriber you are trying to reach has blocked incoming text messages from this number. Taehyung blocked him? Taehyung really told him they need to break up, then blocked him?
Jungkook isn’t really sure what he should be thinking or feeling right now—he knows he feels angry and hurt and betrayed. He just poured his heart out to Taehyung—told him he loves him—and this is how Taehyung responds? By dumping him and blocking him out of the blue?
What even brought this on? Jungkook’s so confused. Taehyung has never given him any signs that he’s wanted to break up before. He’s always been so doting, loving, and attuned to Jungkook and his needs. Has he maybe felt neglected in some way by Jungkook? Has Jungkook been foregoing his own duties as Taehyung’s boyfriend, focused only on himself and his own needs? Could Jungkook could’ve done more to make Taehyung feel seen, heard, understood in their relationship?
Jungkook has always thought he’s done a good job at that, and Taehyung has never said anything to him to indicate otherwise. It’s not like they’ve never communicated before. He and Tae have always communicated about everything—and very healthily, too.
So what is happening now?
All of this bounces around inside of Jungkook’s brain, and his eyes prickle with the beginning of tears. It’s currently three o’clock in the morning for him, and Taehyung is on the other side of the world filming a music video.
Things were perfectly fine the last time they spoke, which was quite literally about ten hours ago. Taehyung had told Jungkook he’d call him when he was done filming for the night, and he’d told Jungkook to make sure he ate well at dinner and took care of himself before bed.
Jungkook had wished Taehyung a smooth filming, and the two had shared smooching sounds, both of them kissing their phone screens to simulate kissing each other. And then they’d hung up, and Jungkook had done as he was told. He’d eaten a big dinner, taken a long, hot, steamy shower and pampered himself, and had done an extended routine of his typical skincare. Then he’d crawled into bed and had decided he’d watch a few rom-coms before he fell asleep.
That’s how he ended up texting Taehyung and spilling his heart out to him, declaring his love for him. Watching the rom-coms had made Jungkook feel sappy, and he’d started thinking about Taehyung—and how lucky he is that he’d met him, that they’d matched on Tinder a year ago, that he’d sent that fateful Ok fine, I’ll be your gf message, that Taehyung had not been a bot after all.
So he’d opened his texts with Taehyung, and he’d told him all of that. He told him he was glad they’d met. He told him he was glad he’d managed to snag Taehyung as his. He told him he was grateful was Taehyung was his. He told him being with Tae has made his life better. He told him he loves him.
And then Taehyung responded.
And not in the way Jungkook had hoped.
No, Taehyung hadn’t responded with an I love you, too, or anything like that.
He’d responded by telling Jungkook they needed to break up.
He’d responded by blocking Jungkook.
There’s only ever been one person that Jungkook has ever truly fallen in love with. There’s only ever been one person Jungkook has ever felt safe enough to feel like he could fall in love with them.
Kim Taehyung.
And Kim Taehyung has just ripped Jungkook’s heart out of his chest and stomped on it—all with one text message and a single action.
