Sweet Tooth

Summary:

Catherine takes Jackson in search of cake

Work Text:

“For fuck’s sake, Catherine,” Jackson complained wheezily, “You made me walk five blocks to get to this place because its got the absolute best chocolate cake in the city, and it’s closed! Could you not have checked before we left your flat?”

“And how on earth could I have known that,” she peered closely at the sign on the door, “Their first grandchild is born, and they’ll be celebrating for the rest of the week.’ It’s not like I’m clairvoyant.”

“Guess we’ll just have to go back to yours and go with Plan B for an afternoon snack,” he leered at her.

She bit her bottom lip and lowered her eyelashes. To be fair, she wasn’t completely opposed to that but, “I really did have my heart set on something sweet.”

Damnit. When she gave him that look, he’d run through a fucking wall for her. He sighed, “So the corner shop and Jaffa cakes then?”

“Actually, there’s another shop, not quite as good, but they make an apple cake with just a dusting of caster sugar, and it’s” she lifted her shoulders slightly and smiled. “Delicious. It’s only six blocks.”

“Six blocks!”

The smile started to fade.

“Fine. Six blocks. Apple cake. Fancy sugar. Let’s go. Maybe we could get a cab, though?” He asked hopefully.

“Firstly, it’s only six blocks. Secondly, after your little joy ride and the smashed up cab, I don’t think anyone would stop for you.”

“They’d stop for you.”

“And that went so well last time,” she said flatly giving him a stern look.

“He was staring at your tits! What was I supposed to do?”

“Keep your hands to yourself until we got home. I’m not sure I’ll ever want to ride in a cab again after that.”

“Fine, we’ll walk,” he said and started down the sidewalk.

“Um, no, it’s in that direction.” She pointed in the direction of her flat, the direction they’d just come.

He narrowed his eyes at her. Something was definitely up. Then, she turned quickly, and her breasts bounced in just that way. He followed her eagerly and was back at her side in a moment, her arm brushing his sleeve lightly from time to time.

They walked past her flat and then another block. There was no cake shop in sight. He began to suspect the truth.

“You meant that this apple cake was six blocks from the other shop, didn’t you?”

She looked at him from the corner of her eye, face carefully neutral. “No, I meant it’s only six blocks from my flat. In this direction.”

“For fuck’s sake,” he muttered under his breath. He had a good idea to just turn back and let her get her own cake. Then, she slipped her hand through his elbow, squeezed his arm tight to her chest, and smiled happily at him.

“Thank you for indulging my sweet tooth.”

“Sweet tooth my arse,” he growled, but smiled back. “At least tell me this one’s not going to be closed because they’re having surgery on their bunions.”

“Oh no, it will definitely be open. I called to check.”

“Too bad you didn’t call to check the other place. You had your heart set on chocolate cake.”

She shrugged, “We can have chocolate cake next weekend when I take the baby present by.”

“Two miles. You’re going to have made me walk two miles. This better be fucking good apple cake.”

“It will be,” she assured him, “And when we get home, we can indulge your sweet tooth with Plan B.”

“Damn right,” he put his arm around her and pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her temple.

“After we shower.”

He scowled.

“Together.”
