Work Text:

soobin remembers the day he first saw yeonjun. he had always found himself drawn to him. the older male had both a personality and face that captured everyone’s attention.

from the minute yeonjun had walked into class in the middle of the semester and introduced himself as a new student from america soobin was hooked. yeonjun captured his attention and he never lost it.

soobin admired yeonjun from afar, stealing discrete glances at the other whenever he was awarded the opportunity. although, discrete may not have been the right word considering how things unfolded.

he remembers the first time yeonjun spoke to him. soobin had been (what he thought was) sneakily looking at yeonjun. that is until he made eye contact with the aforementioned male and immediately stuck his head into his book out of pure embarrassment. a minute later soobin felt a tap on his head, he cursed himself as he looked up and once again made eye contact with yeonjun.

“you’re always looking at me” the blonde male said, glancing down at soobin. soobin felt his face grow hot, he thought about denying it; telling the other male that he was full of himself and imagining things, but being caught red-handed there wasn’t much for him to do. shyly rubbing his hand on the back of his neck soobin decided his best response was to simply say “yeah sorry about that.”

yeonjun laughed, reaching down to ruffle soobin’s hair, “don’t be, it’s honestly cute.”

from that day on, yeonjun talking to soobin become a common occurrence, the two had managed to form a genuine friendship. their families and classmates often joked that if you saw one of them you saw the other.

one night they sat in soobin’s bedroom, the aforementioned male staring openly at yeonjun as he always did. “you’re staring again.” yeonjun called from where he was sprawled out on soobin’s bed. “you always say it’s cute” came soobin’s reply, because that was the truth.

“you’re always cute” yeonjun answered, glancing down to where soobin laid on the floor, watching as soobin’s cheeks flushed the same shade of red they always did when yeonjun complimented him. a giggle left yeonjun’s lips as he slid off of the bed to instead lay down beside soobin.

“i don’t know why you always get so shy when i compliment you, it’s all stuff i’ve told you a million times.” yeonjun says, brushing soobin’s black hair out of his eyes.

“i don’t know why you always point out my staring, it’s something i’ve done a million times” soobin grumbled out in reply, lightly pushing yeonjun’s hand away and pouting.

the two fell into a comfortable silence, simply laying there and enjoying the comfort of the other. “soobin?” yeonjun called, rolling onto his side and propping himself up on his elbow to properly look at the younger.

“hmm?” soobin lazily replied, following yeonjun’s actions and rolling to his side. “i hope that you stare at me forever.” yeonjun said, before leaning in and gently pressing a kiss on soobin’s lips.

soobin’s eyes were practically bulging out of his head in disbelief. “hey! not like that” yeonjun scolded, before the two fell into a comfortable silence yet again.

from then on soobin knew that he would stare at yeonjun forever, that he would stay by the other male’s side until the end of the world.

yeonjun never officially asked soobin to be his boyfriend. soobin never asked yeonjun either. but they didn’t need to. they both knew that they were together, and that they would be forever.

well, at least soobin always thought he and yeonjun would be together forever.

he had everything all planned out. they’d graduate high school, go to the same college, establish themselves in their career fields, get married, adopt children, grow old, and die together the notebook style.

yeonjun breaking up with soobin on a random wednesday night was never a part of the plan.

it was a mere few months after their first kiss, and the two males were in reversed positions; soobin laying on the bed while yeonjun found himself on the floor. one thing stayed the same though; soobin’s eyes were glued to yeonjun.

“you’re staring.” yeonjun pointed out.

“you think it’s cute.” soobin replied, cheekily smiling

“i think you should stop” is not the response soobin expected. he found himself sitting up, “what?” he asked, confused by the serious tone yeonjun had.

“you look at me like i’m your whole world.” yeonjun said, mirroring soobin and sitting up.

“you are.” soobin replied easily, continuing to glance at yeonjun.

“i shouldn’t be” yeonjun started, standing up before continuing “i think it’s best if we stop hanging out so much. the adoration in your eyes makes things hard for me.”

soobin was always staring at yeonjun, but the view of yeonjun’s back as he walked away from him was something he never thought he’d have to see.

despite the break up, soobin’s eyes never left yeonjun.

he watched as yeonjun answered questions during class. he watched as yeonjun ate with his friends at lunch. he watched, especially pained, as yeonjun danced with beomgyu at prom. he watched as yeonjun walked across the stage at graduation.

he watched yeonjun’s instagram stories, pain gripping his heart as he saw the other male post about his flight back to america.

soobin continued to watch yeonjun’s life through his social media, he would look at yeonjun forever; even if it wasn’t in the way he had hoped.
