Work Text:
Ken’s shift wasn’t until 8, so he had all the time in the world to do whatever he wanted. Typically his routine consisted of breakfast, working out, taking a long nap, and getting the occasional cup of tea or bowl of ramen. But today felt different.
Ken strolled around the village, spotting Moca and Chi walking together to the dock, their voices loud enough to be heard from far away. They were arguing about something, not that he cared.
He spotted Paige near the edge of the woods wearing a pair of gloves while she picked up what seemed to be pinecones and sticks. Must be for another project, Ken thought.
It wasn’t long until he spotted Tsuki’s farm, the smell of fertilizer wafting into his nostrils. Although, he didn’t see the rabbit at first glance. Looking around for anyone who could be watching, Ken slipped through the gates and entered. It was possible that Tsuki wasn’t farming right now and in the comfort of his home, but something told Ken that he wasn’t.
Instead, Ken heard huffing from around the back, further from the shed and to the edge of the farm where the backgate opened to a mass of rough land that wasn’t particularly ideal for farming.
“Hello?” Ken said, looking around for the distinct red scarf that the rabbit donned all the time.
“Ken? Over here!” Ken turned his heat to see Tsuki. He was sweating as if he had just finished a full day’s work of farming. Notably, though, was that he wasn’t wearing his iconic red scarf he was just searching for.
It shouldn’t have been so notable, in all honesty. He shouldn’t have been so… affected by its absence. But for some reason, seeing Tsuki without it, made something inside him bubble up. What the hell.
“What ‘re you doin’ back here?”
Tsuki held up a jump rope and smiled. “I’ve been trying to work out more, so I’ve gotten into jumping rope. I’m not that good, but I’m working on it.”
Ken swallowed. The thought of Tsuki working out was making him feel something. He tried to push it down, but it continued to persist, clouding his mind with images of Tsuki. Fuck, did he have a workout kink or something?
Ken cringed at the thought of a workout kink, but didn’t think much of it when he looked over to Tsuki. “Do you need a workout buddy?”
Why did I say that? Ken cringed again, this time mentally berating himself at the spontaneous comment. Why did he have to instinctually offer? God, Tsuki made him do the stupidest things.
Tsuki smiled, but shook his head (to Ken’s relief). “Nah, I’m good. Thanks for the offer, though. What do you do to stay in shape? You’re so built, dude, I’m a little jealous.”
Ken flushed, turning his head as to not alert Tsuki of the sudden heat that rushed to his cheeks. “Thanks..”
“No really! I know we joke about touching your biceps and whatever, but your arms are seriously impressive.”
Ken blushed harder, having the sudden urge to take off his leather jacket. Since when did it get so hot out here?
Hearing Tsuki compliment him seemed to release butterflies in his stomach. Especially when Tsuki had, admittedly, some of the nicest arms he’s ever seen. While it didn’t seem that he was aware, farming was doing some serious business on his biceps. They were toned, not bulky like his, but still impressive and interestingly attractive.
“Would you like to go on morning runs with me? I go from time to time and, er, if you’d like, you can join in if you’re interested,” Ken said, rubbing his nape.
Tsuki blinked, looking like he was blanking. Ken was about to voice his concern when he heard him chuckle. “Sure, man! When should we start?”
Ken’s heart skipped a beat. He wasn’t expecting a yes, let alone an enthusiastic one. The fact that he got this far was mind boggling.
“‘You free on Thursday?”
“Yeah, I can go Thursday,” Tsuki said. He smiled softly, a light blush spreading across his fur. “It’s a date, then.”
Ken was half-sure that his brain short-circuited when the word “date” left Tsuki’s mouth, but he somehow managed to nod stiffly and cough. “Ye-Yeah. A date. Yep.”
“Right!” Tsuki tossed his jump rope over to the shed. “I’ll see you then.”
As Tsuki began to walk back to his house, Ken couldn’t help but laugh to himself.
What a day.
