Chapter Text
Vamola trudged down the path that lead out of the apartment block, forming a plan. It’s about time to move on from this place, she thought. There weren't many people living in it, so it was alright to spend a few nights in, but she had a mission, after all.
Of the men who lived in the block, none of them were strong enough for her to marry; Vamola was pretty sure she could beat any of them in a fight. As for how kind they were, she hadn't actually been able to gage that factor, because she had yet to reveal her presence to anyone and get to know them- at least, not on purpose. That was the other reason Vamola needed to leave.
A couple days ago, she'd been walking down this same hallway, towards the short tunnel where the building opened up onto the road, when she encountered a group of teenage girls around her age. They suddenly shrieked, pointing at her and chattering exitedly in their language. Vamola was sure that her suit's Hidden Mode was still on, but they seemed able to see something, at the very least, because they had pointed those little glass squares that Earthlings always seemed to have on hand at her. Vamola had panicked and run away, because what if they were scanning devices, and they could see right through her suit’s invisibility?
It had only been a couple of days since then, but the number of teens hanging out near the entrance of the block, presumably trying to find her, had only increased. In fact, Vamola realized with dismay, there were two new people standing in the entrance at this very moment! A boy with a clear glass device over his eyes, and a girl with pretty green disks hanging from her ears. They weren't directly facing her, though, and seemed to be intently discussing something. Perhaps if she hugged the wall behind them, and squeezed very slowly past them…
**KLANG!**
The sound of metal rang out behind her. Vamola whipped her head around just in time to see another guy come out from behind the corner, just a few feet away. He called something out to the first two Earthlings and began to walk towards them- straight into her!
Vamola, caught by surprise, stopped him from colliding with her by picking him up from under the shoulders.
Hm. Now what? I didn't think this through.
He was surprisingly easy to lift with the added strength of her suit, though.
I know! I can throw him at them and run past, she thought triumphantly. Vamola turned and pitched the boy towards the other teens, planning to use him as a distraction so she could run away.
Her plan backfired spectacularly. The boy with glass over his eyes suddenly transformed. his hair changed from jet-black to white, flowing with streaks of red. His clothes were suddenly torn and tattered, and a creepy mask with huge teeth materialized over his jaw. Vamola stared, momentarily forgetting that she was supposed to be running, but by the time she started it was too late.
He launched towards her with startling speed as the girl thrust out her hands and sent strange beams of energy towards her. Vamola’s suit's scanner lit the beams up in the shape of enormous green hands and enabled her to dodge them, but she was too slow to evade the boy, who leapt onto her and grabbed the sides of her head. Vamola retaliated with a flurry of punches, throwing him off.
He landed back next to the girl, shouting something decisive to her. Vamola weighed her options. Keep trying to push past, or hide? She chose the second option. Run!
