Work Text:

“Mommy,” Jax whined, “Raggy? Ma…”

Jax whimpered, curled up in his bed, he clutched his stomach, as his stomach hurt, of course his stomach hurt!

He kicked his legs, whining into his pillow, he wanted his mom , he tried to grab his stuffed animal, causing it to fall to the floor, he wanted his mom, he fought back a scream, sitting himself up before falling over, he wanted his mom—

A knock comes from Jax’s bedroom door, he sniffles, letting out a muffled, “Come in.”

Ragatha opens the door, her demeanor changing  once she saw the stuffed animal on the ground — as well as Jax’s fussy self, who was now crossing his arms in the corner.

“Oh… hey, buddy,” Ragatha whispered, walking over and kneeling next to his bed. “Are you… okay?”

Jax could feel the tears stinging his eyes, threatening to pour and ruin his face, his lip quivered — he wanted his mom.

“My tummy really hurts, Mama,” Jax said, sniffling a bit.

Ragatha, although she appreciated the nickname, it also brought her a sense of dread, she bit her lip, he hadn’t called her that since…

“Mommy, sick, tummy,” Jax said, tugging at Ragatha’s hair, gently. He was never gentle.

“I know honey, Mama’s gonna bring you something, alright? How do crackers and soup sound… hm?”

Jax seemed to perk up… just a bit, Ragatha nodded and stood up, Jax began holding his stomach again, “Raggy?”

Ragatha flinched, turning around, “Yeah, bun?”

Jax had tried to stay strong, his heart pounding against his chest, fighting against the thoughts that plagued his mind — he watched as his caregiver placed her gentle hands on his, he felt even sicker now.

“Mama!” Jax cried, launching himself towards Ragatha, gripping the back of her dress tightly. Ragatha was still, a bit stunned, honestly. She rubbed his back, ever so carefully, then beginning to hum, doing her best to try to calm the distressed rabbit.

“You—you can’t leave Mama,” Jax blubbered, tears covering his face, as well as Ragatha’s sleeve.

Ragatha felt horrible, of course, but part of her wanted to smile, just a little, out of pride for him. But now wasn’t the time.

Jax tugged her dress again, whining, Ragatha sighed and picked him up, “How about this, I’ll carry you with me, we’ll make you a meal, then, I’ll make you a bottle to help you sleep… sound good?”

Jax’s gaze shifted to the floor, leaning against Ragatha as he tried to make a decision.

“Well?”

“Hmph… okay,” Jax whispered, “I go ‘cause Mama go.”

Ragatha smiled, chuckling softly, “Alright, hop up.”

Jax nodded excitedly, jumping up and snuggling into Ragatha’s hold. Ragatha smiled, carrying him into the kitchen.

Jax had his mom now! Or a version of her, at least.
